I need advice on where to move back to. This is were you guys come in. Im looking for the following I have around £500,000 to spend on a property maybe more I need easy access to the M1 My son goes to a private school in Derbyshire and I would want him to go to a similar one in Leicestershire. He is 5 years old. I am flexible about moving to rural location Thanks in advance
Uncle Albert Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 Barrow on Soar. Not far from the M1 really and Ratcliffe College or there is a private school in Loughborough for youths Fairfields or something. Barrow is for the more classier people, i.e Me, Tommeh and Tevez.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 If you want easy access to the M1 I'd have thought South Leicestershire would be your best bet
hairy Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 South Leicestershire. You have Stoneygate Prep School and Leicester Grammer in Great Glen.

The M1 in on the doorstep for an easy drive into Leicester or to Wellingborough School where my grandkids have been educated since Prep School and which comes highly recommended.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 You should try Rearsby mate, Some really nice houses here for sale. Extremely close to Ratcliffe College (Grammar School) Close to the M1 Pretty great scenary round here too!
SemperEadem Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 Im from Gilmorton a nearby village to Lutterworth. Lutterworth itself is a bit of a dive but the villages nearby are beautiful. We are very close to the M1. There are also private school just into Warwickshire, Rugby way which is a 10 mintue drive.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 My sister lives in Queniborough now and I always think what a lovely little village it is when I visit. Just off the A47 which takes you on to the M1. Also not that far from Evington if you still have family and friends and is a couple of minutes from Syston & Thurmason which has all the local amenities you will need. The pubs are friendly too. I think if I ever moved back to the area I would look around there. Also Barkby is very nice.
Bert Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 I was going to say LFE. As close as anywhere to the M1 and it's quite a nice area.
Dr The Singh Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 I was going to say LFE. As close as anywhere to the M1 and it's quite a nice area. LFE\Kirby Muxloe aren't bad area's, although the schools in the catchment areas are not as good as those in area's already mentioned!!
Tabou Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 I'm planning on Woodhouse Eaves/Swithland next year. Come and be my neighbour!
AoWW Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 I'm planning on Woodhouse Eaves/Swithland next year. Come and be my neighbour! In all honesty, I reckon you'd be a great neighbour. I'd pop round to borrow some gin when I'd forgotten to buy some more, you'd also be great for advising on the best outfit for important occasions or solving 'wardrobe malfunctions' and I'd probably even trust you to feed the cat if I went away. You sure you don't fancy moving to Norfolk instead?
Fosse Boy Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 Market Harborough or one of the surrounding villages. Beautiful part of the county.
Raj Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 If you miss Evington so much i'll offer you my house for 500,000 of your lovely pounds!!
Ashley Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 Thornton is a nice area and i'm sure theres a private school around that area

foxoffderby Posted 15 October 2009 Author Posted 15 October 2009 thanks for all your comments so far. Im going to have to get a map of Leicestershire as the majority of the places mentioned are quite alien to me, I left east Leicester when I was 16 and I dont really know a lot about them at all. Its a big move, life changing in fact leaving Derby, having lived there more years of my life than I have lived in Leicester. I still have family and friends around Evington, Oadby LFE and Desford which I need to take into account. However the the most importent factor is the wife and her insistence on sending our son to a private school and the fact we need access to the M1 for businnes commitments for myself around Derby and Nottingham. My wife will be doing a lot of contracting work around those areas also in her job and maybe Rugby and Coventry so motorway access is essential. Anyway thanks again so far its been very useful and I can see my weekends in the next 6 months being taken up with visits to the areas you guys have mentioned. Cheers

I think there is a private school in Elkington which is 3 miles away.
Tommeh Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 Barrow, Quorn or Woodhouse eves I'd reccomend. Rothley and Newtown Linford are the pinnacle but may require a bigger budget for good value for money. I'l let LD3 plug Stanton Under Bardon but there is nothing closer to the M1 than that.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 Get yourself to Birstall. Classy.
Uncle Albert Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 Agree with this Barrow upon Soar is nice. Been in The Trap a few times Ratcliffe College is pretty posh too. The Trap is a quality establishment! Thrown many an arrow in there.
