Ahmed is Stokes' successor rather than anything else I think to be honest - his stats this year are over 40 with the bat and nust over 20 with the ball. Serious talent.

Agree he's looking great with the bat but still a work in progress with the ball and the stats are very misleading he's  hardly bowled and most of his wickets have been tailenders

Don’t think anyone would’ve predicted that score at the end of the day after the start we had. Superb.

The weather is going to have some part to play in the game for sure.  But we are now in a strong position and should be looking at putting 500+ on the board.

Not necessarily a bad thing, as long as those wickets are taken quickly and consistently (which they have been). He hasn't really bowled in favourable conditions this summer yet.

 

It does look like he'll go on to be a batting all-rounder but he's over 10 years away from his peak as a spinner, and his googly is already superb. Just needs to work on his stock ball.

Met office forecast looks okay- maybe a bit of rain around on Thursday morning

They love Bethell don't they, Ahmed is a better bowler but if they were picking him for his batting and bowling a few overs, I think it'll be Bethell who gets the nod

England's loss is our gain. More than happy for our best players to be playing for us.

So 93 from 14 overs to get the extra bonus point. I don’t think it’s worth going for it to be honest. Get to 400 before 110 then see if we can get up to 600 hopefully before tea, then declare.

His bowling's come on leaps and bounds this summer though. I thought he'd go on to be a white-ball hitter who bowls a bit, but he's better than that.

 

Right now he'd get in solely as a batsman or solely as a bowler for us across three formats. Genuine allrounder territory.

 

Looking forward to seeing him bowl on this deck if today's turn is anything to go by.

At this moment in time Liam.Dawson the best spinner\ batsman we have god knows why it's took.them this long to realise that

Agree that it's definitely not worth taking risks just to get the extra batting point. We need to bat long enough to rule out a Derbyshire win. I'd be happy to see us bat the whole of today!

I think his record this summer as a batter has probably surprised a few but I'd be amazed if he didn't feature heavily in squads over the next few years. 

 

His challenge as a stand alone batter is hes probably behind Jordan Cox and Bethell at least at this stage. And for all the Bethell plays golf chat, hes been the stand out player for his age group, played franchise (and excelled) and was brilliant in new zealand so a bit of work for rehan to take over him as a stand alone batter.

 

I think long term you could see Bethell and Ahmed in the team with 4 quicks but that's probably after Stokes retires.

Yeah Dawson isn't playing predominantly as a batsman though, which is what we were discussing

In Rehans favour that he's out scoring runs, especially at 3 whilst Bethell spends all summer carrying drinks. 

 

If Rehan was an off spinner I think he'd be in.

Im not sure he is tbh. Dawson's batting and bowling averages in the last few years are better than his and its in division 1. Dawson's had more impact in the t20 side too.

Hes not ready to do an all rounder bowling job in Tests over here yet imo but on the sub continent should be a shoe in.
