  1. 1. Have the club sold out the fans for a few £'s

    • Not bothered - mine won't have this on and at least the club'll make a few bob.

Now let's wait to see what alterations the bastards make to the away shirt!

Did you ever feel you had been conned?

They knew about the sponsors name was going onto the back of the shirt back in January, but not a bloody word until kick of day!

I feel betrayed.... Its either sponsorless or it is not sponsorless, you can't frickin compromise Milan!

The fact is that clubs need sponsors, there's a reason why Barcelona have been the only team to go without one consistently in modern times.

It was their choice though, we didn't force the club into it.. as you say it is a principles thing.

This probably would have happened even if we would have got one of those cheesy slogans on the front, because the club wouldn't benefit financialy from that.

Forever Foxes and Jessops on the shirt, that would have been aweful

lol Appalling. Not the mere fact that there's a sponsor but as Babylon says, because it was the clubs sodding idea to give us this "fan's shirt" which was blank and then on the fecking day the season starts they spring this on us, it just shows more blatant disregard for the fans than going about it in pretty much any other way would have done. I think most fans would have fairly content if this idea had never been presented and the club had simple given us a fairly tidy new kit with a sponsor on the front. Or if they'd given us a blank front but just been honest about what they were doing. This is just blatant deception, bound to cause unrest about something not particularly important and I find it incredibly annoying.

If they wanted to make money but still think of the fans, why not just source a sponsor who was willing to pay a slightly smaller premium to have their logo redesigned for the purposes of the kit, to make it fit with the design of the shirt? Frankly, I'd rather that there was a sponsor on the front, I'm of the opinion that that sponsor on the back looks awful, it'd look BETTER on the front.

I agree with Babylon, the Jessops logo is not ugly, and it's a local business. It'd have looked reasonable on the front in my opinion.

It doesn't matter what shirts it is on, the club have once again pulled the wool over peoples eyes. We are all well aware of the money situation, but it was the clubs idea to go without a sponsor "for the fans", not ours.

I doubt this sponsorship will net us any more than about 50-75k MAX!!! Wow... who can we sign.

Maybe they did mislead us but the economics of running the club are shifting all the time. Remember a club is not just about players and if this deal means that ordinary people working for the club in off the feld capacities are either not made redundant or indeed maybe people leaving can be replaced then I'm all for it.

Calm down people, it's only on the matchday shirts. I don't see what the massive problem is. We moan about not being able to sign players due to lack of money, then moan when we get a sponsor on the back of the shirt.

It's not about having a sponsors name on the clubs shirt, it's about taking the supporters for assholes & deliberately deceiving us. De ja vue!?

It will be interesting to see what they say about it at the next FCC meeting....

So this was obviously what they planned from the start, wait till most people have bought they're shirt and then the day of the new season slap a sponsor on it.

Maybe, maybe not.

If you read the sentence that the quote is taken from, it is in the context of this being necessary so we can get a sponsor for next year, so no, that's not what it is.

If he'd just come out and said, 'Look we need the money for players' then that would have been fine. But he's trying to make up some bullshit excuse for it

Oh come off it, we are always looking for ways to increase income, that's the whole reasoning behind shirt sponsorship in the first place. The sooner that they get a deal for next season, the sooner they know how much money they will have to play with. If you think that they don't spend until the money is sitting in the coffers, then you're wrong.

It's the fact that they've said that the shirt was going to be sponsorless, and now it isn't that is annoying, not the reasoning behind it.

"The Jessops logo will feature on the back of the players' match-day shirts, but not on supporters' replica shirts."

Yeah just realised that after i'd posted. The link wouldn't work

I don't think it's that bad an idea. It doesn't really affect the fans in anyway and it wouldn't look too horrific as a main sponsor next season if that's the plan.

If we are that strapped for cash that an extra 50k or so is going to make that much difference, then we will be in administration next year.

"As part of the club's 125th anniversary celebrations, the club are dispensing with a commercial club sponsor and allowing fans the chance to decide on-shirt branding for the 2009-10 campaign.

