Big day for British tennis tomorrow, Murray seems under Lendl to have that bit extra mentally especially when things get tough and I think that is what will bring him through to win in 4.

So..predictions for today, then?

I'm roughly in agreement with FR above. I think that though Raonic has proven himself to be a most capable grasscourt player these past few weeks, Murray will (like in the Queens final) will be able to neutralise his serve and groundstrokes after a tough start.

Also, I think that the sense of occasion as well as possibly a bit of lingering fatigue from the semi-final might conspire to give Raonic a tough time, too....so with all of that taken into account, I don't expect this one to really be that close.

Murray in straights, possibly 4.

Yeah Murray in 4 for me too and wouldnt be surprised to see Raonic take the first.

Bookies seem to favour Murray in straight sets.

Surely Hingis was around for more of Serena's career than Graf's but yeah I do see your point.

Speaking of also ran female tennis players, whatever happened to Safina? She was no 1 for a while but never won a Slam.

Depends how you view it. In actual chronological time on tour yes, Serena was around in the mid 90s but but was a kid for most of it and not really a contender I think she can of won a couple of slams at most before Hingis's injury. There was probably only a year or two in which the two really were at the top of tennis

Where as Hingis and Graf were at the top of the game for about 5/6.

That said, he doesn't need to, to win a set at this stage.

You'd favour him in a tie break but it honestly looks like he'd need to win three on the spin to win this match.

He does now. lol

Tie break was his best chance but Murray is doing enough on raonic serve.

When your returning tactic is wait for a second serve and cream it as hard as I can your always gonna struggle lol

The greatest compliment I can give Murray is that he has made winning Wimbledon - the whole damn thing - look routine this year.

He has never looked in any danger (not even against Tsonga, regardless of the set score) at any point in the entire tournament. And I might submit that the same would be true if it were Fed or Nole on the other side of the net today, also.

Truly sensational stuff, let's not take his success for granted.

He ain't played anyone has he.

We all know no Nole he'd of won about three times as many grand slams. Very consistent in slams

He's played the kind of folk that anyone else on the Tour bar Nole and Fed would have problems with (Kyrgios, Tsonga, Berdych) and dealt with them all pretty brutally, in pretty much the same way Nole would.

Like I said, he's turned winning Wimbledon - the Holy Grail of tennis achievement for a British mens singles player, lost for so long - into something akin to a quiet knockabout at the local park.

Andy Murray is so overhyped. They say he is a tennis legend, are you serious? He's only won two grand slams... Two. Ok if he wins today, thats three. Three grand slams is nothing compared to the greats of tennis lol.

Also he is always moaning and bitching, just smile and get on with it you scottish tit.

37 titles in total...

Yep nothing

FYP. And with a fair few more to follow - can't see anyone other than Nole stopping him for the next seven or eight Slams, especially with Ivan back in the coach box.

You can tell it's that two weeks of the year, can't you?

Yeah but you have to remember Murray is really not that far off noles level, and is better than fed anyway. He makes mince meat out of all of those players normally, berdych probably has the best record, I've lost count the amount of times he's beat tsonga and I don't think nicks ever beat him.

He'd make winning grand slams look routine all the time if someone was nice enough to knock Djokovic out for him.

So you just look at the number of slam titles and nothing else do you? If you seriously think Murray is on the same level as Warwrinka it shows how little you actually know about the sport.

Yeah probably not in terms of grand slam wins.

I'll tell you one thing for free though, the only player that is in the top four all time grand slam winners list that didn't have Murray playing at the same time as him is bloody glad that was the case.

He's had nadal fed and Djokovic to contend with his entire career and has still won 2, hopefully soon to be three slams, and a shit ton of masters tournaments.

Edit: oh yeah let's not forget the Davis cup and a Olympic gold medal

Let's get a few things in perspective...

1.) He's a pale Scottish boy, so he's got a genetic disadvantage to the likes of Mr Feddy, Rafa and Novak

2.) The existence of those 3 characters has made it a much tougher period to dominate - especially Novak, given how exceptional he is

3.) The supporting pack seems a bit stronger than in the days of Sampras and that.

4.) He's worked and worked on his game to get himself to this level - much respect needs to be given to him for that. He's just kept improving.

I get that his demeanour might not be likeable, but let's not have that cloud the guys considerable achievements.

He'd bury Sampras more often that not on hard and clay courts if you ask me, he'd give him a good go on grass as well, some might disagree though.

With federer and djockovic on the way down Murray has a lot of years to win many more majors, can he stay ahead of the other players coming through! He has shown consistently over the years he is one of the worlds best
