Samilktray Posted 23 April 2008 Posted 23 April 2008 That missed penalty will cost Man Utd qualification to the final i feel.Ronaldo has proven he can't cut it on the big stage, he hasn't preformed as well in the games against the big 4 in the Prem and missing a penalty tonight will only give his critics more ammunition. He needs to prove he can cut it in the big matches which he hasn't done so far, before i feel he can deserve winning world player of the year. He will probably win it anyway but doesn't deserve it. What utter bollocks.
Stuliasz Posted 23 April 2008 Posted 23 April 2008 I defy anyone to name one player who could possibly be considered to have been better than Ronaldo this season.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 23 April 2008 Posted 23 April 2008 I defy anyone to name one player who could possibly be considered to have been better than Ronaldo this season. I tell you what, if it wasn't for that damn ankle...
Koke Posted 23 April 2008 Posted 23 April 2008 Some **** like Del Piero, who's also having a good season, could go and score 15 goals at the Euro's and then start the new season in a storm, and nick the player of the year award. Unlikely I know, but just saying.....
WetFlannel Posted 23 April 2008 Posted 23 April 2008 This was always going to descend into a Ronaldo discussion. Oh well, I might aswell have my say. I think he will win world player of the year, but I think it seems a bit hollow. I know a lot of people will disagree, but what other usual contenders have sparkled this season. Messi - Injured for a portion of the season. Henry - Shadow of the player he was in previous seasons. Ronaldinho - Gone off the rails. Lampard - Seems to have disappeared completely. Torres - Wasn't used at the start of the season regularly. The list could go on. Obviously he deserves the credit but I think its a shame that no other real contenders are really pushing him for it. Whatever happens from now until the end of the season, I cant see anyone else really going to step forward and challenge him for the title.
RowlattsFox Posted 23 April 2008 Posted 23 April 2008 It wasn't completely Ronaldo's fault that he was ineffectual tonight, he hardly seen the ball. Ferguson was far too negative tonight, he had plenty of attacking players on the pitch and an away goal was definitely there for them if they wanted it.
Corky Posted 23 April 2008 Posted 23 April 2008 I would rather see Barcelona win it. I just can't stand Man Utd or their fans, not the proper, down-to-earth ones, but the plastics who are in your face all the time and won't ever shut up about it if they win it. Also I've never bought the idea that because I'm English, I should want them to do well in Europe. I don't want them to do well in the league, so why should I want them to do well in Europe? To all Leicester fans who were around when Notts Forest were winning the European Cup, did you want them to win it? Were you pleased when they did, just because they are English?
C-man Posted 23 April 2008 Posted 23 April 2008 I keep hearing that Ronaldo never turns it on in big European games. Has anyone actually realised yet that Fergie's tactics are different and much more defensive in Europe, and that his tactics somewhat limit Ronaldo's talents? What Messi did tonight, whilst I was watching (I got bored), was great. He didn't overcomplicate things and played some sublime football at times. Still, the facts are there that Ronaldo has 28 league goals (31 games) to Messi's 9 league goals in 24 games, thus I know who I'd rather have in my team.
placidcasual Posted 23 April 2008 Posted 23 April 2008 How the **** is that penalty trying to be cocky? I never said the penalty was cocky. I said Ronaldo was a cocky little twat. Which is a slight difference.
Koke Posted 23 April 2008 Posted 23 April 2008 I actually felt sorry for Rooney. Stuck out on the wing and was instructed to play as a defensive winger.
lildave3 Posted 23 April 2008 Posted 23 April 2008 I never said the penalty was cocky.I said Ronaldo was a cocky little twat. Which is a slight difference. Ah, sorry.
Uncle Albert Posted 23 April 2008 Posted 23 April 2008 I actually felt sorry for Rooney. Stuck out on the wing and was instructed to play as a defensive winger. Personally I think the signing of Tevez has been one of the reasons Rooney is having to play out on the wing and also why we arent seeing the best from him.
Unit Posted 23 April 2008 Posted 23 April 2008 if utd won i'd hav egot 30quid off a 3quid bet, fooking sterline beat st johnston as i wished. pff.
Ultra Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 I actually felt sorry for Rooney. Stuck out on the wing and was instructed to play as a defensive winger. He didn't look fit. United are probably nursing him for the next two games. Too many players bottled it last night - Ronaldo and Carrick in particular. Just as well Henry only played 15 minutes. In his prime he would have taken this tie beyond United already. As it stands, Ferguson's bizarre Gary Megson impression could still cost him dear if Barca nick an away goal.
Ultra Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 I defy anyone to name one player who could possibly be considered to have been better than Ronaldo this season. Someone who helps his team to trophies at club and/or national level? Luca Toni could be a contender, especially if he has a decent Euro 2008.
SamL Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 Poor game, good result for Man United. Shame Ronaldo missed the penalty. I wouldn't mind an all English final.
Joe. Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 United will like that result a lot. Although Ronaldo should have stuck his penalty away, Barca had a couple of chances too but they struggled to break United down in general. Messi is a joy to watch. Easily Barca's best player of the night, he rarely put a foot wrong all game.
Manwell Pablo Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 Someone who helps his team to trophies at club and/or national level?Luca Toni could be a contender, especially if he has a decent Euro 2008. Well United looks odds on to win the Premier League and are in a good position in Europe and if im not mistaken he's playing in Euro 2008 as well. He'll win it, hands down.
purpleronnie Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 Poor game, good result for Man United. Shame Ronaldo missed the penalty. I wouldn't mind an all English final. I think it was a good result for Barca they only need to draw to get through, Man u have to win, I can see barca scoring and going through.
Maybes Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 Its a good result for both teams, in what really was a terrible match. United clearly had been told to sit behind the ball and play on the break.
dandannieldanok Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 United will like that result a lot. I'm not too sure about that, Ferguson has gone on record to say he dislikes drawing 0-0 away from home and not getting an away goal. I think secretly he'll be quite miffed, especially considering they had the perfect chane to nick a goal.
placidcasual Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 I think it was a good result for Barca they only need to draw to get through, Man u have to win, I can see barca scoring and going through. Barca need a score draw to go through. A 0-0 and it goes to penalties.

I see where you're coming from but I think before the game he'd have taken a draw at the Nou Camp.
