Thracian Posted 7 August 2007 Posted 7 August 2007 http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/200...89520-19581673/ If you look at the last paragraph of the main piece it is as I suspected - we shouldn't necessarily think of Martin Allen long term. In fact with MA's throwaway remark and MM's average of appointing a manager a season they seem made for each other!
Ric Flair Posted 7 August 2007 Posted 7 August 2007 http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/200...89520-19581673/If you look at the last paragraph of the main piece it is as I suspected - we shouldn't necessarily think of Martin Allen long term. In fact with MA's throwaway remark and MM's average of appointing a manager a season they seem made for each other! That's the thing, I really do think they're made for each other. Mandaric never was going to appoint a dour, sensible manager. It was always going to be someone a little flamboyant, who's got something about them. I don't want to get carried away, but i'm desperate for Allen to fulfill his undoubted potential as a manager here. For him to get that elusive first promotion.
Daggers Posted 7 August 2007 Posted 7 August 2007 For the benefit of everyone that can't access it: Martin Allen plans to give Leicester's Premier League hopes the kiss of life this season after claiming that he has performed a heart transplant at the club since taking charge.Allen has signed 12 players for the Foxes since he was hired from League Two MK Dons to succeed Nigel Worthington in May. And Allen, who inherited a side which finished 19th in the Championship last term, is targeting promotion after steering Brentford and the Dons into the play-offs inthe past two seasons. Advertisement Click here to find out more! Eccentric Allen, who famously swam in the Solent and the Tees during the Bees' 2005 FA Cup run to motivate his players, has already got his squad playing children's board games to foster team spirit. But he knows failure to mount a credible promotion challenge will be no joke as Leicester owner Milan Mandaric is not known for his patience after going through eight managers in eight years at Portsmouth. "There is a massive transformation taking place here," said Allen, who was nicknamed Mad Dog in his playing career as a tough midfielder. "I try to draw an analogy with major surgery as it wasn't just going in to have a plaster on a cut or a few stitches, it needed ripping apart. "A lot of players were out of contract and left and the team finished well down the table, so something had to be done. The side needed a heart transplant. "I know what football is about and Mr Mandaric is an ambitious man who doesn't mess about, but I don't like messing about either. "I have worked so hard for 11 years to get this chance to manage at this level, so I am going to enjoy it and I know the fans will get behind me. "All the clubs I have been at have been struggling and when I left have been near the top of the table, so I suppose I have been doing something right. "I have never wanted to be at a club which is a mid-table Tommy. I want to compete and be at the top and it ruins my life when we don't win." And Allen, whose side wrapped up their pre-season campaign with a 1-0 win at Cambridge United last night, feels the top flight is his eventual destination with or without Leicester as he has learnt there is little loyalty in football. "I have resigned from my other clubs because I wanted new challenges," he said. "I've been called disloyal, but I recall my dad being sacked when his team were seventh in the Southern League. "So who knows what may happen? If Mr Ferguson wants an assistant in a year's time I may be interested." MART'S WACKY WORLD Life has not been the same at Leicester since Martin Allen arrived. Here are some of the eccentric manager's more unusual methods since taking over at The Walkers Stadium: * STAGED a four-team World Cup themed seven-a-side tournament in training, with Mars bars for the winners and a £3.99 BBQ utensil kit for the best player. * INTRODUCED a naughty chair in training for misbehaving stars. * SENT the squad to work one afternoon in club megastore, ticket office and sales departments. *CONFISCATED flashy watches from players. *HAS a black wooden Buddha in his office which he rubs every morning. Players IN: DJ Campbell from Birmingham (£1.6m), Stephen Clemence from Birmingham (£1m), Shaun Newton from West Ham United (undisclosed), Jonathan Hayes from Reading (undisclosed), James Chambers from Watford (free), Sergio Hellings from Heracles Almelo (undisclosed), Radostin Kishishev from Charlton Athletic (free), Bruno N'Gotty from Birmingham (free), Jimmy Nielsen from Aalborg (free), Hossein Kaebi from Perspolis (free), Carl Cort from Wolves (free), Reneil Sappleton from (undisclosed). Players OUT: Patrick McCarthy to Charlton (£650,000), Jason Jarrett to Preston (cancelled contract), Andy Johnson to Barnsley (free), Danny Cadamarteri to Huddersfield (free), Danny Tiatto to Queensland Roar (free), Nils-Eric Johansson (released), Geoff Horsfield to Sheffield United (loan ended), Andy Welsh to Sunderland (loan ended), Mark Yeates to Colchester (loan ended).

