davieG Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Huddersfield Town keen to bring in Leicester City striker Steve Howard TOWN are plotting an exciting swoop to land Leicester City striker Steve Howard. Sources suggest Galpharm boss Lee Clark will attempt to breath new life into his side’s League I promotion challenge by bringing in the experienced 33-year-old on loan. Clark has a close relationship with Leicester manager Nigel Pearson, who has just landed Everton frontman James Vaughan on loan, from their time working alongside each other at Newcastle. And he will use it to try and persuade the Walkers Stadium boss to allow the former Luton and Derby man to leave, albeit temporarily. Howard scored 15 goals to help Leicester win promotion from League I last season, when he formed a highly effective partnership with Matty Fryatt. The powerful Durham-born player, who has also been with Hartlepool and Northampton, needs just four more goals to reach a career tally of 200. http://www.examiner.co.uk/huddersfield-town-fc/huddersfield-town-news/2010/03/15/huddersfield-town-keen-to-bring-in-leicester-city-striker-steve-howard-86081-26031538/?
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 By the sounds of it he lacks confidence so wouldn't be a bad thing. But considering he has been playing all be it off the bench probably not going to happen.
dandannieldanok Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Don't see how this would help us. I'd keep him here, he still has a part to play albeit a one.
hairy Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 I think we need to keep him. He adds another dimension to our single attack ploy
surrifox Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 probably best to file this under "much to lose, little to gain" Unless there was some financial benefit (unlikely to be significant) why deplete the squad with such an intense period of activity coming up. SH keeps himself fit and is still an aerial threat why risk it?

SH keeps himself fit and is still an aerial threat why risk it? disagree. I think sending him out on loan or a month would get him match fit and match sharp - it might be important to get him some games in case we get some injuries last month of the season and also for play offs - we could always have a 24 hour recall aswell. Considering where he was when we signed him, he is probably one of our top earners too and so it wouldnt hurt to have someone else pay part of his wages too for a bit. Prefer Yann coming off the bench as the target man anyway...
MC Prussian Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 I think Howard should use this opportunity to get back into scoring form. He's currently wasted on the bench for us and has shown he can do it on League One level - he should be a valuable temporary asset to Huddersfield's promotion hopes (maybe even spoil Leeds' ambitions ). Send him out there for a month (with a possible extension), then have him back in time for the playoff scenario. Both clubs and Howard win. I do hope they find an agreement.

Corky Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 I'd prefer him to stay, his role on Saturday to hold the ball up suited him and the team and by and large he's useful at that. However, at this stage in his career, if regular starts are offered then he'll probably look to take up that opportunity.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 He's still got a part to play I think. Not yet anyway, Keep him here until the end of the season.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Rather see one of the young'uns that offers something a bit different given a go, someone like Yussef. But then again, I'm not a football manager.
Katy Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 STEVE is acting a bit like a mardy, stroppy cow at the moment. I think a spell on loan would help him and us. I want the old STEVE back!
bluebeau Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 IMO if Steve Howard wants to go to Huddersfield, City should let him go on a 1 month loan ( renewable) that way we are keeping him as our player, he keeps match fit & would probably score goals, so gain confidence. City would be able to recall him if & when needed, his wages or part of them would be paid by the loan club. So everyone gains, win win situ? He has been a loyal & decent player since being at City so he deserves a break & could set him up for his final career move?
Kilworthfox Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 We never seem to play to his goal scoring strengths, Howard is always used at relive pressure with a hoof so he give the team the opportunity to win possession in the opponents half without actually passing the ball through midfield. He does this team job effectively, but is very unlikely to score goals here as we never feed him the crosses for him to head in. Some game time away with a 24 hr recall may be a good idea???
Jimmy Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Kermorgant can easily fill the Target man role, let him go and maybe earn a perm transfer in the summer, this has to be his last season for us, whether we go up or not, he just doesn't have the legs anymore
DeclanMC Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 I think Big Steve still gives us a needed option, at Cardiff saturday our strikers were struggling to win the ball in the air so he came on and started to win and retain posession in the final third. I think if he wants to go to Huddersfield, let him, but I think we should hang onto him.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 I'd rather they took that over rated bag of cack Kermorgant off our hands instead. I'll even drive him there myself.
dilko2008 Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 keep him till the end of the season he still gives us a option and personally prefer him to kerm!
calum_lcfc Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 It would be disapointing to see him go even if its on loan cause he is old style type of player who will win us alot of headers Keep him and let him score the winner against the sheep shaggers
maddog Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Last season when Howard wasn't playing we seemed to really struggle to play well, the P'Boro away game comes to mind. We were one dimensional. This season we have proven we can play well and win without Howard on many, many occasions. The acquisitions of Wellens, Gallagher, Waghorn have more than made up for the loss of Howard and allowed us to play decent passing football with an end product. And to a certain extent, we've proven we can win games without Fryatt since this injury. So let him go out on loan, it's win win. Could this be the final nail in the coffin for the Howard/Fryatt partnership
Guest Mee-9 Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 I'd rather they took that over rated bag of cack Kermorgant off our hands instead. I'll even drive him there myself. When Howard comes on you feel like he could score us a goal. When Kermorgant comes on, it aint gunna happen.
Guest DavidJCW Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Don't know what all the fuss is about... send him out to get some games and were something to happen, we could just recall him and use him then. At the moment we've got Gallagher, Vaughan, Waghorn and Kermorgant who can all play up front and we don't usually start with 3 of them in a game meaning two are on the bench. That's more than enough to be going on with unless one gets injured and then we can bring Steve back. As for him scoring, well I can't say when he comes on the first thing I think of is goals... more likely that he's going to try and get free-kicks for us in a decent area.
