People who tweet old news.

See this all the time. Is it really that hard to look at the date of an article, there was one of Nigel Farrage's plane crash from a couple of years ago circulated a few weeks back by so many people. Christ alive.

Student in having classes to attend shocker.

With 4 hours of nothing to do in between, I'd rather have a lesson or two

Couldn't be bothered to start a new topic about this. Religious fanatics at it again in the States. Anybody who thinks our country is backwards only need look over the pond.

That's a pretty narrow minded view of the US. Just because some people find homosexuality a sin doesn't mean everyone does. The first amendment protects the right to free speech no matter how hateful.

No-one is denying them their right to speak. It's not an infringement upon a person's freedom to say you find their views offensive.

Not fair to judge a whole country on the views of a few extremists.

That's why I said Religious Fanatics and not the entire nation. The point about being backward was aimed at them also. Although, as a general point I do think America is very backward in many ways, but that can be expected from such a vast nation with varying cultures.

The Human Rights Act and European Convention allows for freedom of speech, and freedom of thought conscience and religion, but that still needs to be balanced against the rights and interests of others.

Webbo got my point

Sorry, what?

You made two points in your post - not judging everyone and the importance of being free to speak. I was talking quite specifically about the second one, I don't know how anyone could've missed that.

Fairly sure hate speech is a crime, so that's not true.

Have you spent much time in the US or with Americans?

Not here... not without imminent danger or some such criteria.

Well then America is a country that gives more rights to white supremacists than to homosexuals - I fail to see how it isn't backwards

How exactly does it give more rights to either?  They both have the right to be equally vile and hateful, it is just not very likely.
