It reminded me of a Beckford thread I once read, created by FT's own Beckfordologist. I was going to use it in context, but couldn't be bothered to have interact with the fooltard for numerous pages of said thread(s).

Reminds me of this passage from Bill Bryson about Aussie skateboarders "Having nothing better to do, I followed the sounds to an open square where half a dozen adolescents, all in backwards facing baseball caps and baggy shorts, were honing their modest and misguided skills on a metal railing. I sat for a minute on a bench with a morbid interest, watching them risking compound fractures and severe testicular trauma for the fleeting satisfaction of sliding along a banister before being launched by gravity and the impossibility of maintaining balance into space in the direction of an unyielding pavement. It seemed a remarkably foolish enterprise."