It was always going to be someone a little flamboyant, who's got something about them. I don't want to get carried away, but i'm desperate for Allen to fulfill his undoubted potential as a manager here. For him to get that elusive first promotion. I completely agree. I'm sure there were other options like an experienced Bryan Robson You could see from Allen's first interview he has a massive ambition to manage in the Premiership, I really hope he can fulfill that with is.
Geo V Posted 7 August 2007 Posted 7 August 2007 Milan has proved that if he likes a manager who does well for him, he keeps him (like Harry Redknapp). If you are pants like some of the others he has had at his clubs he ends up booting them out quick time. I wouldn't even worry about if MA will leave us if successful because that happens when someone comes in who has strong links elsewhere or even someone who is ambitious. He has proven to be just that, leaving clubs to progress in his career but I wont give two tosses as it will basically mean we have done well.
MBK Posted 7 August 2007 Posted 7 August 2007 To be honest the last remark of loyalty seems a bit thwarted by the paper. Not the kind of thing to say just before the new season and I'm sure MA knows it.
Flynny Posted 7 August 2007 Posted 7 August 2007 I don't see him being here more than a couple of seasons whatever we do. He's a manager who motivates by sheer force of personality, and once he's been around players a couple of seasons I suspect his eccentricities seem far less strange and maybe even tiresome. I'd say the 'Martin Allen Magic' wears off after a while.
Stuliasz Posted 7 August 2007 Posted 7 August 2007 Well to get a better job, he's going to have to do a good job with us and I can't see that doing anyone any harm.
Stevosevic Posted 7 August 2007 Posted 7 August 2007 Well to get a better job, he's going to have to do a good job with us and I can't see that doing anyone any harm. Agreed. These MK Dons fans moaning for not being loyal are talking rubbish. He came to us because it was a step up, if he wants a step up from us it would probably mean he has got us promotion to the Premiership and stayed there.

moseeds Posted 7 August 2007 Posted 7 August 2007 "I have never wanted to be at a club which is a mid-table Tommy. I want to compete and be at the top and it ruins my life when we don't win." Not averse to a bit of hyperbole! Let's hope it's true at least someone in the team will be upset if we start sliding down again!
maddog Posted 7 August 2007 Posted 7 August 2007 i rekon if Allen does well and gets Leicester into the top 4 but we end up not getting promotion, he may be offered a prem job with a team like Fulham if they don't go down and leave us. I rekon Allen may end up at Sunderland though when Roy Keane replaces Ferguson as Man Utd manager
Tomassi Posted 7 August 2007 Posted 7 August 2007 what the... he hasn't even managed 1 game or leicester yet!

Bryan Robson is hopeless as a manager. all his teams seem to struggle. he has the combined managerial ability of a bag of cement mix and a deck chair If anyone can mess up the blades after all the money they seem to of spent, it will be him..
Bryn Posted 7 August 2007 Posted 7 August 2007 Wonder who's been forced to sit in that? Elvis Hammond. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmLjTc4Ok2g
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 7 August 2007 Posted 7 August 2007 Hopefully one of two things will happen 1.) MA is a roaring sucess and we rore to the top of the division 2.) Ma very quickly get's on the players nerves, they get him sacked and the players are so releived that someone else is manager when he (or she for the politically correct) take over they play like ace's and go storming into the play offs! I hope it's the first one - I like a manager that has character and will make you chuckle at his interviews - I hates, prats like Neil Warnock - think he'll ever get another job?
Daggers Posted 7 August 2007 Posted 7 August 2007 what the...he hasn't even managed 1 game or leicester yet! Thracian doesn't even need a competitive match anymore - his cat/dog is now able to forecast managerial fortunes at the drop of a hat. Did I say Managerial Fortunes? That gives me an idea for another Photoshop picture...

DJ Barry Hammond Posted 7 August 2007 Posted 7 August 2007 BOWOWOWOWOW! Erm... hooker? Nice work on the Ken Jones thing - i did have a laugh to myself when i saw that on the BBC Sport page - do you think the FA will go back to Saints and say 'tapping up or no tapping up, you're stupid for turning down 5m!'

Milky Posted 7 August 2007 Posted 7 August 2007 Thracian, did you go to the reserves game against Crystal Palace in Hinckley a couple of years ago sitting in the seated area?

NorthernFox Posted 7 August 2007 Posted 7 August 2007 Can everybody take a sodding chill pill ffs. He is going to be a roaring success and our best manager since MON. We will have a great season of attacking and winning football and then all the nay sayers can go fellate themselves
