Thracian Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 To Nigel Pearson... ============ a) For taking us to the top of the League! b) For doing so playing proper football c) For giving us wingers like Dyer and Adams. d) For having no truck with contradictory claptrap in the media. e) For not fielding eight defenders. f) For playing a balanced team. g) For not making pointless team changes and substitutions. h) For having the courage to attack even away from home. i) For signing exciting yet focused players. j) For allowing those players to express themselves. k) For bringing the best out of players who had once looked like flops. l) For signing a footballing centre-back in Tunchev. m) For showing faith in Gradel and King. n) For getting everyone to work together. o) For getting the team properly fit. p) For giving our club its dignity back. q) For giving our fans renewed and justified pride in their team. r) For not insulting players or criticising them in public. s) For spending money wisely t) For keeping the chairman quiet u) For saying little but doing a lot and quickly. v) For not sitting back when we take the lead w) For not signing anyone who didn't deserve the shirt. x) For managing with both common sense and authority. y) For making it fun to be a fan again. z) For earning people's respect, including mine. I well know you'll make mistakes and that I'll doubtless chuck in some criticism when you do. I also know that we've won nothing as yet and that we've not even got the guarantee of promotion. But none of that negates the above which has in itself, when all put together, amounted to a monumental achievement considering the circumstances when you took over. I just hope that as a club we've learned a lot of lessons now that we'll not need to learn again.
Unabomber Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 He has done an absolutely top job so far, it is hard to argue with any of his decisions, he has good a good bunch of players playing well and winning, while keeping low key and not pissing off the chairman. Keep it up Nige! Oh and good post there Thrac
Daggers Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 t) For keeping the chairman quiet Odd. The silence is almost scary - my money is on a new manager before Halloween.

Bert Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 Thrac you are really freaking me out now. STOP TALKING SENSE I'm not sure i can cope.Good post. N. Was a good post tbh. Thought you had him on block?
lookwhaticando Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 Odd.The silence is almost scary - my money is on a new manager before Halloween. I'm a little scared. He's not said much at all publicly for months now.
MC Prussian Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 My only hope is that we'll continue playing like this - wishing for more positive comments from Thracian... The contrary would be quite a bleak perspective.
chesterfox Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 Thrac a legend in the making - top post only one thing to say we are top of the league say we are top of the league!!
harpendenfox Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 I strongly agree with all the positive sentiment in this thread. It was a joy to watch us try to play some constructive football last night. I'm in no way taking for granted automatic promotion this season, but old habits die hard and I'm keeping a close eye on the Championship. Some observations: 1. Interesting to see that the three teams promoted from league one are struggling in the Championship 2. Four of our back five last night were loan players 3. Our strikers should be good enough for league one, but is that their ceiling? 4. Is our centre midfield sufficiently resolute? All I'm saying is this. We've made a great start, and seem to have adjusted to life in league one far better than most, and certainly I, feared. After Huddersfield away we visit Oldham, then entertain Walsall. Huddersfield are improving, whilst Oldham and Walsall are up there with us. I think these next three games will be a very good test for us and our early season credentials. Two wins and a draw would be great. Two wins and a loss would be no disaster on the 'two points a game will take us up-o-meter'
purpleronnie Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 Have to say I think most managers would get us top of this league the real test is if we go up.
davieG Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 Have to say I think most managers would get us top of this league the real test is if we go up. That may be so but I think it's the manner in which he's attempting to do it that is impressing Thrac, well it is me.
Munzie Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 Could he win 'Manager of the Month' award twice in a row? Would he/we want it (given the inevitable result it normally inflicts on the following match)?
davieG Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 This team from the last two games have only played this many games (X) for LCFC, I know it's only Division 3 but I think at any level it's remarkable how well they are doing especially the defence who've only racked up 36 games for LCFC between them. One of the many excuses for our bad performances in previous seasons has been how many changes were made to the team by each manager well if you include King that team has 8 new players in it, either we've been very lucky or NP has considerably greater skills at getting a team to play together as a unit than the previous incumbents. When you also consider that our style of play is totally alien to the previous 4 or more seasons then the achievements are even more remarkable. Martin 8, Gilbert 9, Tunchev 6, Hobbs 7, Powell 4, Adams 2, Oakley © 27, King A 13, Dyer 8, Fryatt 74, Howard 31. Subs not used: Henderson, Wesolowski, Morrison, Gradel, Berner. All those in bold are new to us this season,

All those in bold are new to us this season, I'm full of praise for both Pearson and the team so far. Had never really thought about the lack of 'team time' given the above numbers - but as you say, this makes the results to date even sweeter considering we should only get better, the more the players gel. It will be interesting to see what impact the injury returnees have on the starting eleven and the lead up to the January window. With three loanees (in the above line-up) and a short term contract for Powell, will Pearson be forced to make changes to his ever-gelling team or try to retain status quo. (queue pop group responses - so many jokes so little time )

spencfox79 Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 we know powell is'nt on loan he was talking about hobb's gilbert and martin being the 3 players on loan
Babylon Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 we know powell is'nt on loan he was talking about hobb's gilbert and martin being the 3 players on loan Why did he say four then?
harpendenfox Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 Why did he say four then? My mistake. Three on loan and one on a short term contract (I believe). My point simply being that I'm really hoping we have stability at this club, with two or three changes per season, rather than nine or ten, in the future.
blueoveru Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 Tunchev & Powell are giving our defence a solid look..... the youngsters around them are learning quickly...... but something still has to be done about our midfield
harpendenfox Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 TUNCHEV 6POWELL 4 Sorry but I have to scratch my head over those two estimates These are the number of apperances they've made for the Club thus far.
OneHorseVillage Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 TUNCHEV 6POWELL 4 Sorry but I have to scratch my head over those two estimates Games played I believe. Edit: What he said
Daggers Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 I'm a little scared. He's not said much at all publicly for months now. I thought he would have been in the Mirror commenting about the failed USA bank rescue package - but no!
davieG Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 I thought he would have been in the Mirror commenting about the failed USA bank rescue package - but no! Or Pimpey's problems proclaiming how they were solvent when he left them.
General Smuts Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 I actually said to someone this morning that Peasons the best manager we've had sine O'Neill by a country mile. Now i know that isn't a particularly brassy claim considering the shit weve had since but i still think its the truth and i can't see anyone finding any reason to think otherwise.
