Pompey sign Djeziri

That'd be top six chasing Premiership and relegation battling Championship.

Someone somewheres cocked up whether it be here or Portsmouth.

I think we all know which club cocks up more than any other

Passed at the chance to sign is a bit different from actively released though, isn't it?

The only player I can think of who we've released in the past few years that we could have done with is Lars Hirschfeld.

lol Lars Hirschfeld is shite, If your going to say any goalkeeper it'd have to be Spider, even though I wouldn't have him back even if he is Milan no.2

The thing is that these days Premiership sides can afford to sign up a load of kids and stick them in the reserves for months on end. Djeziri's obviously got something even if he wasn't the finished article that we needed. He won't make an appearance for their first team any time soon.

I think his problem here was that he wasn't a defender pretending to be an attacking midfielder, he was a bona fide attacking midfielder.

I don't think he's that great, but I'd put him ahead of Douglas and Henderson. When we got rid of Spider, we had better options. And to be honest, I've never seen Spider be anything but dreadful, while I've seen Hirschfeld put in a few good games as well as a few rubbish ones.

Thats hardly the whos who of goal keeping list is it lol

If he had something surely we should of kept him, it's not like we can't afford to have him on the books if he's going to turn out to be a decent player.

They can take a risk on him turning out half-decent on the basis of his previous performances whereas he didn't play well for our reserve side. He'll be more willing to sit in their reserves than in ours and Championship clubs don't sign trialists unless they impress whereas Premiership clubs can stockpile youngsters in the hope that one of them turns out to be the next Ronaldo. That's just my take on it and would at least explain an otherwise strange move.

 but when all is said and done they must think for some reason he will be good enough to play at that level one day otherwise they wouldn't of bothred. It's not like Premier League clubs taking on failed Championship loanes is a common thing.

We'll see anyway.

Can't help but think that money comes into this somehow. Manager gets a cut of sell on fees, something like that.

If Portsmouth keep this kid for a few months, perhaps even give him a cup game or a place on the bench, then that in itself will give him a fancy profile and someone of lower league standard migth come in and buy him for a few bob.

Imagine it this way. Djiziri signs at £3000 a week. Stays 12 weeks. £36,000 outlay. Ambitious foreign side reckons a failed Premiership player with some silky skills might be just what they need and pays £150,000 plus extra for appearances.

You might clear £100,000 profit for having someone to help fill your reserve team. If the manager gets a cut of the sell on fee he'll be happy and if the club does that sort of thing enough times the benefit to turnover and proitability becomes significant. And, as has already been mentioned, occasionally a club hits the jackpot.

No chance of that with Djiziri from what I've seen but that's the way it could work I suppose.

Smaller clubs couldn't do it so easily because they don't get the income of Premiership set-ups. But for the big boys it all adds to the balance sheet and the better the balance sheet the better the market value/sell-on price of the club.

He'll just be gracing Portsmouth's night spot, with his bent waistcoats.

A Fan that's all, I just think it's a myth that all these players have slipped through our hands. Sure we've sold some that have moved on to better things but let go, as I said name them.

While your at it put some managers down, MON and.............?????

Micky Adams, Craig Levein, Rob Kelly, Nigel Worthington, Martin Allen, Gary Megson, Ian Holloway (had to think of that one lol)

I could also put loads more down if I went on Wikipedia but what's the point?

I'll take that bet quite happily.

No thank you :scarf:

Sorry if i'm mistaken as im not 100% sure what dG asked you, but you're just naming recent managers..?
I was sure he was on about managers who have gone onto better things? :S
Im not alone in thinking that then...

I'd forgotton with DB you have to spell it all out and presume he's devoid of any common sense either that or he's a wind up merchant just pretending to be as bright as a 2 watt light bulb.

For goodness' sake I hope he is! I could forgive him for just seeking some attention...

How come? Good enough for Premiership but not championship?

How do you know he's good enough yet?
