Always so many draws in county cricket, if it's not the weather it's flat decks that are hard to force a win in 4 days.

Hard enough getting 4-day cricket in the calendar but need to look at adding a 5th day.

A lot of other 'traditional' sports have managed issues like this without damaging the integrity. Snooker and tennis with shot clocks for example.

I wonder if there's something around maximum overs per innings, or forced declarations for teams above a certain score. Would encourage slightly more aggression over the 4 days too. We got 586 from 169 overs, they got 440 from 142, 3.4 an over vs 3 an over. If teams know they've got 130 overs max an innings (basically a new ball and a half?) then we'd probably get higher run rates and more results!

You're right though, given the brilliant weather we've had at the start of the season it's frustrating to see so many draws!

Still think we're a strike bowler short to win too many games- I say the same thing every year (including last year, but they bowled fantastically as a unit). Probably haven't had a fast bowler capable of ripping through top orders on a consistent basis since Abbas.

That said, the batting looks very strong and 5+ bonus point draws won't do us any harm whatsoever.

Good knock from Jamie Dunk for the seconds. Couple of the same seamers who have been turning out for a few years now - Pip Jackson and Julius Sumerauer of Jersey - have to admire their perseverance in trying to make it.

Sumeraauer been playing in the 2nds for 3/4 years now. Must have wealthy parents to spend that long trying to get a contract and earn practically  nothing

He'll earn a bit playing for Jersey - they are off playing qualifiers in Cyprus soon - but not enough for a main income I would have thought. Great way to spend your 20s if you can manage it financially.

Good ol' IPL again; the Keshav Maharaj deal with the Foxes fell through in February after CSA imposed "workload constraints" on him. Two months later and he's signing for Mumbai Indians as a replacement for the injured Santner.

I think in hindsight, once Maharaj wasn’t coming, we should’ve gone after another seamer. Van Beek was available at that time. You get Abbas and Kemar Roach knocking around in div.2 too.

Roach would have been a good signing, consistently takes wickets in county cricket. I suppose part of their thinking is that they want to give a pathway to Hull and Green, by offering them as much game time as possible.

There’s also a player called OB Rayner playing for the twos today. Any relation to OP Rayner?

I think (may be wrong) that's the son of a guy called Jamie Rayner who used to play for Harborough.

They moved away and he's played for Wales at Minor Counties level. Guessing there might still be local connections round here though.

I dint think anyone except a prime Murali would be spinning anyone to victory on that surface. Just devoid of any life whatsoever.

Well batted though. Teams impressive. Best team weve had since the 90s early 2000s.

The days of green seamers in April have long gone, they used to be a real test for batsmen this time of year and bowlers could cash in. I think it’s a combination of improved Groundkeepers skills added to the severe punishment handed out by the ECB for pitches that fall below what they believe to be the required standard.

It will get more interesting later in the season when teams need to win and pitches are being reused.

Agree about the bowling. Guys like Scrivo and Ben Green I think are solid first change bowlers. Wood looks like he's of the same mould.

Holland and Davey, the old stagers are going to be lethal on certain pitches and in certain conditions but those are not perhaps what we're seeing so far.

Mike will take some wickets if he plays but will go for buckets.

Hull has all the raw materials to be the strike bowler and point of difference but it's not come together for us so far at all really, an average of 45.87 after 24 games speaks for itself.

It looks like signing an overseas genuine fast bowler would have been a better shout at the moment, not only to liven up the attack but to mentor Hull and Alex Green as well.

Getting an overseas fast bowler is probably easier said than done.

From what I can see only ones in county cricket are the 'resident' one's who have been at a club for a few seasons.

Best best would probably have been a South African or Pakistan quick bowler that was looking to get in their test squads this summer.

We should’ve given Trevaskis a go ahead of signing Patel.

My only thinking is if Ahmed isn't available and with Trevaskis bring injury prone that would then leave us without a recognised spinner.

Nick Kelly. Don know that much about him. Any good?

It’s an all formats signing which is surprising.

Having a decent enough series against Bangladesh. Opens in one day games, bats 4th in T20's and is the T20 captain which is perhaps more down to how inexperienced the NZ T20 side is than anything else.

Another big 💯 for Gumbs in the seconds.

The internet will probably explode if he gets to face Tongue when we play Nottinghamshire
