suffolk fox Posted 3 January 2010 Posted 3 January 2010 This taken from a Pompey web site - we never had it so good....... didn't go to today's game, not the first i have missed at home over the years, due to work commitments or for family reasons or on occasion health reasons, but today i had no excuse, i just could not be bothered.such is my disillusionment with the club(or should i say board). How long is this disaster going to be allowed to go on.listened to PS on the Quay basically admitting that he thinks its possible that the transfer embargo could be lifted on the 10th jan.(but i wont hold my breath),Also admitting that the fire sell is going to continue(so bye bye Kaboul,Belhadj,Papa and god knows who).As for the finances lets be honest the bloke seems to have as much idea as the rest of us.If the CEO is out of the loop then god help us. regardless of my feelings regarding the man ,it must make it almost impossible for him to run the club on a day to day basis. I heard that there was a protest after the game demanding the sacking of the board(not sure if i agree that is the right course of action or not)But i understand why some fans felt it was the right thing to do.But what has angered me is that the gutless faceless morons in the board room left it to Kaboul to come out and appease the gathered crowd. Now i will turn to the on field antics,as everybody knows in Hart i trusted,I'm sorry but in Grant i don't !!!! can anybody explain the tactics in the last few games, because i don't understand them at all.At least when Paul Hart was the manager we could say we had a go but on many occasions we ended up being unlucky,Now in my opinion we look defeated from the first five mins.the players seemed to give there all for Paul Hart, it just seems that fight has gone out of the team.We have 18 first team players available, with the African contingent away,so with a few to be sold over the next week or so ,it looks like i am going to have to read up on the youth players so i will know who will be playing in the first team in a couple of weeks time. Things will only get worse i imagine, and i guess my lack of enthusiasm will return, and i will cheer on whoever ends up putting on the shirt in future, but right now i have never felt so down being a Pompey fan. POMPEY 'TIL I DIE OR POMPEY 'TIL IT KILLS ME
lildave3 Posted 3 January 2010 Posted 3 January 2010 Their club could go under. I'm not laughing. Gonna say, hardly funny.
Guest Bilo Posted 3 January 2010 Posted 3 January 2010 Their club could go under. I'm not laughing. Agreed. I can't pretend I'm an admirer of Portsmouth but their fans certainly don't deserve to watch their club go bust. I can only think of three or four clubs in the game I would have no problem with never seeing again and Pompey certainly aren't one of them.
davieG Posted 3 January 2010 Posted 3 January 2010 Well there were plenty of theirefans ripping us when we went into administration and they all returned to take the piss when they pipped us for the league, when we subsequently got relegated and when Mandaric took over. I certainly don't want to see them go bust but some wind taken out of their arrogant sails wouldn't go amiss,

I'll have a bit of a giggle when they get relegated in May (especially if we happen to replace them) but would take no pleasure in their bankruptcy if it happened.
Flynny Posted 3 January 2010 Posted 3 January 2010 They're about to go under AND used to be run by the same guy as we are, so I'm certainly not laughing, no. First time I've actually hoped we don't go up looking at clubs like Pompey, Hull, even West Ham struggling to stay afloat.

The reasons are a) someone can buy them on the cheap as the sellers get desperate and b) major lenders do not want the bad publicity of driving an institution with thousands of close followers and millions of interested parties into the ground

