Davey as elder statesman of the bowling unit taking over from Wright would be ideal, he'll be 35 next season but that's 5 years younger than Wright and he can still bowl and bat to boot.

He, Holland and van Beek if he has another season (which I could see as he's been very effective this season) would be an aging attack but then Green who will be 28 and in his prime offsets that slightly and give it two years and hopefully Hull, Wood and A.Green are all fully up and running as Holland and Davey bow out. Scrivo and Mike are in their prime so puts us in a good place.

Salisbury and Walker are the other two seamers and think both are out of contract so find it hard to see either staying if Davey and Green both join. There may be an argument to keep someone for depth/injury cover but would prefer we backed A.Green and Wood.

Apparently these are the players out of contract this season:

Louis Kimber; Tom Scriven; Sam Wood; Lewis Hill; Harry Swindells; Chris Wright; Matt Salisbury; Roman Walker.

Absolutely essential we keep Scrivo in my opinion. Hill still has a role to play and Wood is young so hopefully gets more time to develop.

Swindells surely gets released as he's not troubled the first team in some time. Kimber worth keeping as a t20 finisher in my opinion (doubt we'll find a bigger hitter for that role) but not beyond that, he's good at that role but he is 28 and aside from that insane double ton hasn't done much in red ball cricket and his captaincy didn't seem a success.

I imagine there will be some interest from other counties in Scriven. Some, like Lancashire, are absolutely desperate to strengthen. Gloucestershire have been ransacked, already lost Goodman to Sussex and Zaman Akhter to Essex, while Singh Dale probably off to Lancashire and Price somewhere else. That's most of their bowling attack gone. I imagine Salisbury or Walker might get another year (if they want it), just because we need the depth, especially for the one-day cup.

We still suffering the Aussie balls at this round or has that now ended?

Still two more rounds of it! Fortunately we have a bowler who grew up with the kookaburra now though so I can see us having a bit more chance.

Edit what I said earlier. Tom Price of Glous has also been signed by Sussex for next season.

Strong squad.

Was just looking at the XI and thinking it's the most impressed i've been in years!

Need to take advantage of these next two rounds, be nice to be comfortable before the September rounds.

We won the toss and have decided to bat on an overcast day with the best of the conditions forecasted for day 4. Another interesting decision to say the least.

Not looking like an inspired decision thus far...

And we’ve lost a wicket in the first over.

To be fair it’s an absolutely appalling shot by Patel rather than anything the bowler or pitch did.

Can only imagine that they want the batting points.

Unbelievable. We go from bowling first with a weakened attack in the most bat-friendly conditions possible, to choosing to not play the 5-man seam attack which got us to the top of the league under low cloud cover and putting ourselves in.

Looks like a horrible decision.

If it’s any consolation, apart from Hull, you’d say Patel and Budinger are our two least reliable batters in the team. Just hope these two can see off the new ball and get in, plenty of runs to be had if so.

Fingers crossed. A lot of batting to come, but not much margin for error now.

Terrible shot from Patel, he looks totally out of form. By contrast, Rehan looks glorious and if he continues on this upwards trajectory, I could see a point where he gets picked for England purely as a batter, because there aren't many around with this range of fluent strokes.
