It won't be 'The Hundred' if they make it a T20 competition

You could still call it the Hundred now as that’s what it’s known as.

Would make very little sense to keep it called the Hundred if its no longer 100 balls per innings. The people investing aren't going to be remotely arsed about what it's called now, it's just a gateway to a franchise T20 league over here

They'll need to get the Indian players in to stand a chance of it taking off outside the UK. They are hindered in the UK by city allegiances. A Manchester team is a hard sell in Liverpool, a Nottingham team a hard sell in Leicester and Derby etc.

With a bit of luck the 12 (inc Yorks) who haven't got a stake will make a fist of marketing the Blast so well with the money that it canabalises any chance of the domestic audience of the Hundred growing.

The investors are thinking globally. If you get top Indian players that immediately gives you a bigger global audience and expanded media rights. They will aim to syphon off the TV rights from the current deal in a few years.

I would say it will end up existing as a completely separate entity to the county game.

County need to invest in facilities that will make them sustainable down the line with non-cricket income. Because the money they will be getting elsewhere will go down. Less form ECB, less sponsorship, less from the gate and agents will be asking for more. I do hope it doesn't get wasted on increased salaries all round.

Anyone had their membership sent out yet? Was suppose to have received in January. Infact it wasn't even stated whether it was going to be a card or phone upload.

This is the article from the Cricketer:

Shan Masood is set to join Leicestershire for part of the 2025 county season.

The Cricketer understand Masood, the Pakistan Test skipper, is expected to join the club after leading Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League, in late May.

He will be available for the T20 Blast and the final part of the County Championship season.

The expectation is he will replace Australian Peter Handscomb who will be rested for the Blast and before his customary return to Australia before the end of the season. Handscomb is expected to captain, when available, in the Championship.

Masood has copious experience in county cricket. He was captain of the Yorkshire side which won promotion at the end of 2024 (though did not feature in the last six games) and scored a double-century at Upton steel County Ground - Leicestershire's home - for Derbyshire in 2022. He averaged 82.61 in first-class cricket for Derbyshire that season and 53.91 for Yorkshire across his two campaigns there.

He was less prolific in T20, though, averaging 22.11 in 25 games for Yorkshire and 42.69 in 15 for Derbyshire.

Leicestershire have also announced the signing of Logan van Beek as an overseas player.

The New Zealand-born all-rounder has previously represented Derbyshire (in 2019 and 2021) and Worcestershire (in 2023 and 2024).

He is expected to arrive in time for Leicestershire's second Championship match of the season.

It means South Africa allrounder Wiaan Mulder will not be returning to Grace Road after three truncated summers disrupted by injury, some inconsistent form, international commitments and franchise opportunities.

They also write this about LVB and he may have patchy availability:

The Netherlands international will be available from the second County Championship match against Derbyshire, where he had stints in 2019 and 2021.

Peter Handscomb is already confirmed to return for a third season and is expected to be the red-ball captain, taking over from Lewis Hill who stood down at the end of last summer. A third overseas player will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Allrounder Van Beek, 34, is also available for the T20 Blast, the group stage of which runs between late May and mid-July.

His availability will be dictated by his international commitments with the Netherlands, whom he has represented at six World Cups.

In ICC Cricket World Cup League Two they have matches scheduled in May, June, July and August. In between, the Dutch are scheduled to host a six-team regional qualifier for the next T20 World Cup.

Not sure on Van Beek, I'd rather we'd gone for someone a bit younger from New Zealand without an international schedule to balance, as that article suggests Van Beek will be doing with The Netherlands.  Also means we could try and get some consistency with them perhaps coming back for a few years in a row

Masood could be a useful signing. He brings experience, captaincy and he's potentially a heavy run scorer.

I think van Beek is an ok signing. He's a reasonably ok bowler who can hold a bat as a bonus. Our red ball bowling was absolutely woeful last season with the exception of Currie so a gun pace bowler would have been nice but budgets probably mean van Beek is our best bet.

An attack of van Beek, Wright and Holland is dads army stuff with Salisbury not fsr behind so hopefully Mike steps up, Scrivo finds his form from the tail end of 2023 and Wood, Hull and Green get and take opportunities.

Let's hope the young guys step up, Green looks a serious prospect and Dean Headley's son could be the next bowler coming through. We will at least have a very short tail most games with LVB, Mike, Scriven at 7, 8 and 9.
