And the coaches get awarded new contracts

Nothing more annoying than seeing failure being rewarded! Must be a Leicester thing.

Tbf, our strength of squad isn't all that great. We're weak on the bowling side, and inconsistent in the batting - and we didn't make the rights calls again on overseas players. At this level, that's enough to mean you will struggle to get a win. There's only so much a coach can do. It will be interesting to to see how many wickets we take as they bounce to their certain victory.

Agreed not denying that they done a good job last season and I'm not saying they should go but we have seen nothing this season  that suggest they deserve new deals. The lack of progress shown by Hull Wood and Mike is a concern.

How have the coaches failed ffs get a grip.

Because we are under performing massively.Look at Glamorgan are you telling me they are a better side then us? What progress have the young bowlers esp Hull made they have gone backwards.I didn't say the coaches should go btw I Said at this moment in time they didn't deserve new contracts

Think it's very harsh to turn on the same coaches who've overseen real improvements and a couple of trophies in the last few seasons. Was always going to be very tough this season. The score this morning is obviously awful but batting has been very tough all across the country with the cloud cover around. Even Surrey have collapsed v Yorkshire. That said, I agree that we have messed up by signing Patel rather than an overseas pace bowler. But Weatherald has been good as the other overseas player and we can't write off Kelly just yet - he's only just arrived in the UK and wasn't even meant to be playing in this match. Let's hope we can make a good fist of the T20 campaign to raise spirits.

Haven't turned on them simply said they don't deserve new contracts atm

Just cannot help thinking our 2 overseas players were recruited based on price, Weatherald has done OK to be fair but Patel and Kelly!!  60 all out

Credit to Essex, most of this has been exceptional bowling in conditions perfectly suited to their 72-78 mph seamers. As with all 4 day cricket, luck plays a part and they just happened to have all their best bowlers fit, in form and bowling when the condition are best for them. These conditions actually would have suited a match-fit (which is not what we've seen so far) Josh Davey, but we can only pick from what we've got.

There was a logic in signing a world-class bowler like Maharaj, because he can hold down one end and take wickets in any conditions. Patel is just way off that level and it probably needed a rethink in terms of recruitment, because he doesn't look very threatening.

Wouldn't have been a great look if the coaches who had secured us our first promotion (and convincing at that) in 20 odd years had just walked away. The timing of these announcements aren't always perfect, as negotiations can get delayed etc.

Come off it! Kelly has only been in the country five minutes and you feel that today’s innings qualifies you to cast judgement on him!!

I'm sorry to lose your top 6 for 41 on any level of cricket is pathetic. Unbelievable that from a strong position all match we now look like losing yet again. Relegation looks a formality already, we look out of our depth.

The team I play for on a Saturday were bowled out for 24 yesterday. Yours truly getting a second ball duck. :D

Kelly is soon to be 33 not played a test match for New Zealand and i believe not in the squad for their upcoming tour here. Not based on today as only just landed in the country, Hill was their and should have played. did you seriously have him down as an overseas player playing all formats for us?

@everton carrBen Mike reminds me of something someone once said about Agnew - and he told it against himself, that he went from promising young shaver to wily old hand without being really good in between!

I don't think there's much improvement to come from Mike anymore. Hull (and to an extent Green) may be should be kicking on more, but at the moment they're being compared to some very experienced County bowlers and you can't coach experience into a player.

Batting conditions seemed to improved somewhat

Underlines just how unlucky we have been. This morning we faced the perfect storm of top quality bowlers and perfect bowling conditions.

Bowlers like Cook and Porter have been taking the p*ss out of quality batters for half a decade now. No disgrace.

I just wish we had an attack of comparable quality.
