Ultra Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Details here.. I'm really pleased to say that we've found a great talent to take over as our chief Leicester City writer.Rob Tanner will be joining us from the Birmingham Post and Mail in the next couple of weeks - he's been covering West Midlands football for the past decade. Following on from my earlier post, I can confirm that he is not a Leicester City fan. I got an interesting response to my post on this point, with 'readers' being split 50:50 on the importance of his allegiance, and journalists being 100% certain it was totally unimportant! In the end, I think the most important thing was whether or not we could find a great football writer. I had next to no City fans apply for the job which sort of made the decision for me, but it is clear that Rob has a good knowledge of football and it won't take him long to get up to speed on City. I'm really excited that we've got a new writer to go along with a new season in a higher division ... and we're planning expanded coverage including a 16 page sports supplement for every Monday. I'd have thought Mr Tanner can't possibly be any worse than dear old Bill. But given that the editor who appointed him is currently to journalism what Rob Kelly was to football management, I fear I may be mistaken..
Hitesh Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 I shall judge him on his articles and his quality of news stories!
CosbehFox Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Bringing back the 'Sport on Monday' supplement. Used to like that personally.
Joe. Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Can't be worse than Anderson. God forbid we might actually see an opinion from a journalist this time...
Kilworthfox Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 As long as they don't continue with the bullshit we have had ever since I can remember the that would be a wonderfully refreshing change
bluebeau Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Lets hope that he isn't a arse licker like Hans Christian Anderson was. Tell it like it really is, please or fend the football club or the players, fans & readers want to read the truth not bullshit & lies.
Flynny Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Mercury is an awful paper - as is most local news nowadays since nothing much in the way of reporting is actually done. Most of the interesting stuff that happens in the city goes unreported whilst journalists sit fielding phone calls from people who want to be in the paper and recycling press releases, and that goes for sport as well as news. I've heard more interesting bits and bobs my mate's picked up training to be a Special Constable than I have from the Mercury in about 10 years.

Quite possible. The Mercury's surrender to the self-publicists and lobbyists, particularly this week, has been appalling.
kperch Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Quite possible. The Mercury's surrender to the self-publicists and lobbyists, particularly this week, has been appalling. Hi Ultra - you want to come and talk to me about that? I'm always happy to meet to discuss.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Hi Ultra - you want to come and talk to me about that? I'm always happy to meet to discuss. Gissajob. I'll do it for free.
kperch Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Gissajob. I'll do it for free. Are you any good? Always looking for guest columnists or fans' views.

If you're interested please PM me. Thanks.

Trav Le Bleu Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 you could have got Thracian if you'd have been quicker you'd get a lot more words from him Quality, not quantity Zing! That's what my english teacher always told me, though I was a little confused as to why he was calling me Zing. Fez's match reviews are better than anything I've ever read in the Mockery - fact!

Granno Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Would be great to see Fez's reviews in the Mercury, a hell of a lot better than the usual tripe served up.

Fez's match reviews are better than anything I've ever read in the Mockery - fact! I wouldn't know about any match reports . I never read any because if I've been I know what happened, and if not I can't be arsed to read about it . It's a bit like reading about someone else having sex .
