Spain vs England

I'll be accused of bias - but I thought Spain had the capacity to dominate, they just played most of the game in second or third gear. They stepped it up for brief moments and showed true class but England never really pushed them into trying any harder.

One of the least threatening England sides I've ever seen.

Missing our two world class creative players to be fair. And stalwart centre half.

May not have won with them, but I think we'd have given them a better game.

I agree though, Spain may not have dominated with regards to chances, but they were well in control. They retained the ball so easily and well and all 11 of them set up to defend when they didn't have the ball, really restricting how much creative chances we had in the final third.

I did only see the last 30 mins though haha.

I personally thought it was easy for Spain. They hardly shifted gears. The way they moved both on and of the ball was a pleasure to watch.

I am sure Fabio will roast them and get it right for the next games.

Without a doubt.

Missing arguably our best players in each department though. Ferdinand, Gerrard and Rooney. At least with these 3, we might have put up a bit more of a fight.

To sum up what I thought:

Spain played beautiful football and tore England to pieces resulting in us playing helpless and inept football until the final few minutes. Spain showed their class and highlighted our clear lack of skill in MANY departments.

But we didn't do too badly...

I think Rooney's hugely overrated, he hasn't really developed as a player at all - which is a surprise under Fergie. You look at the progress players like Ronaldo and Park have made under him and you wonder why Rooney never quite flourished.

But he's a chav little twat - and chav little twats hate being defeated. And that's exactly what England lacked, really. Someone to get worked up and kick the Spanish, get frustrated and play with 100% effort.

What he lacks in goalscoring lethality he at least brings in pride and passion.

Shame Defoe's injured. Was Bent in the squad?

Apart from this period whilst Rooney has been injured, Man Utd have always dropped points when Rooney has been out for a period of time. His temperament still has a lot of improving, which is his main problem right now.

Muy bien :D

Donde estan los hijeputas k vos iban a ganar?

Es obvio no? Tenemos talentos como Carlton Cole y Peter Crouch. Como que no vamos a ganar?

At times it was fantastic!

Thing was they didn't need to be in top gear the whole way through as they were so in control... but when they did up the tempo, they were brilliant and made England look hapless.

lol the only thing that's obvious about Crouch y Cole is they're never likely to be on the winning side upfront together.

Outclassed by a much better team. Every single spainish player looked so comfortable on the ball and rarely made any errors. Thats the difference.

What's it like to feel like Wales?

Whaaaaaat's it liiiike to feel like Wales?

Small country in Scotland - you're just a small country in Scotland...
etc.

Everything about that team last night struggled to be classed as second-rate, no department exonerated itself.

If he was English I'd say the same.

In-fact all current English referees bar Howard Webb and Pedro down 6-aside are shit. (Yes Danny, this includes you)

I am proud to say I am half Spanish after last night. As Maybes said they looked so good on the ball. Alonso's pass for Villa's goal was super sexy. Apart from that mistake I thought Jagielka was alright and Carrick was decent enough.

Heskey won so much in the air compared to Crouch, Crouch done sweet sod all.

Downing what a Goon. Wright-Phillips was alright I thought.

We were outclassed by a very good Spanish team.

Xavi is just absolutely superb.

SWP was maybe our best player, Crouch & Lamps both had shockers when they came on.

As I said near the beginning Spain weren't playing us they were playing with us, they could have stopped for their La cena and we still would have got our just desserts.

Just shows the gulf in class between us, and how little technical skill we have compared to top international teams.

I think the referee has had a good, low profile game so far.

He was shit.

Mike Riley a continental referee? What the hell are you on about?

Only because you referee some U12 girls games doesn't mean you know everything there is to know about referreeing.

lol

Friendlies mean nothing but that was embarrassing. We we're predictable and easy to play against.

As for the Beckham debate, caps dont mean as much as they did back in Moore's day - Phil Neville has 50 of em!!

Until SWP or whoever starts to perform then we should play Beckham.

I thought Spain struggled to close down a very ordinary England team.

OK they walked it but a full strength England team would've had few problems dealing with last nights spainish performance.

The starting midfield for England last night was the poorest I think I've seen.

Would you have said that if we'd won.

Friendly or not we aren't good enough.

Plus it was near enough a full strength spain team so was a good chance to see how far we've come under capello; no-where near enough yet it seems after last night