Ok so there's a name at the top, but has anyone seen him and know how to contact him to arrange payment for players - I wouldn't be suprised if the owner's name is one a made up person plucked from Football Rumors! If Administrators take control, they will look to asset strip, selling off players for likely next to nothing and not replacing them which would most likely bring relegation and then with that, potentially that ever increasing downward spiral. Bradford, and Swindon were premier league clubs, and they have struggled coming to terms with the experience ever since. And as others have pointed out, you have to wonder what part our Chairman had in this downfall before he jumped ship. He must have authorised a lot of the signings made over Harry's time, and so you just don't know what the balance sheet was like when he left. The other similarity with the Portsmouth situation to Leicester, is the fact that they are a smaller club with an older under capacity ground (for the Premier League) which has over achieved for a number of years and have recently lost there god like manager - Harry (all be it for the second time). The similarities with us in the post O'Neil years are all too freaky. With other clubs like West Ham, Hull and even Manchester Utd and Liverpool in precarious financial positions, it only takes footballs bubble to burst (and I would suggest that it's starting to go this way) for a lot of clubs to be in a lot of trouble. MC Prussian Posted 25 February 2010 Posted 25 February 2010 It's looking bleak for Pompey... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/t...uth/8527495.stm Pompey 'set for administration'Crisis-club Portsmouth are expected to go into administration on Friday. The Premier League's bottom club had needed to find a buyer before the end of the week, but with such a short timescale that now seems unlikely. Under Premier League rules, Pompey would then be docked nine points, leaving them 17 adrift of safety and almost certain to be relegated. However, the winding-up order against the club, due to be heard on Monday, will now be suspended. Portsmouth have debts of £70m, and the winding up order was over £7.5m owed to HM Revenue and Customs. Pompey owner Balram Chainrai spokesman Phil Hall told the club's website: "There is now only a short window of opportunity for buyers to come in with a credible offer. "We have to be realistic and having the club wound up is not an option as far as we are concerned." Chainrai recently became Portsmouth's fourth owner of the season, taking 90% of the club shares after the previous owner Ali Al Faraj defaulted on loan payments due to him. Pompey's financial woes have meant their players have been paid late on four occasions this season. The club are also involved in a separate dispute with former owner Sacha Gaydamak over whether they have missed a deadline in paying a £9m chunk of the £28m they owe him. The Premier League recently withheld £2m of transfer payments and a £7m slice of TV revenue to divert to Chelsea and Watford for the signings of Glen Johnson and Tommy Smith respectively. The Fratton Park club are also being sued by former Pompey defender Sol Campbell for £1.7m for unpaid image rights.
purpleronnie Posted 25 February 2010 Posted 25 February 2010 I hope Richard scudamore is happy with himself. ****.
Shrenchel Posted 25 February 2010 Posted 25 February 2010 I hope peter scudamore is happy with himself.****.
purpleronnie Posted 25 February 2010 Posted 25 February 2010 oooops Richard. I blame peter too and the whole family.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 25 February 2010 Posted 25 February 2010 I don't know the full situation with Sol Campbell, but judging from the last line of that report, he sounds like a ****.
Samilktray Posted 25 February 2010 Posted 25 February 2010 Well if I was owed £1.7mil I'd quite like to have it.
fatmando Posted 25 February 2010 Posted 25 February 2010 This just better not happen to every club MM leaves behind!
syston_fox Posted 25 February 2010 Posted 25 February 2010 More importantly - does this mean LD3 wins his bet with Bert?
Webbo Posted 25 February 2010 Posted 25 February 2010 They're going down anyway and if they go into administration a lot of their debts will be wiped off. The club will survive in some shape or form. Save your sympathy for some of their creditors who'll be lucky to get 30p in the pound.

Bollocks, football is a business and poorly run businesses go to the wall everyday, just because they have fans instead of customers doesn't mean anyone should have sympathy for them. The fans all loved it when they won the cup, they are now having to pay the price of that.

But when we ourselves are football fans it's not really right for us to get all schadenfreude towards them is it?
leicesterseddon Posted 25 February 2010 Posted 25 February 2010 Bollocks, football is a business and poorly run businesses go to the wall everyday, just because they have fans instead of customers doesn't mean anyone should have sympathy for them. The fans all loved it when they won the cup, they are now having to pay the price of that. Surely it does though because as fellow fans we can emphasise with the the fact that their relationship with their club is more than simply a commercial one? Are you saying you have the same emotional attachment to buying beans from your favourite supermarket as you do to buying tickets to watch Leicester? And how is going west 'paying the price' for having won the cup? If they do go under it will be because of years of mismanagement, if anything without the financial gains of the cup run they might have run into this trouble last season.
