As mentioned earlier, my Great Uncle (S/Ldr L.F. Evans DSO) was Squadron Leader for 356 Squadron, he flew B24 Liberators. I know you all have watched Bridge on the River Kwai... here's the truth http://www.aircrew-saltire.org/lib141.htm

356 squadron, along with others were responsible for bombing the bridges. See the attached PDF's, the one about his DSO mentions bombing the bridges. Incidentally, he also got the DSO bar. I'm currently reading his memoirs, my Aunt should publish them soon (ish).

This is a pic of a Liberator taking off from the Cocos Islands in 1945 just before they were disbanded.

He was also based in Salbani, British India (now in Bangladesh) first with 356 and then back again with 159 Squadron, where he assumed command of the station in May 1946 and disbanded 159. See the other PDF.

This is a pic of a Liberator in Salbani. Massive.

Vulcan is joining the two Lancaster's in a flypast today. Yes, the people living in Lincolnshire have all the luck!

Hoping for some quality pictures and videos after the event. The sound and sight will be brilliant.

saw the Vulcan at the Farnborough Air show  (the grandchildren insisted on going(!) if there is a more graceful and beautiful flying machine of that vintage anywhere I've not seen it although of course the Super Constellation is pretty cool although that is civil of course and then there was that Gloster meteor...................

Years ago I was playing f-18 on my amiga and had to finish the mission by landing on an aircraft carrier, which I successfully did, but when you went to the outside camera (which I did to check, cos I thought I had, cos all I could see in front of me was blue) you could see the front wheel was about 2 metres off the end of the ship, but the plane was still horizontal lol

That was a good landing btw, any you can walk away from and all that!

The amiga had some cracking simulators (or atleast seemed it at the time). They're what got me into all this business really. I seem to remember an f-18 sim, I was never any good at them, mind.

FA-18 Interceptor for the Amiga. What a fantastic flight sim. Just a shame you couldn't finish the last mission - there was a bug, apparently.

I still play it via emulator every now and then for a good laugh. Carrier landings at 500 knots are so much fun. :D

A recent one over Lincoln.

Over 7000 Lancasters built and only 2 airworthy ones left.

Must be quite stressful flying one of them. Not something you'd want to stuff up...

Great pic by the way

I was working at Scampton (home of the Red Arrows), and it's quite amazing what those guys can do in such a tight formation!

On the way back from a tour last year, we got a Typhoon escort out of the patrolled airspace, that was a sight and a half, I just looked out of the window and a Eurofighter was basically on the end of the wing.
