If this is just a month's loan how many more loans will be allowed to do this season as that would be 4 on loan at the moment along with John on loan until end Jan??

(Courtesy of davieGs post) The rules affected both permanent and loan transfers and in order to comply The League amended its own regulations governing this area. Previous restrictions on the length of loan periods were altered to allow players of all ages to be loaned from window to window for either a half or full season. Clubs are allowed to register a maximum of eight such signings, four under 23 and a further four over 23 in any season, with only two of the latter age group being allowed to come from the same club.

By my reckoning we've loaned 6 so far: Marton Fulop, Marco Ferreira, Collins John, Bori Gabor, Lazcko Zsolt and Barry Hayles (initially joined on loan, didn't he?)

So 2 left...

Yup, we did. Forgot about him. And just checked the facts about Hayles' transfer, turns out it wasn't an initial loan, so still 6 loans and 2 left...

Edit: Incidentally, that meant that we couldn't re-sign Fulop on loan for the rest of the season as we'd already loaned Clarke and Fulop once. I think?

Wasn't Djeziri on loan as well?

He was on trial I think.

Extensions don't count as a seperate loan, so we could have took Fulop back as many times as we wanted. Now however, it would be a seperate loan, I think, because he has returned completely.

what was the talk about emergency loans?

was it in the merc or on sky where the Hayles / Howard transfers were touted as initially being emergency loans so that they could play on new years day, before the full xfers went through?

Does Isiah's brother play for Cov? Should add some spice to the proceedings...

Yep he does..

Midfielder Isiah Osbourne has been compared to Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira, because of his height and tackling ablility.

Martin O'Neill's arrival at Aston Villa saw him make his Premiership debut against Fulham at Villa Park in October 2006.

Since then he has become a regular in the first-team squad - making 13 appearances during 2006/07.

A former England Under-16 international, Osbourne made his name in a strong Villa reserve side and the club are keen to tie him down to a long-term deal.

His brother, Isaac Osbourne, currently plays in midfield for Coventry City.

Well in that case that makes it 7 loans?! for this season already! It's getting a bit complicated, but by my reckoning we're only allowed one more loan and it has to be an U-23 player... :dunno:

lol Knowing Milan's business skills and our luck we'll get out the bottom three and be docked points at the end of the season relegating us by a point......

Don't know about you but I'd say a multi-millionaire probably has some pretty good business skills.

Last season Stoke had dozens of loan signings, don't know the exact number but it was a lot. So we'll be alright.

But he didn't make a first team appearance so maybe doesn't count :dunno:

Out of interest, when was/is this loan meant to go through? :dunno:

Sometime today I think.

It says the deal is close to being completed so I'd imagine within the next couple of days, if not today.

Osbourne and Cahill go on loan from Aston Villa

Jan 9 2008

By Bill Howell, Birmingham Mail

ISIAH Osbourne and Gary Cahill could lead a mini-exodus of Villa players farmed out on loan.

Manager Martin O'Neill has received massive interest in the pair with one club in particular looking to take 20-year-old midfielder Osbourne.

Cahill's stock is even higher, with a clutch of Premier League clubs interested in signing him permanently, while Championship clubs want him on loan following his success at Sheffield United.

Stephen O'Halloran is another who could move out short-term.

O'Neill said: "People I would be looking to send out on loan are young players who need first-team football because they have reached a point where they would benefit from games which they maybe aren't getting here.

"But we're not looking to decimate the squad, we're looking to strengthen."

Cahill is wanted by Bryan Robson following his three months at Bramall Lane. He has not made the bench since his return and has played just 45 minutes of league football for Villa this season.

"There are things ongoing at the moment," continued O'Neill.

"There's been a heck of a lot of interest in Gary which is not surprising considering he did so well at Sheffield United and it's a case of reviewing the situation.

"As for Osbourne, he would be one of those I would seriously think about sending on a short-term loan at the moment.

"He's injured - he has a bruised thigh - and that's why he didn't play in the reserves on Monday night against West Ham.

"But we're assessing his situation because a number of teams have shown an interest, certainly one in particular, and as soon as he's fit and well, we'll address it."

O'Neill added: "There will be things happening here between now and the end of January which I think will benefit the club and the players."
