I think that's more a statement about Britain's desperation to cling onto some sort of past, imperial glory and boast a triumph over the world etc. We did the same with Steve Redgrave.

Nobody should be fooled into thinking this has made the British public like either cycling or rowing. Y'all just like winning.

True, although I'm biased because I like professional cycling anyway.

Rowing, Cycling, athletes never seem to be enjoying it and if they win, nobody really cares about it.

They just seem to put themselves through hell! It doesn't look fun.

The olympics has gone a long way to disprove this, Chris Hoy's been knighted.

Yes he has, but how many more people are now following cycling? The only time we see or hear about them is during the olympics, even the World Championships recieve little media attention.
