Fox92 Posted 28 September 2009 Posted 28 September 2009 We only signed him a couple of weeks ago! And, he's been on the bench for the last couple of games hasn't he? From what I recall anyway.
Guest Bilo Posted 28 September 2009 Posted 28 September 2009 Not too optimistic about this one, even with Boro in indifferent form. 2-1 Boro and the worst possible build-up for our first derby of the season.
maddog Posted 28 September 2009 Author Posted 28 September 2009 Without Tunch, 3-0 Middlesbrough looks likely.

Edmund Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/news/Leiceste...il/article.html Leicester City must be ruthless at Middlesbrough – skipper Matt Oakley Leicester City must produce a complete 90-minute performance to get a result at the Riverside tonight, Matt Oakley has said.Oakley admits City have not been able to sustain their promising first-half performances for an entire game on their travels this season and have not picked up the points they have deserved. At Sheffield United, Newcastle and Watford, City have started brightly and dominated proceedings, only to fade in the second half, and Oakley said they cannot afford for that to happen tonight against Middlesbrough. "We are aware of it and we are working on the training ground on a few things to eradicate the mistakes, but these things happen in football," said Oakley (pictured). "We have young players in the side who are looking to the older players to help them out. "We are struggling to put 90 minutes in and we need to be more ruthless and take the points. That is why I am disappointed with the points total we have got. "But before the season started I would certainly have taken where we are now." Middlesbrough will still be smarting from Coventry City's last-gasp equaliser at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday and their 5-0 capitulation to West Brom in front of their own fans the week before. Oakley confessed City would be studying video footage of that defeat to see exactly what Albion did so effectively against Gareth Southgate's side. "We will watch the videos and see what West Brom did to them to get the goals they did," he said. "But I think they will be strong. They have moved on from life with Stewart Downing and they have a lad called Adam Johnson who is doing very well for them. "They are striving and I think they will be up there at the end of the year." Striker Paul Gallagher said there would be no question of City going to Teesside just for a point. He said City would set out their stall to get the three points, even though they have yet to taste victory on the road this season. "We will go there like we have to other grounds and try to win the game," he said. "That is the mentality we have at this club, we want to win every game. It will be a big game and it is one everyone wants to play in. "Boro started off very well but obviously they were beaten heavily the other week, 5-0, but you never know in football and certainly not in this league. "Anyone can beat anyone in this league. We will go there and try to give 110 per cent and try to come home with a good result." http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/news/Leiceste...il/article.html Leicester City's Steve Howard would love to put one over Middlesbrough Every Leicester City player will be determined to return from Middlesbrough with a victory tonight, but for striker Steve Howard the desire to overcome Boro is even greater. As a devout Newcastle fan, there is nothing more the 33-year-old would love than to put one over on one of the Geordie's local rivals and he will have all of his family from the north east cheering him on at the Riverside. Howard has yet to score a goal this season but there would be no better timing for him than to register his first against Boro and on one of the biggest stages in the Championship. "Without a doubt I would love to put one over the Boro, but it is going to be tough," he warned. "They got heavily beaten by West Brom and it will be interesting to see how they respond to that. Hopefully we can give them a good game. "If you don't get excited by playing in big stadiums and big atmospheres you are in the wrong game. "All my family will be coming down from Newcastle. You get up for the local ones because your family and friends are coming. It is nice to play in the big stadiums like Newcastle's and Middlesbrough's, but you just try to do your best in every game and focus on that." Tonight's fixture is also special for City boss Nigel Pearson, who is a big favourite at Middlesbrough from his spell as a player with the club. Former Boro boss Bryan Robson signed Pearson for £750,000 in 1994 and he captained them to promotion twice and to three domestic cup finals before retiring in 1998. Pearson is playing down his return to the Riverside but he is not under-estimating the challenge his former club will pose tonight and he expects the current crop of Boro players to be challenging for promotion this season. "They are where they would expect and hope to be, they are up in the top reaches of the division," Pearson said. "It will be a tough game but it is one we are capable of winning if we are at our best. "We are going there to