The four choices have been drawn up following consultation with a variety of supporters and fans groups."

"The new kit features a one-off, commemorative club badge emblazoned on the shirt for next season, as part of the club's 125 year anniversary and will be sponsor-less for the coming season, for the first time since the 1982/83 season."

"Leicester City will leave the front of their home shirts blank as part of their 125th anniversary celebrations next season … after a resounding vote by supporters Foxes fans have decided by an overwhelming margin for the shirt not to carry any branding."

...Chairman Milan Mandaric said: "The fans have voted and we have listened to them." Next year our home shirt will be completely blank on the front. This was the overwhelming choice by our supporters and we are happy to accommodate their wishes.

...As part of the anniversary celebrations, the club will give away a substantial part of a traditional club sponsorship inventory to supporters next season."

Mandaric & the club lies again: I'm saddened that I'm neither upset, angry or surprised at this.

Mandaric is a cunt who never cared for this club beyond what he felt he could take out of it, which due to his incompetence taking us to League 1 will not be a lot. Fuck him. Fuck Lee Hoos too, the mendacious twat, for being someone who may be semi-competent at what he does but equally has no respect for the fans of this club.

My opinion:

1. As a shirt sponsor, Jessops and their logo is 10 times better than topps tiles, LG, Alliance & Leicester (although that did seem relevant to Leicester) and the Weetabix that was proposed a few years ago!

2. People who think this is an issue, wait until next season!! This is a 2 year shirt, like the last one, but next season it WILL have a sponsor on the front, and won't have the commemorative badge, even though the design of the actual shirt will remain the same. If you read into what has been said by the club all along. So the decision will come, do we all buy another (fairly similar) shirt next season just to keep up???

3. It may seem a bit deceptive by the club, but if you read into it all properly when it was announced, this should have been a bit obvious, especially with lots of other clubs now sporting sponsors on the rear of shirts.

Don't get me wrong, I can understand to a certain extent why people may be a bit upset, but I think anyone who didn't see this coming, or who doesn't see the problems next season, is a little nieve.

Knew this a few days ago. Didn't fancy saying anything 'cos I knew everyone would be PISSED off. lol

Does it matter that much then? Really?

Oh right I'm on C-man's account - doesn't matter.

Added poll a option - other than making us look slightly silly on matchdays I can't say it bothers me overly. It doesn't look good but I don't think we've been sold out, at least not any more than usual for a modern football club.

Breathtakingly thoughtless from Milan. I'm more annoyed because this aint really how I wanted to start the season, all these bad vibes. Oh well, maybe we'll beat Swansea and it won't seem like such a big deal (maybe that's what the club want us to think though?).

As somebody who works for Jessops, i am quite amazed by this audacious marketing plan to pull the company out of debt. Also wondering how they were allowed the cash to do this as a lot of people have been laid off over the past year to lower the wage bill and then they splash the cash on sponsoring LCFC, hmmm... as i said audacious.

As for the viewpoint of a Leicester city fan it isn't as bad as it could of been and it is only on the back (for now!) although i think on the bottom of the shirt would of been a better place as it looks like it contrasts with the players names on the shoulders.

Crapwell mentioned this in another thread, but I thought it needed hilighting.

The home shirts of Leicester City's players will have a sponsor after all this season – but only on the back. The club decided in January to have a sponsor-less home kit, as part of their 125th anniversary. But today they announce a one-year partnership with Leicestershire photographic retailer Jessops – for the back of the home shirt.

The Jessops logo will feature on the back of the players' match-day shirts, but not on supporters' replica shirts. Chief executive, Lee Hoos, said: "During the past few months, we have resisted numerous approaches from businesses to sponsor the front of the home shirt.

"Our innovative approach to giving the shirt back to our supporters has received an overwhelmingly positive response. However, there is a reality that next season we will be looking to source a main sponsor, so this ensures that we remain competitive within the market."

you cant get much more of a bare faced lie than this. this infuriates me... giving it back to the fans my arse...
