teblin Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 Ipswich are lining up a £2million swoop for Leicester defender Joe Maddock. In the sun today, Keane has been after him for a while, was linked at sunderland too. Wouldn't be bad business, if we could get another left back afor less and use the cash elsewhere.

If Cox is valued at 2m, Wellens 1.5m, N'Guessan around the 1m mark, surely Mattock who is younger and has the potential to get better is worth more than 2m? I know football has no logic however!!

Well how much "potential" does Cox have, what is he 21 and scored 30+ goals last year and is valued at £2m... where as Mattock struggled to be our first choice left back.
surrifox Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 his England under 21 credentials won't have done any harm
lou Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 Honestly cant see Mattock going to Ipswich. Why would he wanna go there? Could see him going to a Midlands club or a smallish Prem club maybe even Villa but Ipswich? Nah I dont think so If he did though Id be happy with £2m
AmericanScott Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 Ipswich manager Roy Keane is lining up a £2m bid for Leicester keeper Joe Mattock. (The Sun) So he's being used as a keeper now? Saves us some money i 'spose.
Matt Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 I'd normally say sell, I think he is good and ok, but overrated by some people - I do think he is used so going to make mistakes and has alot of potential though, but at the currently time I feel people do overrate him, however on this occasion i'd say no, 1) To Ipswich? and 2) If you believe the rumours we were offered more from Villa and West Ham. Just thought didn't Keane want him when he was at Sunderland? Or was that Stearman? I've forgot, Think it was probably Stearman actually.
davieG Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 Who are all these better LBs than Mattock that we can pick up for a few ££££s.
foxoffderby Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 Wouldn't sell him for 2mill, based on age and potential. Had a bad season ok thought powell was better. He can improve. See how he gets on nxt year. But I standby him.
billyfox1 Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 Don't mind him going as long as it help funds a better replacement
Filbert_Ross Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 Who are all these better LBs than Mattock that we can pick up for a few ££££s. got to be some out there that can actually defend.
Guest Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 Seriously, has he really been THAT bad this season to all those who say get rid of him? I say hang on to him personally
Filbert_Ross Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 Seriously, has he really been THAT bad this season to all those who say get rid of him?I say hang on to him personally I just dont see why people rate him, its not that he's awful its just that he's not that good.
breadandcheese Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 I'm not in the camp that says Mattock is failing to live up to his potential. He's young, learning his trade and probably won't come good until 25. However, we have options at left-back with Berner so I'd sell him for the £2m to invest in other areas of the team. Sell him to strengthen.
leftsideoverhere Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 Don't want to be a selling club. Haven't seen many left backs better than Mattock - with potential to improve also - who are likely to be available. And certainly not for less money. So keep him.
Dames Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 We'd be stupid to sell him. Especially as it would be hard to find someone better let alone someone who has the potential to be better. I believe that Mattock will have a better season this season tbh.
RowlattsFox Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 Don't want to sell him to Ipswich, think we could regret it. I think he'll still come good, probably not here though because people are quick to get on his back, if a side that are obviously better than us comes in then I think he could go but not to side like Ipswich.
Calum McDermott Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 No wonder younger players don't tend to develop that well at leicester and when they do they often leave. Its because of shit leicester fans getting on there back even when there 19 years old. Mattock is young and learning his trade, he may not have had a great season this year but he coped quite fine in the chamionship - proven by our defensive record being one of the best in the football league that year - hence us having offers for him for around 2m from a avriety of premiership clubs.
Mr Happy Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 We should keep Mattock IMO, hes a young local lad that shows signs of being a promising player and I think that with guidance from NP he will flourish here. Who are all these better LBs than Mattock that we can pick up for a few ££££s. I was thinking this too. Everybodies assuming we can find a better LB than what we already have but surely if this was the case they woudlnt want to play championship football, they'd be playing in the premiership Don't want to be a selling club. Haven't seen many left backs better than Mattock - with potential to improve also - who are likely to be available. And certainly not for less money. So keep him. I truly believe we have to start using our academy more. By developing our academy players it should help partially eliminate the need to spend ridiculous amounts of money on over-priced players. King, Gradel and Mattock are all successful examples this season of how our academy can produce the goods. Instead of selling these players lets continue to develop them and let them play first team football for us.

I dont recall anyone "getting on his back" at games last season? Unlike Dyer, Gradel and even Oaks & Howard who were subject to the usual name calling from numpties at home last season. Everyones entitled to an opinion..... Im happy to give him a bit longer but wouldnt be devastated if we sold him either. It doesnt make someone a "shit fan" not rating a player though.
General Smuts Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 Who are all these better LBs than Mattock that we can pick up for a few ££££s. CHRIS POWELL!
