MPH Posted 12 May 2009 Posted 12 May 2009 IF MM is genuinely hoping to make it up to the prem the season after next i dont see the wisdom in buying him for 1.5m
Tuna Posted 12 May 2009 Posted 12 May 2009 Too old at 29. Wouldn't spend that much money on him. Don't rate him. Rather have Sammy Clingan. Better and much younger.
TrickyTrev Posted 12 May 2009 Posted 12 May 2009 Like the idea that he is a good passer of the ball; adds some more quality. Ex-United as well, not always but most of the time gives some credability too... John Curtis. I would be loathed to play £1.5 millions for a 29 year old that has spend his career in the lower divisions. I am not saying he is a bad player, he has looked good every time I have seen him play, but it aint value for money.

I am not saying he is a bad player, he has looked good every time I have seen him play, but it aint value for money. Come on, 29 isn't exactly old for a player. But you're not likely to get more than 3 years out of him, so £1.5m isn't a great investment (unless he got us to the Prem!).
Koke Posted 12 May 2009 Posted 12 May 2009 £1.5m is a lot of money for a 29 year old who has played one season in the Championship. We can buy Tunchev 4 times for that amount of money. Forget Wellens I say and let's explore the foreign market again.

Forget Wellens I say and let's explore the foreign market again. We could only buy Tunchev twice but i know what your saying and i agree. It does seem a lot of money, but i back NP to make the right decisions.
Ricey Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 He used to be ace on CM01/02. So on that basis, sign him up!
morris1234 Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 yeah 1.5 would be a bit much, but for those who did, you cant just say oh lets go to europe and sign somebody cheap. ok..............europes a big place, narrow it down a bit!
Jon the Hat Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 He used to be ace on CM01/02.So on that basis, sign him up! I was thinking that
flanimal Posted 14 May 2009 Posted 14 May 2009 They seem pretty keen on Wellens, I think for £1.5m we should go back to Bulgaria! For sure!
General Smuts Posted 14 May 2009 Posted 14 May 2009 Think he's more of a central midfielder... Shame.
bluebeau Posted 14 May 2009 Posted 14 May 2009 £1.5m is a lot of money even with the backing of MM, 'cos we do need several new players bringing to the football club However, what bothers me is, why at 29 yrs of age has the guy not made the grade with a bigger club? Having said that, I trust in the judgement of our chief scout Steve Walsh & Big Nige, they haven't done a bad job so far!
Leicfox Posted 14 May 2009 Posted 14 May 2009 I've seen Wellens play loads of times for Blackpool and there's no arguing he's got skills, but he's got one the biggest head's in football, thinking himself better than he is. Would i want him here ? probably yes, as his creative mind and distribution of the ball are excellent when he's on song, and maybe NP could knock the arrogance out of him.
flanimal Posted 14 May 2009 Posted 14 May 2009 Got a good shot on him. Scored some great goals for Doncaster Rovers last season.
Leicfox Posted 16 May 2009 Posted 16 May 2009 Doncaster chairman John Ryan has left the door open for Leicester to make a second bid for midfielder Ritchie Wellens.Rovers initially refused to confirm whether or not the Championship newcomers had made a £1million for the 29-year-old playmaker, but Ryan has now admitted that they have. And although he has turned down their initial approach, Ryan has not ruled out selling one of his prized assets. "It is early days," he told the Star. "All we are saying is that their initial approach has been rebuffed. Ritchie is a player we don't want to lose - we don't want to lose any of our players. "But I'm not saying that we wouldn't sell any player if the price was right and manager Sean O'Driscoll said that he could get an adequate replacement with the money available. "At least they are all under contract and we are not going to lose them without a fee like we did with Paul Green 12 months ago." http://www.comeonboro.com/matches/080917096.php
Guest Posted 16 May 2009 Posted 16 May 2009 Sounds more like he's worried his greediness has lost them the chance of a £1m
Fox92 Posted 19 May 2009 Posted 19 May 2009 Obviousley because I live in Worksop and go to college there etc, I have some mates who have season tickets at Doncaster etc etc. They really rate the lad. Apparently, he is wanted by Prem clubs as well and I'd take him for Leicester. However, £1million+ isn't it? Ridiculas. Don't think i would pay this for a 29 year old. I liked him ever since I had him on Football Manager 2006 and I really would like to see him at City............ for a reasonable price though.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 19 May 2009 Posted 19 May 2009 Good player. Combative and skilfull. Would be a welcome addition to the squad. Would be even better if he came in a car with Brian Stock in it as well.
DanTheFox07 Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 maybe 1.5million would be a reasonable price to shell out on this guy, ive heard some good things about him and in my opinion our midfield needs a lot of strenghthening in the middle of the park and on the wing. Experience in this division is invuable and we need to have a balance of youngsters mixed in around older heads to guide them through in some games next season. Well have to watch this space no doubt we will find out if pearson really wants him or he has a number of other targets in midfield??
Chairman of the Bored Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Talking of Brian Stock.... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ter/8056047.stm
Fox92 Posted 1 June 2009 Posted 1 June 2009 Too old at 29. Wouldn't spend that much money on him. Don't rate him. Rather have Sammy Clingan. Better and much younger. I'd take Sammy Clingan, good call
foxoffderby Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 Doncaster are interested in Leeds midfielder Neil Kilkenny. Could this mean they are looking for replacements for city bound wellens?
MarkDeVries Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 Doncaster are interested in Leeds midfielder Neil Kilkenny. Could this mean they are looking for replacements for city bound wellens? Maybe, just maybe. Then again I doubt we are the only club in for Wellens.
teblin Posted 6 June 2009 Author Posted 6 June 2009 Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson wants to sign Doncaster Rovers midfielder Richie Wellens for £1m Mirror
Salieri Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 Mirror Get him in. I don't think £1 million is wholly unreasonable for one of the stand out players in the Championship last season. We could get 3 or 4 very good years out of him and if he helps us to gain promotion to the Premier League within this time, then that fee would seem a snip.