win the game, as simple as that, but whether we can do that is another thing. "I am sure they will be looking forward to the game and looking to get a home win, but it is a game we want to win. "But it doesn't matter if it is Middlesbrough, Preston or anyone else. It is a tough league and we have already seen a number of results which reflect the swings in this league." http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/news/Bruno-Be...il/article.html Bruno Berner backing Leicester City 'underdogs' to bounce back All the pressure will be on Middlesbrough tonight when Leicester City run out at the Riverside, defender Bruno Berner believes. An away trip to a side that has recently come down from the Premier League and are among the favourites to bounce straight back up may not be the best fixture to face straight after the disappointing home defeat to Preston on Saturday, but Berner says it is ideal. The Swiss international defender thinks the weight of expectation will be firmly on Gareth Southgate's side, especially after their 5-0 drubbing against West Brom in their last home game and the manner in which they threw away a two-goal lead at Coventry City on Saturday. Berner believes Boro may still be suffering from a hangover from their home shocker against Albion and City could take advantage. "I still think there is some damage there from their last home game because they were smashed against West Brom," he said. "I prefer a game like the one at Middlesbrough to bounce back more than any other. They have just been relegated from the Premier League but they were heavily beaten in their last home game. "The pressure is on them. We will go up there as underdogs and there is a chance for us. "The only pressure is that we want to get back on track, we want to recover from the Preston defeat and we really want to get something out of the game." Boro have conceded seven in their last two games, but City have also not been as solid as they usually are, having conceded three in the second-half at Watford and two against Preston on Saturday. Berner said he was unsure why a defence that was previously so sound was now so vulnerable, but stressed they had to return to their miserly ways quickly. "We are concerned by the number of goals we have conceded in the last two games," he said. "We have to improve very quickly because we had a decent start and now we have had a little setback. We have lost a bit of our compactness we had in games before. "Even if you don't have the momentum in the game you still need to be patient and be compact. We did it in the games before and we haven't in the last two games. We need to get back on track and make more progress in that area." Berner rejected the suggestion that City had started to over- commit themselves and he vowed he and fellow full-back Robbie Neilson would continue to join attacks. "Robbie and I do like to go forward, but we are quite an attacking side, especially in home games," he explained. "You want to attack and not sit back. "We want to attack and show everyone we are winners, but again we got caught in different areas where Preston were more clever than us on Saturday.'' Hinckley United have been handed a tough away test in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup. The Knitters face a trip to Southern Premier Division Cambridge City on October 10. Hinckley booked their spot with a 2-1 win over Ridgeons' Premier club Kirkley & Pakefield.
The Doctor Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 We need to score early and kill te mood of everyone in the ground. Take our chances and we will be fine.We should have learned a lot about ourselves from the last two matches, hopefully giving us our first away win on Tuesday. The ref is M Haywood. Another one I have never heard of this season. Anyone know/heard of him? don't need to because due to the fact that he is a ref trained by the fa he is bound to be crap because the fa are completely incompetant. Anyway i'm going to have to say 2-1 them unless we manage to get an early goal, after all middlesborough aren't doing as well as they should and southgate hasn't really shown himself to be able to manage a team IMO. If we score early the M'boro fans will get on his and the teams back which could well helps us. Could go either way but only by a slim margin, a draw is most likely.
cecchini Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 we're screwed we can't seem to score goals they will nick it at the end 1 - 0
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 Middlesborough to win by two goals.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 Love the optimism in this thread. This. To be honest, if a team like Boro wants to go up, they should be looking to win their home games against teams like us. Having said that I predicted a win because I am trying to be optomistic. 4-1 City
chrisfox Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 I think we'll lose 2-1 I also think we'll get a red card tonight (Brown or Howard if either one plays)
ousefox Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 Just watched the highlights from when we last met Middlesbrough at the Riverside. What a ****er John Curtis was!
