Geo V Posted 9 July 2007 Posted 9 July 2007 Fryatt can score and has proved it at times. Last season he was like a knife with a blunt or broken blade. This season I hope he's mended, sharpened and sticking himself right into the hearts of opposition defences. I was uner the impression from lasy season that you didnt want him in the side and preffered the likes of Elvis or Dodds or have I misread the situation??
The Bear Posted 10 July 2007 Posted 10 July 2007 I'm not knocking Fryatt when I said back-up, but we also had a £1m bid in for Lafferty at Burnley. I think we put in low-ish bids for our other targets in case we didn't get Sharp or Eastwood.

I wouldnt call him back up if you signed him.... You dont sign a player in the championship for 1m+ and use him as back up.... prem, maybe... but not here...
Thracian Posted 10 July 2007 Posted 10 July 2007 I was uner the impression from lasy season that you didnt want him in the side and preffered the likes of Elvis or Dodds or have I misread the situation?? I didn't think Fryatt deserved a starting place almost throughout the whole of last season. He wasn't properly fit at the beginning, his form was poor and, later, he was injured and suffering through lack sharpness and match fitness. Even for his own sake he should never have been better than on the bench. Without exception I would always pick teams on merit. If I signed a player it would always be because I think he's good so personal preference wouldn't enter into it. But form and fitness would. Fryatt at his fittest and sharpest would challenge for a place but unfit and out of form and I'd drop him like anyone else. Including Hammond/Dodds.
davieG Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 Links 1. 2 3 Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is reportedly set to step up his efforts to sign Leicester striker Matty Fryatt by making a £1.5million bid. McCarthy is still keen on bolstering his forward line at Molineux, despite already snapping up Freddy Eastwood from Southend recently. And, having had a £900,000 offer turned down by Foxes boss Martin Allen earlier this month, it seems he could increase his efforts to sign the former Walsall player.Preston are also thought to be looking at Fryatt after David Nugent left Deepdale for Portsmouth last week and it looks like the player, who struck up a decent partnership with Iain Hume last term despite being beset with injury problems while at the Walkers Stadium, could be on his way. Wolves' hopes of signing Fryatt will probably rest on Allen's success in signing a quality replacement with former Liverpool star Robbie Fowler his top target. However Birmingham's DJ Campbell, MK Dons star Izale McLeod and Blackburn's Francis Jeffers have also been linked to Leicester recently.
Blue Bob Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 Wolves and Preston interested, excellent time for a bidding war. We know both have got money so what should we settle for £2.5 Million???? I know a bit hopeful !!!
Brainy Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 Just thought I'd let you know that we won't be coming in for Fryatt again.QUOTE One player who can be taken off McCarthy's wanted list is Leicester striker Matty Fryatt. Wolves made an enquiry about the former Walsall man but McCarthy has now ruled out making a bid following the arrival of Eastwood. "I had some interest in him a while ago but that is dead in the water now. We've signed Freddy now so that won't happen." Sounds like he was only a back-up option. Fez of Mahrez Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 No, No, No.We can't let this happen! I'm packing his bags as we speak, although I'm not sure I'll be able to fit in all 350 Happy Meals unfortunately.
The People's Hero Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 I'm packing his bags as we speak, although I'm not sure I'll be able to fit in all 350 Happy Meals unfortunately. Remove the packaging mate, and keep the toys for the Academy lads. How did he get 350 anyway? Are Doddsy and Sheehan smuggling them out for him at the end of their shifts?
Blue Bob Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 Just announced on Wolves web site that they are on the verge of signing Stephen Elliott from Sunderland. Will they need another striker????
Fez of Mahrez Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 Just announced on Wolves web site that they are on the verge of signing Stephen Elliott from Sunderland. Will they need another striker???? No. I think it's crap anyway. Why shell out £1.5m on a duffer like Fryatt when you've got Keogh, Eastwood and now Elliott.
Rocky Dennis Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 No.I think it's crap anyway. Why shell out £1.5m on a duffer like Fryatt when you've got Keogh, Eastwood and now Elliott. What u on about? One bad season mainly through injury dont mean he's on the scrapheap, didnt Thierry Henry have a bad year too? I couldnt give a monkeys about Fryatt's stats either, ive got eyes, he's a quality player, with a decent pre-season and better players around him im sure he'll prove it!
Joe. Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 If we can get £1.5 million for him then he'd be worth selling I reckon so long as we can get a replacement good enough. Fryatt's a good player but he's easily replaceable.
Maybes Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 I would be very disappointed if we sold fryatt and then brought in campbell or jeffers in to replace

MA will make them play regardless of wanting too or not! MA has hinted in several of his speeches that matty is looking sharp so i say give him a chance! ive always said he will be a gem for us! and wolves can fook right off anyway!
Geo V Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 I am resigned to thinking that Fryatt will be sold which will be a shame as we havent seen the best of him. If we make a profit on him which seems certain it will prove to be great business but we have got to get the right player in to replace him. (if he goes that is )
Cheese Me Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 I would be very disappointed if we sold fryatt and then brought in campbell or jeffers in to replace Me too. Don't believe either of them have the potential to be the player Matty can become - or that either of them are as good as him now come to that.
dandannieldanok Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 I would be very disappointed if we sold fryatt and then brought in campbell or jeffers in to replace Agreed, especially if we plumped for Jeffers

(if he goes that is ) Selling your better players is never great business, we made a massive profit when we sold Heskey but afterwards we were much worse off even with £11M in the bank. Personally id rather have Matty Fryatt in our squad than a million or so in the coffers.
Kent Fox Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 Sods Law: We sell Matty. We play who we sell Matty to. Matty sticks four past us. Matty gets Personality of the year. And wins every major trophy he can. Matty gets sold for £20m to Real Madrid Or is that murphy's Law?
