The Doctor Posted 7 June 2009 Posted 7 June 2009 http://www.soccervoice.com/n090624.htmEverton, West Ham, Liverpool and Ipswich in chase for Leicester defender why would they want mattock?
Jimmy Posted 7 June 2009 Posted 7 June 2009 why would they want mattock? young, English and loads of potential, neither side have a lot of left backs either (Liverpool are selling Dossena and Everton only really have Baines), plus they have their European "home grown" quota's to fill
MPH Posted 7 June 2009 Posted 7 June 2009 why would they want mattock? there are rumbles going on that UEFA are set to invoke a rule stating each club must have 6 home players in their match day squad. plus his promise plus the lack of young LB's in England make him quite an attractive proposition.
Pricey Posted 7 June 2009 Posted 7 June 2009 I would if Mattock was sold for £1.5m Dunno if he'd be that easy to replace though
unreachable Posted 7 June 2009 Posted 7 June 2009 The most intelligent comment on this thread. Was gonna say exactly the same. Your 100% right about Stearman too. Not a rightback thats why he was shite last season, played out of position by muppets like Holloway. Achieved great things at Wolves at CB this season. Today is linked with a move to Villa as a replacement Laursen in todays D Mail.... I think the opinions concerning Stearman's contribution to Wolves' promotion are overstated. He had 32 out of 46 starts and 5 substitute appearances. He was not first choice for the latter part of the season and was dropped from the team when Wolves had a bad patch mid season. I'm unsure how much we can rely upon the "potential" of Mattock - I watched 30 of Leicester's games and thought Mattock was very average as reflected by match by match votes. We need a strong team to fight for promotion - the potential of players will not blind Pearson to the fact that Manderic will want positive results and that the team will need players with a track record at a higher level. In an ideal world it would be good to keep Mattock to see how he develops but perhaps that is not commercially sound. Pearson may view the priority to be raising money for strikers and think that selling Mattock now is the best use of the club's resources.
maddog Posted 7 June 2009 Posted 7 June 2009 Dunno if he'd be that easy to replace though In NP i trust. Mattock hasn't got better in the last 2 seasons, he is worth selling at that price.
Jimmy Posted 7 June 2009 Posted 7 June 2009 maddog you know feck all as you seem to think D.J. fooking Campbell is vital for us to succeed next season

That could show that when he wasn't playing, Wolves had their bad patch?
eaststandtom Posted 7 June 2009 Posted 7 June 2009 mattock is still only a young player an at aged 18 can only improve. it is important he has the chance to fulfil his potential here at leicester city. he has shown good promise and i would say an 18 year old is permitted a few dodgy performances in whatever division his team are in.
Big Ol' Bob Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 Wouldn't be surprised if West Ham were back in for him, get him cheaper than last time, and they only have Ilunga at left back.
fosse25 Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 i would keep him i just don`t think we could get a player of the same or better at the min to join us
artursteppe Posted 8 July 2009 Posted 8 July 2009 Daily Mirror 'Football Spy' says Milan is ready to sell Joe Mattock for £2m. Now I have often thought that Milan uses the mirror to publish stuff he wants to be in the market place. Sometimes it is true and sometimes done to mislead people. It is a clever ruse to make things happen. If I am right, Milan has done this to advertise Joe Mattock. I, personally do not want to see him go, but we do need a quality striker, or two - and that is the secret for automatic promotion. Wolves last season only got promoted because they had a number of very good strikers - apart from them they were average.

If so, I can't see this rumour being true. But to be fair, I couldn't give a toss about Mattock. £2 million? Seeeee ya!
Steven Posted 8 July 2009 Posted 8 July 2009 According to the Mirror, Mattock can leave for £2million.

Also, pearson said that 1 or 2 players may yet come in and 1 or 2 may yet leave (mattock and DJ?)

"1 or 2 to leave (mattock and DJ ?)" - yes possibly, but has everyone forgotten all the other players in the current squad who have been rumoured to leave this summer (and I think they're all still here - perhaps someone can confirm ?): Wesolowski - just why is NP so keen to let him go, surely he hasn't seen enough of him (unless the medics say he can't 'hack it') - I think he could still do a job and be an important squad member ? Hayes Adams Logan. I'm sure there are others, but I can't think of them at the moment ! PS I've just had a look at the OS to refresh myself - and seen that Hayes is not mentioned (when did he go ?), but Sappleton's still listed and Levi (I think he's still with us - if not 'with' NP !). A dodgy source I know - they still have Bruno (N'G), Edworthy and a few others who've long since gone !

I think we've all seen enough of Weso to know that it isn't going to happen, he just seems too injury prone and we have enough midfielders that he wouldn't be missed and it would save on salary.
flanimal Posted 8 July 2009 Posted 8 July 2009 Mattock will get ripped in The Championship. For £2m, I'd get rid. Yes, he's from Leicester - but he's an average player. He may well improve, but do we really want to wait around for 5 years until Mattock's starts to place well? That left-back area could be the deciding factor in Leicester getting promoted.
Jimmy Posted 8 July 2009 Posted 8 July 2009 How can you say he'll get ripped in the Championship, he played in it before and didn't get ripped at all. Mattock seems to be the latest "hated" player, it doesn't matter what he does people just want rid when there are worse problems in our team/squad. Most importantly we aren't going to get someone of similar age and ability for less then we'd sell Mattock for which makes selling him a stupid thing to do because we're giving money away to basically have the same type of player. As for left back being the difference between promotion or not, don't be ridiculous, left back wasn't our problem last season or the year before, it was a lack of creativeness in midfield

I'd describe it as 'falling asleep - normally at key moments in a game'. When he does this, it's easy to put the blame on him rather than the team ethic but that's how it goes. He cost us at Blackpool on that freezing day in February if you're of a fickle nature I suppose. Fell asleep for both goals. Last season he disappeared on many occasions and I was happier having the legend that is Powell playing the position instead. Having said all this, just where are you going to pick up a replacement from if he is sold? We had this conversation two months back. Just stick with him, he will improve.

Definitely keep unless its an offer to good to refuse.
