Didn't we pay £750,000 for Fryatt, if so think about the add ons we will have to give walsall, we'll barley make a profit

i think we should keep him, if he stays injury-free he could be a big asset next season.

Thought we paid £350,000 cash up front, £200,000 in installments, a bit more based on goals and a sell on clause? Sommat silly like that.

More use to keep him and hope that he can get fit and back into form, cause he's certainly good enough for this level when at his best, rather than selling for a low figure now.

Im still a Fryatt fan and think he is a good finisher. Hopefully he will have a part to play this coming season. Having four first team strikers is what we should be looking at. So at the moment we have Cort, Hume, Fryatt and the imminant arrival of Job. Will they score enough goals between them ? only time will tell. Alot will depend on our midfield recruits in the coming weeks, and whether they will give us the quality our strikers need. I know we have also signed Sappleton but im pretty sure he has been ear marked as "one for the future", so will probably join Dodds and Odihambo in the reserves and not make too much of an impact on the first team. But with the right service and right conditioning I believe Fryatt can still be a big player for us. The only thing we can be sure of is that Job and Cort are better options than Hammond and O'Grady.

100% agree. He does need a bit of a kick up the arse, though.

£1,500,000 should do the trick for MM i reckon

I would agree. I don't think he has a future at the club, defintley not if Job and Todorov sign aswell.

Well that’s a load of old guff in my opinion. There is no way we’d turn down that sort of cheese for Fryatt, just wouldn’t happen. The Daily star should keep to what they do best, knockers.

You are wrong again !

I totally agree with the pro Fryatt sentiments expressesd. I would have been much more happy to have heard the simple phrase 'he's not for sale!'

His performances last season I feel were down to an inept middlefield and defence constantly hoofing the ball up into the air to him together with injury and subsequent understandable lack of fitness problems (this icludes Kisnorbo who, whilst he doesn't lack application, does lack the basic skill to pass a ball other than via the clouds). Fryatt WILL in my opinion become a really good player. If he's sold I think it say's more about MM and MA (more the former as I don't think MA has much of a say in anything). The signings so far wreek about trying to do something on the cheap. £7M from sponsorship, possibly trying to claw cash in on a great young assest whilst bringing in doubtful quality and risky free transfers, who lets face, won't have much of a sell on value, what do you read into it?

It's probably just me!

Cheers.

We should be a buying club in this league, not a selling one.

There shouldn't be any reason for Fryatt to move to Wolves. To have done so would have shown they have more ambition than us.

He has potential, and I'd rather see him develop it with us then do it elsewhere in this league.

In full agreement. Why should we need to sell? He may not have delivered but given the right role and service could be prolific if not, very usefull, keep him if we can....unless of course there is some huge name on the cards we are not privy to ?

Not if you had it your way!

Do you see how wrong you were?

Maybe we should dig up some of your old abusive and depressive posts?

I agree with all of that, but I must admit his finishing has to be his best attribute, which is why he will be a huge asset to us next season; maybe a super sub? :P

Anyway, we should keep him unless we get a crazy price for him

How fast things can change in football.

Matty Fryatt, in contrast to last season, started training this week looking fit and keen, while Carl Cort looked reportedly less than athletic.

Not only that but other strikers we might have signed failed to materialise.

While Fryatt won a man of the tournament training award, Cort was reportedly pained by first one thing then another.

Wolves might well be wishing they'd bid a tempting price for Fryatt in the first place!

Cos the way things now stand, you couldn't imagine City being very keen to sell at all, and for more than one reason.

You've hit the nail on the head there Thracian. Seriously, though, what is your view as to Fryatt's effectiveness to play in the more direct style that seems to be coming our way? Do you think he has the physical presence or pace or do you feel he could adapt to Allen's style?

I'm not totally sure this team's going to be completely direct. It appears that either Hendrie or Clemence might be joinjed Kisheshev in the middle which gives some guile and ball playing ability in the middle of the park and, to my mind at least, the signings of newton, hayes and kaabi show that we're going to be pushing on down the wings. thewre is likely to be some directness but i think we'll be able to mix it up with some decent football for a change too.

Pushed for a view I'd say no. My reservations about the guy remain. For me he lacks a little of some important qualities for an all-round striker - a little height, a little strength, a little speed, heading ability at near and far post, effective interplay with team-mates, selfless runs to make space for others, sufficient range of shooting etc.

Against good opponents he needs at least some of those qualities.

But Fryatt also has strengths though last season he gave himself no chance of using them effectively.

This year he's returned to training fit, lean and focused by all accounts. It is to his credit and this should mean that he close control, his instincts for an opportunity should be more productive and he should certainly be an asset to the team.

But will that be enough to get him the 18 goals we need from him? I doubt it but hope I'm wrong. He might manage 14.

However, his qualities might allow him to make more goals than previously, providing he embraces the team ethic and improves his ability to use his colleagues. To often last season people made runs and he ignored them, trying instead to go it alone.

If he can improve that aspect and makes 8/12 goals as well then at his age and with his experience at Championship level that would be a decent contribution even if he spends part of the time on the bench. I don't forget what I've said so often about our own Academy prospects...it is easy to forget Fryatt is young and still learning.

Inexperienced youngsters often have form relapses, partiicularly in their second season or after the early adrenalin rush of breaking through has ended. Fans and managers need wisdom and patience to cope with this without destroying the players confidence.

Yes I worry about that too, especially the speed. But he undoubtedly has talent as a finisher.I'd hate to see him leave here and become a success. As for his selfishness, all strikers have that.
