I'd be interested to know if his record on that is any worse than, say, Djokovic, given that Djoko's style has been very much to outlast his opposition in match and tournament too.

Fair point that I need stats to back that up. I did a Google search and couldn’t quickly find anyone who had done the research to write this up. Here’s one example slam though. Djokovic best Murray in 4 sets in the 2016 French open final. Djokovic during that tournament played 23 sets, Murray 28. Murray was taken to five sets in both the first and second round by Stepanek and Bourgue. Now you could argue Novak was always going to be the favourite, especially seeing it was on clay, but energy levels are surely got to be a factor

I'd certainly agree that dealing with "easier" opposition in a more forthright fashion may make later rounds easier because of energy expenditure, I'm just not sure how critical a role it would have played compared to other factors.

In any case, it's good to see him doing well on grass again, hopefully he can make the 300-odd ranking point jump he needs to be seeded for Wimbledon.

Fancy winning every slam at least three times.

What an athlete and what a player.

GSM Murray - obviously not the strongest field, but considering his main issue has been recovery after matches its promising to have seen him win a couple of tournaments in recent times.

Novak Djokovic GOAT Will of steel.

Funny isn’t it. I said a couple of years ago on here somewhere he’s clearly the GOAT but for whatever reason doesn’t seem to quite get the plaudits. I suppose it’s because he’s not likeable? But based on pretty much every single metric he’s the best ever. Absolute phenomenon. I don’t like him either mind, and certainly nowhere near my favourite player but should go down as the GOAT no question.

He doesn't fit the narrative or know his place - Federer is meant to be the GOAT, but it's a results business and the facts say differently. But it is known how many people feel about facts.

Yeah. Federer is like everyone’s favourite guy. And he’s a phenomenal player too. In fact in his prime I’ve never seen anyone look so effortless. And, you know, he’s just got a nice face. Seems a good bloke. Everyone loves him. But aye, Djokovic has more Grand Slams, a better head to head, more weeks at number one, etc. It’s not really even up for much debate. But he’s a nob haha.

And Serbian too. I mean Swiss isn't ideal, but Serbian is definitely more suspicious.

NOTE - THIS IS GENTLE SATIRE, NOT ACTUALLY MY POINT OF VIEW.

His nose is the size of a small South American republic tbh.

I suppose it depends on the what the greatest means.  Is it just the results or is it more than that? Style of play? Personality? Interaction with the crowd?  Greatness is more than just being the best player I think, and that is why he struggles to be seen as that.
