86 and the hand of god, we were playing well and except for blatant cheating and sublime genius from Maradona we could have won it that year :angry:

We only picked up after the group stages we lost the first game 1-0 and drew the second one and won 3-0 to go through.

Italia 90 without a doubt, but Mexico 86 comes close.

But who has the most goals in one world cup final?

It was a French man, can't remember his name.

Paolo Rossi was 82 Raj - If you mean the one where he got the Golden Boot

Linekar won it in 86, Schillaci (I know what you're thinking... who?) in 1990

But who has the most goals in one world cup final?

I was 11!!!

Thats where tardelli scored in the final and turned around and cried and all that!!

Im sure it had Karl Heinz Rummenige in it too

USA '94 for me, because it was my first. The excitement of my dad waiting for my mum to go to bed before he would come and wake me up and sit downstairs with him for the later games was immense at the time. Salenko's five goal haul against Cameroon. Houghton's stunner against Italy. Saudi Arabia in the second round. An outstanding Nigerian team knocked out by Roberto Baggio's magic at the same stage. Maradona's drug shame. Romario and Bebeto, Hristo Stoichkov, Gheorge Hagi, Letchkov's diving header against Germany to put Bulgaria into the semis with Brazil, Italy and Sweden. And of course Brazil's first World Cup win in 24 years. Great memories.

Great memories - From that World Cup on, I remember always doing the Roger Milla trademark celebration whenever I scored.

2002 for me - Watching us beat Argentina on the big screen in town was quality. I remember someone buying a ball and hundreds of people were kicking it around. And the boring 0-0 against Nigeria with the 7:30am kick off!! We all gathered at a mates for it and a few pre-breakfast drinks. Just remember we had to rush off at the final whistle because we had a french GCSE exam to get too. :D

2002. We were allowed the morning off school for it, with the option of coming into school just to watch it with free breakfast. I remember when Nigel Martyn got subbed on we were all like "aaaaahh noooo!! not Nigel Martyn"

They've all been fun but not fantastic! The hype that surrounds us is ridiculous! Yet most of us buy into it!

2006 was great. Had some great nights when we played down Chalkies in Thurmaston. Next time round I'll be 19 so that changes a lot! :P

Disagree - I think that's true now but the 78 finals had everything...cheating, flair, majesty and ticker-tape goal celebrations. It was a larger than life event that contained some of the best goals ever seen (Archie Gemmils mazy run, anyone?). And the final? Awesome. The skill of Holland, the power and determination of the Argies, the officials with substantially larger bank balances.

Magic.

If anyone gets the chance to see the DVD - have a watch.

Talking about 1982 has reminded me of that challenge assault by the West German keeper on Battiston in the France v West Germany game.

The ref awarded a goal kick to West Germany!! He didn't even have a word let alone a red card!

From Wikipedia;

Battiston is particularly remembered for the 1982 FIFA World Cup semi final in Seville, when France faced West Germany. He came off the bench in the second half, and after ten minutes of play, following a through ball by Platini, Battiston was clear through the German defence racing towards goal. The German goalkeeper, Harald Schumacher, raced towards Battiston as the Frenchman took the shot, missing the goal. Schumacher leapt into the air, twisting his body and colliding with Battiston. In the process Schumacher's hip hit the French striker's face. Battiston, clattered, fell to the ground unconscious, with damaged vertebrae and teeth knocked out, later slipping into a coma. Emergency medics had to administer oxygen on the pitch. Michel Platini later said that he thought that Battiston was dead, because "he had no pulse and looked pale".

The referee did not give a foul, let alone send Schumacher off. Schumacher then proceeded to take the goal-kick and play resumed. After winning the game, the goalkeeper caused more controversy when he was told that Battiston had lost several teeth, and replied: "If that's all that's wrong with him, I'll pay him the crowns."

Schumacher later apologised in person to Battiston, and the apology was accepted by Battiston. In his autobiography, Anpfiff, published a couple of years later, Schumacher said the reason he did not go over to check on Battiston's condition was because a number of French players were standing around Battiston and making threatening gestures in his direction.

1990 my 1st and we went so close, & Gary Lineker :worship:

With a manager that had been vilified, huge clamour for his ousting by "fans" and the media...and one of the best examples why you should stick with managers in order to generate consistency of approach and to build something positive.

1998 for me.

That Argentina game was the best I've ever seen and when owens goal went in it was unbelivable can remember watching it in a big hall with our footie club.

Also the build up to the final with the Ronaldo - will he/won't he play. Then Zidane winning it with those 2 headers.

I remember after 98 every one in my primary school would go to ground playing football and attempt to kick some one in the way Beckham did.

Safe to say i was the one who skidded along the ground attempting it and cut my face up.

It's Just Fontaine with 13.
Fontaines got the record, I'm pretty sure of that.

All present and correct

My fav too.

I have followed Brazil in a big way since these days and although they didn't win it, their match against Italy was awesome and they had some real great players. It was mainly just before the influx of Brazilians into Europe and there was an auror of mystique or even surprise which is something we dont get these days as we know all the players because most of them play in our league or in Europe at least!

Zico, Eder, Socrates, Falcao, Serginho, Júnior, Toninho Cerezo etc. Anyway they were my fav Brazilian squad but even Englands was alright. Scroll down the list to have a look at some of the players....

Germany 06 cos we made it

I went to the Aussie vs Japan match at Kaiserslauten and got speaking to a fair few of your fans , really good craic , plenty of Ashes banter etc , they said "you wait till your lot come over to ours , we will spank you 5-0 "How right they were :giggle:
