Hopefully not!

Hopefully yes and hopefully he gets some where near to the form he showed at Birmingham. Competition for places can only be healthy.

exactly, why would any fan be happy to have a crocked player on our books? Doesnt make sense to me?

I'd love for him to get fully fit and recapture the form he showed BEFORE he joined us. But that is a big ask. We need more competition in central midfield (other than King) to put pressure on Oakley and Wellens, also of course in the event of injuries.

Give him a chance if he makes it back into the team, there's no point looking backwards, there were many players who underperformed a couple of seasons back who have gone on to redeem themselves. I hope he gets the same opportunity at some point.

He managed sixty minutes or so tonight for the reserves and seemed to cope OK. That's a long way from being fit enough for first team football but it was another step in the right direction.

Cheers for the info.

When Leicester City club captain Stephen Clemence finally makes his first-team return, he will add some much-needed competition for a place in the midfield.

Clemence will continue his comeback from an Achilles heel injury in the reserves tomorrow.

Although he still has a way to go before he can be included in a first-team squad for the first time since March, 2008, his return would be a massive boost for manager Nigel Pearson.

The 31-year-old is an influential figure around the City training ground, not least to a player he could soon rival for a place in the starting line-up.

Andy King has emerged from the City academy and has now made more than 60 appearances for the club, and he admits Clemence helped him in his development as a central midfield player.

The 20-year-old Wales international said Clemence has always been available to offer the younger players advice and he would love to see the skipper back fully fit once more, even if it meant more competition for a place in the starting line-up.

"He is a good player and, if he is back for Leicester, that is great for the club," said King, who has started City's last two games as Richie Wellens has struggled with tonsillitis.

"I spent a lot of time with him when I was coming through the youth ranks and he was very helpful to me.

"He showed me some of the ways of football.

"When I was playing my first few games I was playing alongside him and he talked to me, and helped me through. That is why I am so grateful to him."

King said, despite his tender years, he now tries to pass on that same generosity to the other young players in the squad with ambitions of breaking into the first team, although he admits he is still very much learning his trade.

"I do try to help the youth players but I am still being helped by the older lads as well," he said.

"It is a long season and I am still learning from the likes of Richie Wellens, Matt Oakley and Clemence. They are experienced players and have all played at the top level. If I can learn from them and play my part for the team, that is more than enough."

King feels he has adapted to life in the Championship but he admits it has been a steep learning curve in the first 11 games of the season. "The quality of players is the big difference," he said.

"The top six in League One was a good standard and there probably wasn't that much difference between that and the Championship.

"But every game in this league is tough and every game is in a big stadium with a good atmosphere. Every team has good players and can beat any other team on their day."

King has been called into the Wales squad for Wednesday's World Cup qualfiier against Liechtenstein in Vaduz.

King featured in the Under-21's 2-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina on Saturday.

All I can say, is that if he is good enough, N.P. will play him. It really is just a question of wait and see. The guy played well for Birmingham, but generally failed to live up to expectations here. Maybe the long lay off will prove beneficial.

Stephen Clemence will step up his comeback from injury tonight determined to make up for lost time.

The Leicester City club captain will feature against Barwell in the Westerby Cup Challenge final (7.30pm).

City reserve team boss Gerry Taggart said they are hoping Clemence will come through a full 90 minutes at Barwell's Kirkby Road ground.

"We may give him a bit longer than he has had previously and he may play a full game," said Taggart.

"We'll see how he feels, but every game he will get a bit longer.

TIN.adverts.adWriteDC('article-detail-impact-tile', '452x118'); 1x1.GIF "Clem is back from a long time out but he does my job in the dressing room and gets everyone at it."

Clemence has not featured in the first team for 18 months because of a persistent heel problem that required surgery.

He has not appeared in a team under Nigel Pearson and is determined to correct that fact.

Clemence has credited Pearson for bringing a new level of professionalism to City and said he is determined to be a part of it.

"I wish I had more chance to really work under the gaffer," he said. "The club now is so much more organised than the day I arrived from Birmingham.

"When teams have suffered relegation they are normally making cuts, but we absolutely loaded up on the sports science department and employed new people.

"Everything is analysed now and everything is shown to you and explained why you are doing something.

"One thing that has been instilled in this club since Nigel came here is a winning mentality. Nothing else is good enough for him.

"On match-day they are preparing to win games, nothing else. They never talk about a draw or of containing the opposition, they are always going out to win.

"As long as that carries on and the lads keep performing to the standard they have set, then it can only get better.

"We have a lot of young players who are still learning about this division because they have never played at this level, and they will only get better.

"I am sure some of the players may have thought, going up a league, is it possible to get into the play-offs? But Nigel makes us believe it is."

Barwell earned the right to face City after defeating Quorn in last season's Westerby final.

Canaries manager Marcus Law said he will be at full strength.

Clemence was not the only one to have a bad season that year. Other players were given a second chance and so should he.

Why? I'd far rather invest in improving players rather than people going the other way. We've seen so many of the latter at City these recent years and how we paid for it.

I think a balance is appropriate, surely Thracian? I understand you are pro- new blood and so am I, but if Clem is fit enough and good enough, why not, it's not like he's cost us anything, the insurance has paid for his time out.

Secondly, I wasn't going to say anything but harping on about Andy King week in week out, would be fine, if I had seen him have consistent game yet. He looked poor in pre-season matches, giving the ball away and losing position and concentration. When he has come on at home matches I've not seen anything to warrant Pearson putting him in as a starter before anybody else. I am glad he's had a couple of good games for Wales but so what, he needs to show Pearson in training he can do it for Leicester as I've seen no evidence from home matches this season of him being rather average, if not a little poor.

We have 3 central midfielders, which is hardly enough competition for a side wanting to do well in the championship. We still have over 2 months until January so we cannot buy anyone. So if Clemence can a) get fit and b) impress Pearson enough to get a place on the bench then i don't see why we can't give him a go. If he then doesn't produce on the pitch its up to NP to decide what happens next. Even your beloved Andy King wants him back in the 1st team set-up.

I don't know what King needs to show in training, given that he's always a diligent trainer and given the results of all games he's been involved in since Pearson's arrival, including this season.

I'd doubt that King will ever look a spectacular flash dan on the pitch but we've sure missed him when he's not been there with great gaps developing in the centre of our defence or elsewhere behind our midfield.

As for "giving the ball away" I would love to present statistics to you relating to all our players and show exactly where King comes in terms of "giving the ball away".

Lets all be honest here.

We all want Leicester to be successful and to do that we need to field our best team. If that team includes Stephen Clemence (when fit) why would anyone say that they don't want him in the team.

I'm not one for playing younger players so they can learn their trade. Young players have to develop, that's what a reserve team and being loaned to smaller clubs is for. When the time is right the batton is passed to them for the experienced pros. If King drops down the pecking order so Clem can play, then King doesn't deserve to be playing. People can bang on about how King was a central figure last season and I agree but we've up a level, what's happened has happened and to cut to he chase, if Clem is fit and good enough to command a first team slot, then one of the other centre mids will have to be sacrificed, quite rightly for him to play.
