Webbo Posted 4 February 2008 Posted 4 February 2008 I was just daydreaming today when I remembered this great track from the 80s. Anyone know any other good foreign language tracks?
Chairman of the Bored Posted 4 February 2008 Posted 4 February 2008 Everything by Kent. Sweden's biggest band. They produce everything in Swedish, unlike most other Swedish acts who sing in English.

Finnegan Posted 4 February 2008 Posted 4 February 2008 Dafydd Iwan - Yma o Hyd. [Welsh.] Hide - Rocket Dive. [Japanese.] Volbeat - Garden's Tale. [50% incomprehensible English, 50% Danish.] Sinead O'Connor - Oro Se Do Bheatha 'Bhaile. [irish Gaelic.] Guitar Wolf - Jet Generation. [More Japanese.] Gogol Bordello are pretty good fun for foreign languages, too. They just throw them in at random, I think.

Finnegan Posted 4 February 2008 Posted 4 February 2008 If we're doing foreign covers, then you really can't pass up on the Dutch version of Barbie Girl. Dutch is quite possibly the least sexy language. Ever.
Webbo Posted 4 February 2008 Author Posted 4 February 2008 Dutch is quite possibly the least sexy language. Ever. It doesn't seem like that when I'm browsing my video collection.
Head Honcho Posted 4 February 2008 Posted 4 February 2008 Arguably the best foreign language recording of all time. Ladies and Gentlemen I give you. Jacques Brel - Ne Me Quitte Pas http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=bJIZu37Hfr0

Matt Posted 4 February 2008 Posted 4 February 2008 Sigur Ros - Hoppipolla mainly (Personally), but most things by Sigur Ros.
MPH Posted 4 February 2008 Posted 4 February 2008 Although half in english, this still counts as foreign for me... Look out for Youssou N'Dour's third line... i swear it says " Dont F**k me up..." Althought he will probably say its French... Youssou N'Dour / Neneh Cherry- 7 Seconds.

Raj Posted 5 February 2008 Posted 5 February 2008 Goli mar, tbh. Goli Mar means shoot 'em.....how you know that Finners??? Or is it something in Welsh you said??? Ive always though that Punjabi and Welsh are similar!
Lillehamring Posted 5 February 2008 Posted 5 February 2008 although i have a few tracks in norwegian, swedish and icelandic, i would say that the best foreign languaged music is french or japanese... japanese (not so much guitar wolf!) to me makes the voice sound like an instrument, especially girlie vocals, someone like maaya sakamoto, or i think 'yae' (have to double check that.) stereolab, is a good bet for french, and definately worth checking out is new french 'first lady' and ex-sooper model, carla bruni...totally not what you'd expect. serge gainsbourg is cool, too. and how about, asttrud gilberto, makes portuguese/brazillian sound delicious. if you do try something scandinavian, morten harket's solo stuff is definately worth a try. oh, and if you want something really out there, try female japanese rap act, HALI CALI, amazingly good!
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 5 February 2008 Posted 5 February 2008 We have our own music sung in our native tongue Aussie Bogan music - enjoy
James. Posted 5 February 2008 Posted 5 February 2008 DJ Krush introduced me to some excellent Japanese hip hop, in particular track two off his mix album Milight, can't remember the name of it. Then there's the fantastic Cuban group Buena Vista Social Club, their album is absolutely brilliant. I imagine most of you on here will have heard of them. I used to listen to quite a bit of French hip hop, stuff like Triptik and Les Sages Poets de la Rue, hip hop sounds surprisingly good in French.
Dr The Singh Posted 5 February 2008 Posted 5 February 2008 Punjabi MC - Mundian to Bachke The track is in punjabi, although what is known today as Bhangra is a Born and Produced in Britain!!!
Bellend Sebastian Posted 5 February 2008 Posted 5 February 2008 Super Furry Animals: Mwng A whole album of the lovely lilting* Welsh language, and unless I'm much mistaken the best selling Welsh Language album ever. You cannot go wrong with Serge Gainsbourg's 1960s stuff either * depending on your point of view
Uncle Albert Posted 5 February 2008 Posted 5 February 2008 Daniel Craig is in to German Hevay Metal. So if it is good enough for 007 its good enough for me.

Trav Le Bleu Posted 5 February 2008 Posted 5 February 2008 If you can get your hands on it (vinyl only I suspect, I have a original ), try this Ukranian John Peel Session - The Wedding Present or to give it its Ukranian title... Українські Виступи в Івана Піла Top mini-album, containing Davni Chasy, an old Ukranine folk song, the tune of which was nicked for the more famous song, "Those Were The Days" (my friend, we thought they'd never end... etc) Also L'eau Rouge - Young Gods and Young Gods Play Kurt Weill. (French and German respectively... they're Swiss) And of course, who can forget Mwng by Super Furry Animals, a superb album! Welsh
