My wife and I were discussing this earlier.

How do dogs in hotter countries cope? We came to the conclusion they’re more acclimatised to it!

A friend was having a difficult time mentally with stress at work so decided to take his 2 dogs for a walk. This was Monday.

He returned home an hour or so later. His mind was so preoccupied with what was going on at work that he forgot the dogs were in the car.

About 15 mins later he suddenly remembered and went to the car to get them both in.

They were both dead. :(

That is, so, so sad.

Report to which authorities?

Animal welfare act 2006. Police and RSPCA.

And the owner is suffering too. Not just with his job but the guilt and grief from losing his 2 best friends. He's pretty much alone now.

Is that enough for you?

I imagine the person responsible is besides themselves with grief. Maybe that's punishment enough?

I totally agree there needs to be accountability and trust me, I have extensive experience of irresponsible dog owners.

Often terrible things happening are the result of a perfect storm of outside factors that can't be controlled leading to human error that wouldn't happen in other circumstances. It can be difficult to assess that by a third party, though sometimes there is a very clear lack of care.

So it’s not been passed to the RSPCA and Police then?

Should nothing happen then just because it was only a couple of dogs that were in the car?

Trust me, I do too. There’s no excuse for what’s happened here. RSPCA and Police can both make referrals for the guy while also assessing whether this should go to the CPS or not.

Theres clear precedents for this. Sentencings have happened, orders to prevent that person owning dogs/pets again and fines.

The MH and stress are mitagations, not defences.

I rarely agree with your posts, but unfortunately your last paragraph is correct.

It is correct - an extreme example is the guy who stabbed 3 people to death in Nottingham had MH issues, he isn’t let off because of it. I feel sorry for the guy but to leave two dogs to die in the car and then nothing is done about it? Doesn’t sit right with me.

Are you saying that because he's your mate and you know his circumstances he shouldn't be prosecuted?

Would you have the same view for anyone else who made a mistake?

He's not my mate. I was merely relaying what my SiL told us. She knows him, I don't.

I'm glad you wrote 'extreme' example because comparing a guy that forgot 2 dogs in the car to someone who butchered 3 people is pretty mad

Hence extreme? Nothing to see here but thanks for the reply.

Maybe if you were a dog owner you’d understand the severity of it.

It was a classic case of moral grandstanding, nothing more..nothing less.

Whoever knows about these dog deaths needs to report it.
