I'm definitely in the 'pleased' camp with last night's thrashing of Swansea by Blackpool. It would take a major dip in our form for us to have to worry about Blackpool now - they are seven points behind, and we've got two games in hand which is massive at this stage of the season. Something out of tonight's game, and 'pool will need to win three games more than us out of the last seven, and I can't see it.

So for me, Swansea - who look our most likely playoff opponents, losing form, taking a pounding and perhaps shaking their confidence - is by far the best thing about last night's fixtures. Perhaps it will result in the swans falling out of the playoffs altogether at some point, perhaps not, but being able to cement our fourth place spot tonight, rather than having slipped down a place overnight, seems like a positive thing to me. Now fourth place is ours to give away, and it's just up to us to make sure we keep hold of it. Which in turn means we are that much more likely to have home advantage in the crucial second leg of a playoff semi-final.

Gannon to leave Peterborough

Peterborough have confirmed that manager Jim Gannon will not be renewing his contract at the end of the season.

Gannon, who became the Coca-Cola Championship club`s third boss this season in February following the sacking of Mark Cooper, had been offered a long-term deal to remain at London Road. However, the 41-year-old dropped a strong hint following Tuesday night's 4-0 defeat at fellow strugglers S****horpe that he would not be taking up the offer due to family reasons and that has been confirmed.

In a statement on the club`s official website, theposh.com, Gannon said: "Having given the matter considerable thought I have decided not to accept the football club`s offer of a contract to be the manager for the coming seasons."

He added: "I have enjoyed myself immensely over the last few months and I would like to thanks the chairman Darragh MacAnthony and Barry Fry for the privilege of working in the Championship with Posh.

"I am not driven buy personal or financial gain or a mechanical professional drive. I have become a devoted family man over the last few years and the separation from my family over the last season has created a big void in my personal happiness and contentment.

"Given that my partner is now pregnant and expecting our second baby in July, the need for their stability, security and happiness becomes increasingly important to me."

Gannon added: "I still have an important job to do for the remainder of the season in showing that the players and the club are much more capable than what has been previously shown, and that we are determined to use this period to prepare successfully for the new season.

"There is valuable work to be done over the coming months to ensure the successful return to the Championship.

"I would like to thank the fans for the wonderful support I have received during my time here and I hope I can give them plenty to look forward to for the future."

Yeah get in there Palace

Bastards.

However I can't blame Palace when we can't rely on our own team to do the job.

At the end of the day if we do the best we can in out games we won't have to worry what other teams do, on current form that isn't gonna happen though.

The Palace result was a great one for us. They have huge injury problems and seem to be sinking fast. We on the other hand are picking up points and we've only lost once in our last 7 and that was to a late goal away at West Brom. It's a shame we didn't hang on for the win against Coventry today we were the better side and deserved 3 points. We had a perfectly legitimate goal chalked off for no reason. Keep playing like this and we'll stay up no problem.

Looking increasingly like the bottom three will remain the same for the rest of the season.

Could be a very tense final day at Hillsbrough tartan, if you aren't completely safe?

excellent although it's boro and reading who we need to me most worried of. that said, 70 points (3 wins) should be just enough for us. surely we can do that?!? ours and blackpools results aside, it's not been as bad a weekend as it could have been

Another defeat on the road for Forest.

That surely ends their hopes of automatic promotion now, barring a catastrophic collapse from WBA.

Fantastic game of football for the neutral, thought Wayne Routledge was superb. Hopefully this could knock a bit of confidence out of Forest because they looked up for that and ended up getting owned really.

Absolutely! The last few results have been shockers for us. Scunny and Palace both winning. Typical the one time we want the Pigs to win and they blow it!

It's a good job we beat Watford and dragged them back into it! I'm praying we're already safe come the last day of the season! I think Plymouth are down along with Peterborough. It's surely too much for them to catch up now.

Our next home match against Bristol City on Monday is a massive one. We effectively only have a 1 point advantage over Palace because of our inferior goal difference.

We have:

QPR (A)

Bristol City (H)

Middlesbrough (A)

Pigs (H)

Cardiff (A)

Palace (H)

Palave have:

Middlesbrough (A)

PNE (H)

QPR (H)

Derby (A)

WBA (H)

Wednesday (A)

Watford have:

PNE (A)

WBA (H)

Plymouth (H)

Leicester (A)

Reading (H)

Coventry (A)
