The contrast between the three commentators in the box at Essex this week speaks volumes for the quality of Richards work. I can’t believe that the BBC don’t recognise this.

I suspect if their commentary pool was centralised, they would. It's a Radio Leicester decision.

Dicky Davis the Essex commentator was ok.The other guy was poor but thought he was the guest commentator most of them are terrible. They had Don Topley on comms the other week who's always good.

Just noticed Essex have 3 SA test players in the side plus a Dutch international.Seems strange that it was classed as overseas for Van Beek last year.

Has Elgar retired?

4 down awful.delivery by Mike but who cares it gets a wicket

How often do you see that in cricket? Player gets bogged down v quality bowling then relaxes when rubbish bowler comes on and gets themselves out.

England's greatest ever cricketer was a master at it

It's complicated. But my understanding is.... Harmer is now an overseas player having returned to play for SA, but having previously been a kolpak; Elgar is now a local player as he has a British passport, having previously been an overseas player, but he no longer plays for SA; Snater has a Dutch passport, as this is part of the EEA and The Netherlands aren't a test nation, it means he is treated as a local player, despite being born in Zimbabwe; Mulder is just a plain overseas, nothing complicated!

Van Beek is classed as an overseas player here, because although he has a Dutch passport, he also plays in New Zealand, where he is classed as a local player, having been born there and you can't be a local player in more than one country.

Well that's made my head spin (but your explanation is brilliantly clear).

He'll probably still be batting at tea on Sunday....... and we so nearly had him when he was on 3, edging just short of Patel at 2nd slip

Ben Mike tearing through them now. World class

How many times does this guy perform on a comeback game from injury? But in between it’s just dog muck and modelling.

Looking with envy at how well Glamorgan are doing. Feels like they've really attacked the season with the surprise factor of a newly-pronoted side in a way we haven't.

Broadly, we've looked respectable, but it still feels like a bit of a missed opportunity.

Shows what confidence does for you too. They got an early win and have not looked back.
