14 years after it was first identified, which is my entire point. The 2008 article from my previous post literally says they were planning to have it up and running way before 2020. 14 years of Tory rule later and it's only just starting to be built , and energy is the highest in Europe (because of Tory privatisation and Brexit).

Yet again, it was a decade and a half of dither, delay, missed opportunity, destruction, corruption. All of which has cost us extremely dearly and will be costing us for decades.

Its clear you aren't in the planning of major infrastructure projects so I understand why the conjecture and confusion.

On the positive you have acknowledged that it is being built and it wasn't all on Milliband. Also that the Tories didn't achieve 'absolutely nothing' when on the subject of Nuclear power.

Interestingly Labour were in power for 13 years previously, how many Nuclear power stations were constructed in this period I wonder? (Hint - it took 9 years after their energy white paper until EDF proposed the idea of Sizewell C).

Back on topic. Milliband doesn't deserve to be in this thread.

They were focussing on renewables at the time and stated there wasn't the economic case for it. Blair changed his mind towards the end of his term and the plans for new sites accelerated under Brown. See my reply to Kenny a few posts above.

We also had more than enough capacity because we had about 16 nuclear sites/31 operational reactors in 1997 serving a much smaller population than we do now - the population only grew by about 3 million between 1997 and 2007. A few of those reactors were reaching their end of life in the early 2000s which is why Blair changed their strategy in the mid 2000s and planned to build 8-10 more to have them operational by the late 2010s.

In the 15 years since Brown was voted out, the Tories failed to get a single one of the 10 identified sites built, while at the same time allowing the population to grow by 7 million (thanks for their uncontrolled immigration especially since Brexit) making demand far higher with a diminishing capacity and a reliance on imports and global volatility, while also failing to build enough renewable sites (onshore wind and solar) and allowing the cost of energy to skyrocket to the highest in Europe.

No but I would argue the bacon sandwich does.

Its interesting that you have omitted the amount of increases in wind under the tories which wildly outstripped anything Blair managed while focusing on renewables. Some of my team spend a long time focusing and not much doing, so perhaps he was one of those?

You are right to suggest our electricity prices are high. They are above the EU average, though lower than Germany and Ireland. (Top 3 is highest isn't it?). We could chose as a country to lower them by changing the way the prices are calculated and no government appears to want to do this. Ive never understood why, but I assume that it brings in too much tax at the higher rates so they cannot afford for it to happen.

Casualty Reduction officers stopped this vehicle in Sunbury yesterday after spotting a passenger not wearing a seatbelt. Further checks revealed a shocking list of offences:
No MOT, No Tax (VEL), No Insurance, Dangerously underinflated rear tyre, Faulty brake light showing white light to the rear, Driver had no driving licence & Vehicle on false number plates! The vehicle was seized for forensic examination. The driver has been summonsed to 🧑‍⚖️ for all offences, and the passenger was issued a ticket for not wearing a seat belt.

Casualty Reduction Officers are specialist police officers focused on road safety. Their primary mission is to reduce the number and severity of road traffic collisions. They achieve this through a combination of enforcement, education, and engineering.

Nah, much better to generalise, draw petty differences and continue in a cycle of vengeance and division that doesn't end until the obvious and predictable outcome.

.... right?

Classic whataboutery.

The point being made is that this individual should never have been granted asylum in the first place.

This country took him in, housed, fed and cared for him, then he commits this horrendous act.

We have enough home grown vile scum criminals, we don’t need to be importing anymore.

That wasn’t the point.

The point was that none of these illegals immigrants portray a danger to a society they shouldn’t even be a part of do they
