Oh Dear!!

Thats not Thracian back tracking again is it?

I've praised Fryatt loads of times for his contributions in the reserves and have been absolutely consistent about my belief that he would score quite well in Division One.

It's not just a case of referring to his Walsall record either. His general abilities are more suited to Division One than The Championship.

I really hope you are right Thrac. I've not seen the reserves or any training sessions, my opinion of Fryatt is based on the first team matches, and he doesn't fill me with confidence, even at this level.

We shall have to wait and see I suppose.

Not too impressed by the result as Notts County beat these boys a few days ago.

Although the purpose of the excercise was to improve fitness.

I think this is probably our strongest XI from what i have seen so far this pre-season, only with Mattock coming in a left back.

Encouraging to see Fryatt scoring again and also pleased that DJ made an impact coming off the bench, as i can see that being his most effective role next season.

Disappointing to concede two further goals though.

Looking forward to seeing the team play away at Luton.

Fryatt - 2 goals in 2 games, i hope he can keep it up!!! In my opinion he should be our first choice striker and play alongside A Chambers

At any level strikers thrive on confidence and having a decent supply of chances. And with Gradel, Adams, Porter and Dyer creating, in stark contrast to the barren supply lines of recent season midfields, I can see all our strikers flourishing.

Any one asking about The Sappleton, hes got a Thigh injury.

ahhhhh, well that explains it then, possible that he may play a part in the new season if only a wee bit.

he asked about Hayes not Hayles

 Damn that La Chasse du Pape :D - Hayes has been told he can go too...if anyone is dumb enough to take him.

It's still not back to back wins :D. Hinkley & Olimpija Ljubljana should have been easy

I don't read too much into the friendlies, although I worry that were letting in alot of goals, Pearson has enough time to get things right!!!

Friedlies mean fcuk all.

Its all about fitness and the new players getting to know each other and realise EXACTLY how crap Steve Howard and Fatty Fryatt are(Not to mention the other numptees who helped relegate us last season!)!!!

OS has updated the match report, seems like their equalising goal in the last minute was actually an own goal...doesn't say who did it though. I'm guessing Rowe-Turner as he's shite and that would be excusable as he won't (hopefully) be playing in any real matches for us, ever.

It's taking PR a bit far when they don't even name an own goal scorer for fear of being critical! :D

Rowe-Turner was subbed after 70mins for Chambers

by Bill Anderson in Slovenia

A freak last-minute equaliser by the home side was a fitting end to Leicester City's bizarre 2-2 draw in their pre-season friendly against Olimpija in Ljubljana last night.

The Slovenian side took the lead early on with an offside-looking goal and the game threatened to unravel completely when, after 15 minutes, City striker Steve Howard appeared to be sent off for disputing a free-kick awarded against him.

Both sides protested at the decision, reminding the referee of the usual pre-season convention that an offending player should be substituted rather than dismissed.

After a long delay, Howard was replaced by DJ Campbell, who followed up Matty Fryatt's equaliser by giving City the lead with just six minutes remaining.

However, Olympia drew level in the last minute as the ball was deflected home in the crowded goalmouth following a corner.

City manager Nigel Pearson was pleased at how his players reacted to the early controversy by knuckling down and taking control.

He fielded four of his five new signings in the starting line-up with Aleksander Tunchev and Michael Morrison forming the central defensive partnership - and it looked good.

Kerrea Gilbert played at right- back with Nicky Adams featuring on the right-wing in a 4-4-2 line-up. which was altered only four times, apart from Campbell's enforced switch.

Paul Henderson was in goal, James Chambers at left-back with the centre midfield comprising Matt Oakley and Radostin Kishishev with Levi Porter on the left .

The game was originally meant to be behind closed doors but news leaked out on the day and the match drew an attendance of a few hundred, who certainly made themselves heard.

City had an early penalty claim when Fryatt was tripped in the area, but it was not given.

In the seventh minute, former Portsmouth winger Mladen Rudonja, looking offside, was allowed to run on and score the opener as City appealed in vain.

Then came the Howard incident which caused City a lot of frustration, but they settled down and Morrison headed over from an Oakley free-kick.

Campbell also looked to be tripped in the area as City established a wealth of possession.

Campbell had a fine attempt well saved, Oakley blasted over the top from 20 yards and the 1-0 deficit stood at the break - but not for long after it.

Two minutes into the second half, Fryatt rounded off some neat build-up play to level and, moments later, had another chance smothered after Campbell put him clear.

On the hour mark, City sent on wingers Max Gradel and Ashley Chambers for Adams and Porter. And, when Campbell slotted home a fine finish in the 84th minute, it looked as though City had got what they deserved.

But, just when Henderson seemed to have secured victory with a great save from the dangerous Rudonja, the resulting corner from the right deflected into the net for a stroke of luck for the home side.

City: Henderson, Gilbert, Tunchev, Morrison, J Chambers, Adams, Oakley, Kishishev, Porter, Howard, Fryatt. Subs: Campbell (15 for Howard), Logan, Wesolowski (67 for Kishishev), Worley, N'Gotty, A Chambers (60 for Porter), Gradel (60 for Adams), King, Odihambo, Cox, Rowe-Turner (70 for J Chambers), Cisak.

Olimpija: Volk, Vugalic, Mitrakovic, Filipovic, Ceh, Karic, Paulin, Rudonja, Poplatnik, Berektarevic, Sculac.

God if he had actually started we might have lost!

Okay, he had a bad game against Hinckley and he's definitely got plenty to learn but that doesn't make him the Devil incarnate. Nor the automatic fall guy for everything that goes wrong.

Perhaps the real problem lay in not having Gerry Taggart there to focus players attention! :D

You can't look too much into friendlies otherwise MON would be pulling his hair out at Villa losing to lower league opposition. The match report says we put in a good performance we hd the lions share of possession, but at the end of the day we should just view that as a training game. A couple of things do concern me though. Towards the end of last season I thought Howard was going to get sent off more than once for arguing with the ref, and he was doing that in the game yesterday. I can see a few unneccarsary reds coming next season if he's not careful! Secondly yes Fryatt scored but also missed a 1 on 1 chance. For a striker putting them away is your bread and butter so he must improve!

Fair point but everyone keeps going on about last season!

We all know last season was a mess, it was the day the clueless Martin Allen was given the job, after that it just got worse!

I agree a lot of the bigger names didnt peform well but i think it was the club as a whole that was a mess and no one peformed on or off the pitch.

I think Oakley is a prime example, he wasnt great for us last year but he hasnt just become a bad player, a fit Oakley next season will be a class act in division 1 and as ive said before about Fryatt, if given a chance and he gets fit and confident he could be a big assett in this League.

I like the way Pearson is going about is business, not mouthing off and being the joker like Allen and Ollie!!

I also think he will get the blend right in the side with the experienced lads and the youngsters.

Lets just hope and pray he does and let him get on with it and get off the players backs!

My money is on Rowe-Turner for the OG too.

He doesn't look like much of a footballer.

Actually he's just shit.
