Alf Bentley Posted 3 February 2009 Share Posted 3 February 2009 http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2009/...scouting-report I'd have rated his heading a bit higher and his passing a bit lower (still fine, but a few go astray when opponents put him under pressure). Certainly works hard for the team and must be one of the players at the club with the most energy and stamina. Interesting that Claridge reviewed him as part defensive midfielder, part conventional midfielder. Admittedly, the report was based on an away match and conceded that he became more attacking as the game went on. I'd like to see him make a few more attacking runs to the edge of the box when we move forward. Given that he has a good long shot and is strong in the air, he could develop into a player in the style of Bryan Robson or David Platt (maybe Jimmy Bullard, for younger readers). Of course, he might never be that good (ability to pass consistently well under pressure would be my main doubt), but he looks to have real potential. In the short term, he could get 1 or 2 more goals if he makes more forward runs and someone like Dyer puts crosses into the back of the area for his late runs. loverofinsanefox Posted 3 February 2009 Share Posted 3 February 2009 Good article, but as mentioned previously I would have rated his heading a bit better, however I suppose Claridge hasnt been following him as close as we have. Is it just me that gets a little frustrated when details in articles are not entirely correct? Surely it wouldnt have taken much for Steve to find out Andy had already played for Wales U-21 too? Maybe thats me being picky tho
Thracian Posted 3 February 2009 Share Posted 3 February 2009 Cue Thracian. If I'd written that I'd have been "inventing things" or showing "a ridiculous bias I'd have never had for anyone else". In reality it's a thoughtful assessment and, as an introduction to his abilities, refreshingly observant. Being fair though, quite a lot of fans now seem to appreciate his value to the team, even when it is quietly stated. A key point of the assessment is reference to his not diving in for tackles if it is at all avoidable. Althouigh not so much now, people have complained about him "not getting stuck in" but, to me, being over vigorous in the tackle today is a certain way of conceding potentially dangerous free kicks for no justifiable reason. King tackles well enough but generally shepherds people into less dangerous areas and Leicester have benefitted greatly because he, and others, don't concede unnecessary free kicks and therefore don't give the opposition free access to our box. Specialist defenders have been rightly praised for dealing with attackers but the disciplined cover in front of them, not just from King, often means City concede very few opportunities in a match from which the opposition are likely to score. Agree with another poster though - his heading is usually a bit better than reported and quite important to us at times.

STUHILL Posted 3 February 2009 Share Posted 3 February 2009 Top article about one of our promising youngsters. Interesting valuation too. I wonder if other clubs are noticing his qualities and early signs of promise. Looking forward to see how he does in the Championship.
C-man Posted 3 February 2009 Share Posted 3 February 2009 Must say I missed that bit! Perhaps he's referring to "lasting the pace" cos he surely isn't talking about his speed. I'd say his one-pace nature was his only major problem. I have to say he's probably my favourite player this season.
Koke Posted 3 February 2009 Share Posted 3 February 2009 King has done well. 9 goals in 33 games for a midfielder is great. Certain aspects of his game needs improving though i.e. he goes missing big chunks of the game and he sometimes cannot handle opposition who play a strong physical game. He's only 20 so I'm sure he'll improve over the coming years.
