Libertine Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 Finally just seen Fryatt's 1st and 3rd. Missed them earlier. Both brilliant. Our defending was awful though, especially for their first. Good finish though..
Lovejoy Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 Have to be honest, I doubted Fryatt as much as anyone arguably, so I hold my hands up and say how impressed I've been this season. I don't care what people say, he was complete and utter shite over the last 2 seasons, and did have ample opportunity to prove himself up front in the Champ, but credit must go to him, his teammates, and his manager, for this astonishing season he's having so far! Good work Matty !

Makes you wonder if he could manage the same hit rate against a defense who know their arse from their elbow doesn't it?

This is his stamping ground. Like Billy Sharpe.
eye666 Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 I think that if a) we get promoted and b) Matty stays with us, he will do well in the Championship. We have a better midfield than last season (not difficult - this is based on having Dyer in the side for starters) and if we did go up and added a player or two to that midfield and another striker, think he could do well. Would like to see him and Lambert from January...

I think we should sign him on a long contract now, let him score to get us promoted say 25 goals, and then sell for a stupidly inflated price to Roy Keane when Sunderland get relegated next summer.
carterfox90 Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 well done matty what a great time to start scoring when your contract is being talked about excellant barganing points just make sure you sign it pronto
Raj Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 He can only score against the defences put in front of him and thats what he is doing. Some of our other 'strikers' cant even do that!! Well Done Matty...19 goals by December and still people dont like him!!!
demon_dog Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 Having been one of the most critical of Fryatt on this Forum, I will be man enough to put my hands up and say "Well done" to him. I have strongly critiscised him for his lack of pace, inability to score simple tap ins or when one on one, his reluctance to pass the ball at times when players are in a better position. It seems as if he is happy playing at this level, whether he could take this up another step to the Championship I don't know. All I care about at the moment, is the fact that we have someone scoring goals, that will hopefully take us out of this hole called Division One. Long may he keep scoring. p.s. Looks like I'll soon be buying you a couple of pints Thracian.
saddlerken Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 Exactly the same things still being said about Matty Fryatt on here as was said at Walsall when he first popped up on the scene Prior to playing in our first team he had a record of more than a goal a game in both the reserves and in the youth team. He twice topped out goal charts in his first proper years as a pro despite us having a manager who hadn't got a clue about anything (Merson) Lack of pace they all said Selfish they all said No vision they all said etc etc etc etc etc The lad is a goal machine, absolute goal machine, churns them out, has always scored and always will, doesnt look pretty but he scores goals Questioning whether he will score goals in the Chamionship, course he will given the service and a team that isn't struggling, he's only 22! peak in 3 or 4 years, he'll bag loads, I would be doing all I can to hold on to him if I was you let the facts speak for themselves Good luck to Matty, he was one of a number of players that we will have to sell, shame we didnt see him at his peak
Ultra Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 Fair play to the lad. A tally of 19 goals by the end of November is impressive at any level. OK, so the goals have been scored against League 1 sides or lower, but as Howard and Campbell among others have found, goals don't come automatically even against teams of that standard. Credit must also go to Nigel Pearson, who persevered with him when some previous City managers barely bothered, and helped him rediscover his confidence and his form. If Fryatt stays fit, the City individual record of 44 goals for the season is well within his grasp. I wonder what the odds would have been on that at the start of the season?

Daggers Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 Whereas you never said we should ditch him in the summer eh? I did. I've never been more wrong. (Not including the accident seven years ago...but how can something which feels that good be so wrong?)
marbelladave Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 Last season Fryatt was dreadful in a truly awful side. Pearson took one look at him and uttered the the most banal of cliches, "Shape up or ship out". For once the cliche was right on the money in every respect. Fryatt took it on board, got interested, lost 10lbs and started to remember how to play, he, as much as Pearson deserves credit. He is making goalscoring at this level look easy, which suggests that, in a decent side he will be more than effective in the championship. Whether he has the skill and more importantly the pace to make it in the big league is open to debate, but at this level he is priceless. Get him signed up!
clazkel Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 I know Fryatt didn't have a great season last season but i honestly thought when he played, even though he wasn't scoring we were more creative and looked more like scoring when he played. Megson seemed to stick with him and i thought he was looking fitter and sharper than he had before, then Holloway come in and didn't favour him at all. Even though the team last season was awful, when Fryatt played i felt he looked a better class (when Megson was boss) than the other players in the team. I know people wont agree with me but thats how it looked to me. Got to get his contract sorted. I think we would be lost without him, the only player i think capable of replacing him at the club is Ashley Chambers, but i think it would be back to Howard and Dj up front

Im surprised you have gotta buy him a beer after he slated him all summer saying Dodds deserved a chance instead of him, hence my bet with him. He said Dodds would score more than Fryatt over the season, i think if Fryatt broke hios leg next week and Dodds played every week for Port Vale i would still win! Just let me know Thracian when your ready to get your wallet out!!
Asha Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 I really really want Fryatt to sign the a contract, and soon. But also that MM gives him a reasonable offer. Saying we could just bring someone in is all very well, but Fryatt knows the place now, is in incredible form, and we therefore need to keep him. I would be confident in finding a replacement for Fryatt is he does leave, except I end up thinking about the strikers we've bought in recently. I'm talking since we signed Fryatt... Danny Cadamarteri, Carl Cort, Barry Hayles, Steve Howard and DJ Campbell to name a few. Not exactly prolific strikers. What's to say we would actually bring in a 'goal machine' if Fryatt left? Finally we've got a striker at the club that looks like he's just going to keep on scoring...signing Fryatt up long term should take high priority at the moment.
Simi Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 If Fryatt doesn't sign a new contract, I can see the suicide rate rising by at least 300% in Leicester.
Corky Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 I've never seen a better finisher before, he's far too good for League 1, Premiership player, future England international. These are all quotes that I've heard from Leicester fans since January 2006.
Corky Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 Danny Cadamarteri is miles better than Fryatt. Danny Cadamarteri du du du du
