The Red Lion do a decent carvery.

Although the chip shop isn't as good as Birstall.

Piss off is it not. Rothley chippy is about eighty times better than Birstall, what you smokin' man?

I used to work in the Red Lion. Fact.

Edit: And Cossy Mill!

Haha I worked in The Red Lion as well. Kitchen Porter. Washed filthy pots and made deserts. Not sure hygiene standards were quite the same then as they are now.

I stand by Birstall Fisheries. I actually crave it if I don't go back to Leicester for awhile. London doesn't do proper fish and chips.

I remember when going to Cossington Mill once a year as a young child was like going to the Ritz - it was the poshest thing since a bowl that washed your bum.

Birstall Fisheries every time - though I know Rothely and Birstall residents that travel way from their own village to purchase at the other site.

The problem with Chippies south of Bedford is that curry sauce becomes more sporadically less available until you hit the south coast.

Somebody could change this thread to 'Charnwood Villages' at least then it might contain some subjective substance that posters can offer an opinion based on experience, or even a tiny amount of knowledge.

Cossy Mill was a dive behind the scenes. We were getting cash in hand for KPing as 15/16 year olds and weren't allowed to be seen haha. Often had to burn mysterious things out back... when it wasn't flooded!

I lived in Rothley and went to school in Birstall so have had plenty of both chippy! Queues in Rothley may drive people to Sorrell or Birstall but the nosh in Rofleh is top 'nana!

Daily Mail i know but if this turns out to be true its unbeleivable!!!

There have been so many of these stories since she went missing so it's hard to get too much hope up. It must be heartbreaking for the family everytime these things come up and then prove to be unfounded.

I hope the nosy tourist and Indian Police will apologise to the little girl and her parents after this ordeal. <_<

Finners - Fuck off.

It's not what it once was since it's gone down the burger/kebab route, but at it's peak Birstall Fisheries dicked all over your poncy seafood outlet.

Apparently there's a new one opening up on Sibson Road where the video shop used to be?

It's opened mate, been going for a month or so now, only live on Colindale so it's virtually round the corner. Still haven't been though, looks more like a greasy kebab type place rather than a proper chippy. God I miss Hollywood Video and gazing up at it's selection of porn as a ten year old.

Absolutely clueless child. Complete philistine.

I worry about the direction this country's going!
