Maybe Ollie has other transfer targets but he may have to wait until the later stages of the window to finalise them and in the meantime we need someone to play centre midfield. Is there a rule on how many long-term loans your allowed at one time because we have Ben Alnwich, Laczko Zsolt and maybe Gabor Bori on loan til the end of the season?
Since season 2005/06 Football League clubs have been subject to FIFA's registration and transfer rules which included the introduction of transfer windows between the end of the season and 31st August and during the month of January, i.e. 1st to 31st.

The rules affected both permanent and loan transfers and in order to comply The League amended its own regulations governing this area. Previous restrictions on the length of loan periods were altered to allow players of all ages to be loaned from window to window for either a half or full season. Clubs are allowed to register a maximum of eight such signings, four under 23 and a further four over 23 in any season, with only two of the latter age group being allowed to come from the same club.

Additionally, The League, with the approval of the FA, made provision for clubs to take players on short term emergency loans during the closed periods in exceptional circumstances – there is no limit on the number of emergency loans.

As in previous seasons, no more than five loan players will be allowed to feature in a club's 16 man matchday squad.

The transfer deadline of the fourth Thursday in March in each season still applies.

The regulations are contained in The League's Handbook which is available to purchase from this office. Please advise if you would like to receive a publications pro-forma for the 2007/08 season.

Thank you for contacting The Football League.

Holding i thought

Yeah that's what Wikipedia says.

We have plenty of holding midfielders already.

His brother Isaac plays for Cov!

I thought he played well against us last year in the League Cup but was pretty shocking this season when we beat them. Having said that, he's got all the physical attributes needed. Interesting speculation.

He's certainly not an attacking midfielder as such, but he's got a good engine on him and plays very much like Tom Huddlestone does. People seem to think Clemence will benefit from having a good holding midfielder alongside him anyway.

Just how many players is Holloway bidding for? It's amazing. I applaud him for his refusal to put all of his eggs in one basket.

Bori

Norris

Osbourne

Kavanagh

Martin

Pecnik

Allegedly bids in for all of them within the past few days. I'd laugh if all of them get accepted.

And if they all get rejected?

i can only assume we are going for him because Bradley has chosen to go to Leeds..

You might be better off assuming that we pulled out of talks with Bradley because Osbourne is a better option and we have other irons in the fire with regard to permanent transfers.

By the sounds of it his agent is touting him to the highest bidder and trying to start a bidding war, not picking the best option to further your career. I hope Ollie has told him to b*llocks!!

:yesyes:

If we wanted to the Johnson transfer would have been done days ago.

Unless they go for the Weso/Clem approach of standing 2 yards apart and both pointing and shouting.

Midfielders aren't divided into holding players and creative players  he's an athletic, hardworking midfielder who can also play up front. Good for a system with wingers, he'll get hold of the ball well, run all game and get the ball down the flanks.

Centre midfielders are by definition in the middle; they're expected to be adept at both attacking and defending. It's just unfortunate that we've been lumbered with static midfielders, and have craved creativity in midfield for so long that the "attacking midfielder" has become something of a myth, a Holy Grail, to us.

Oh, and don't always trust Wikipedia, I doubt he is a pure holding midfielder.
