Shaping up to be a long, hard season unfortunately.

Losing Maharaj and Ahmed has done a lot of damage.

And Pete! We miss him a LOT but hey Division two champions 2027 ole ole

We're certainly missing his captaincy. We replaced him pretty well with Weatherald (though he's an opener and it leaves the middle order very light). Patel and Maharaj are worlds apart.

Was always going to be a difficult season, I'm happy we are generally competing but just not being good enough.

One of our better players carrying drinks in the IPL isn't helping.

Holland batting at 3/4 is absolutely grim. Obviously were going to struggle to attract any top quality players at this level but it starting to show already

Holland beginning to look a poor cricketer. Will have the odd good score and take a few weeks on occasions but more often then not I suspect he will offer very little with bat or ball.

For the first two matches at least the batting looked like we might get some drawn games, but again, the bowling's weakness lets them put together a 400 plus total and with our batting now falling well short, it's another almost certain loss. I can't see us eking out a lead of even 150, and Sussex will knock that off in a session.

To make it worse Glamorgan in with a shout of beating Somerset

Went something like:  Tuffers was playing at Lords against i think  Northans who were 8 down going into the last day about to lose. Middlesex took a wicket at the start of play and could not get out the last man. Ray had sometning planned for later that night and there was roadworks on the M1. Middlesex could not get the last wicket as lunch approached. Tuffers was told by Ray to make sure he appealed if he hit the pad. Hit the pad missing and looked at the umpire who glared at him so he asked howzat. Ray shot the finger up and was off the pitch and on the road with his Mrs before he reckons the players got off the pitch. In fairness both him and Agnew spoke very highly of him, a character and in fairness a decent umpire

My grandad was good friends with Ray Julian, though it sounds like every Grace Road attendee was at that point in time 😂

Not ideal praying for the weather to bail us out week after week but here’s hoping for a day of it tomorrow.

First time I’ve not seen a real positive for what seems like months :(

Taking 20 wickets on a semi-consistent basis looks like a tall order as things stand. We're at least 1 opening bowler short at this level.

It's a long season and there will be changes in personnel, we'll probably need to operate shrewdly in the loan market again (Helm had a decent impact with the new ball).

Still, bat properly tomorrow and escape with a draw and we're in touch with safety- a lot rests on whether we can win a couple of our 'easier' games with Hampshire, Yorkshire and Glamorgan.

Day 3 report from Sussex v (spits coffee out) Derbyshire!!

".......His 89-ball 56 included six fours and a straight six, when he jumped down the wicket to hit Jack Carson down the ground. Patel took the attack to Carson, whose opening six-over spell went for 36.

But Tattersall found another strong partner in Steve Eskinazi, who was twice struck painful blows on the hand on his way to an unbeaten 26. When the players left the field for the last time, at 17:30 BST, Derbyshire were 154-4, with Tattersall having faced 128 deliveries."

In the last 3 seasons, 2 wins have been enough for teams to finish 3rd from bottom. In the year before that 1 win was enough! But that requires picking up enough bonus points and holding out for draws in lots of games.
