Kitchandro Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 Already happened: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/simpsons-actress-marcia-wallace-dies-651092 That didn't stop it though - they just retired her characters Yeh but she only had one main character. Shearer has loads of very popular characters. If it wasn't shit enough now it would be massively shit without those ones.
kingcarr21 Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 Even then they could just re-hash their past lines, like South Park did with Chef. That South Park episode was brilliant
Stadt Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 I wish they would have made another Simpsons hit and run first
Voll Blau Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 I wish they would have made another Simpsons hit and run first What a game. GTA for kids.
Head Honcho Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 Currently watching the Robin Williams film Awakenings on telly and heard a voice...it's only Marge.

Wymsey Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 It's a shame they're running out of steam slightly and not releasing any more episodes relevant to current/up-to-date topics etc.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 It's a shame they're running out of steam slightly and not releasing any more episodes relevant to current/up-to-date topics etc. Although obviously more adult orientated, I think this is where Family Guy has triumphed
Webbo Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 Although obviously more adult orientated, I think this is where Family Guy has triumphed There have been couple of really poor series of Family Guy. It's not what it used to be.
Jimothy Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 Although obviously more adult orientated, I think this is where Family Guy has triumphed Think Family Guy has more scope to do as they like. Must be difficult writing the Simpsons and trying to find new ways to be funny when you can't be too outrageous. Family Guy can basically do what they like, was talking to a mate earlier and saying some of the jokes they get away with are unreal. Telling jokes about Michael J Fox's Parkinson's, or Mr Herbert being a raging paedophile. You could never tell those jokes in a family show like the Simpsons.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 The Simpsons doesn't need to be outrageous but the new writers just don't have any ideas For me by far the best episode is Homer's Enemy (Frank Grimes). I read about how one of the writers just had an idea for making an episode from a point of view of a person who'd never met Homer before and being outraged by someone's incompetence at work. The whole episode worked perfectly - it wasn't adult or gruesome, or have to relate to any current affairs, just a classic episode stemming from a basic idea. New episodes are just trying to out-do each other, and they try to shoehorn too many ill-fitting celebrities in. Very rarely do I laugh at the new episodes, the last laugh-out-loud episode I saw was when Homer discovered he was really good at hairdressing. Again, a simple premise and some great laughs made it a brilliant episode
Webbo Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 There's been about 500 episodes of the Simpsons. I think they've just run out of ideas. Might be a good idea to rest it for a couple of years but there's too much money involved.
separator Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 They should do an episode with Homer jumping over a shark.
AyewJoking Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 have they made an episode where marge becomes a robot yet?

Again, a simple premise and some great laughs made it a brilliant episode No it doesn't need to be outrageous, but what I'm saying is when someone compares it to Family Guy, that's why FG is still going pretty well why the Simpsons is struggling. The Simpsons have pretty much exhausted all the possible ideas they can do, and they can't do episodes that are outrageous, offensive and off the wall like FG can. I mean if Bart or Lisa suddenly built a time machine and started to be hell bent on world domination people would think it was shit for a family show, but FG can get away with that kind of stuff due to its more adult nature. Another example being South Park, which I don't watch regularly but when I do still seems to hit the mark. They can pretty much do as they like because it's an adult show. The Simpsons needs to have a heartfelt message in most episodes, it's just got to point where there's nowhere else to go.
