Fox92 Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 Giggs was born in Canton, Cardiff so has got to play for Wales really. All this if your grandma was born in Brazil/England/France wherever thing is stupid. If you are born in Manchester, you play for England, if you were born in Glasgow, you play for Scotland, if you were born in Florida, you play for America etc etc, never mind if your Grandma is 25% French, 25% Russian and 50% Brazilian. Jeez, I wish I made the rules up. Simon Perrota should play for England, shouldn't he?

Simone Perrotta may have been born here and even lived here until about 10 but both parents are Italian and he considers himself Italian
Jon the Hat Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 Simone Perrotta may have been born here and even lived here until about 10 but both parents are Italian and he considers himself Italian And rightly so. Nationality is about much more than where you were born. For a start if you were born here to foreign parents who lived here on non-residential visa who then left to go back to another country, you would not qualify for British citizenship. Then even if you did qualify, you should rightly have the choice of who to represent if you are eligible for more than one country.
Tommy G Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 I thought everyone knew this?Anyway I am still trying to understand why he won the PFA player of the year after only starting 12 league games. Because he played well? Thats in the past now anyway - are you a Liverpool fan?

Birthplace isn't really that big a factor as to how one feels about one's national identity.
purpleronnie Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 Because he played well? Thats in the past now anyway - are you a Liverpool fan? Nah I just think there were more deserving players.
Fox You Forest Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 It still gets my goat that Wales are a member of FIFA/UEFA and better footballing nations like Gibraltar can't get a look in.

LCFC-ARAB Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 I could play for 5 national teams under those rules Algeria - my dad Scotland - my mum Belgium - my mum's mum Ireland - my mum's dad England - where i was born but i'd only really want to play for Algeria or Scotland because those are the two countries i associate my self with. it's kind of hard not to feel Algerian and Scottish when you're brought up watching Braveheart one day and The Battle of Algiers the next!

Uncle Albert Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 Because he played well? Thats in the past now anyway - are you a Liverpool fan? Hahahahahha, even you the thickest peice of shit going (closely followed by Ajcw) must know that Ryan Giggs didnt deserve the PFA player of the year? He had one good game against West Ham where he scored and thats it. How was he better than Rio Ferdinand or Nemanja Vidic, Ronaldo or Rooney? In that Man United team who played double the amount of time that he did and added more to that title winning season than Giggs. Clown.
