In fact, I'm virtually certain Fifa stipulate you have to have 3.
sdb Posted 23 May 2010 Posted 23 May 2010 Yes 3 keepers is a FIFA regulation. I'd drop warnock, huddlestone, swp, Carra, carrick, bent and not sure
Narborough_fox Posted 23 May 2010 Posted 23 May 2010 Just wondering why do you need 3 keepers I'm sure only one will be used and only a 2nd if first choice was injured/suspended!
Samilktray Posted 23 May 2010 Posted 23 May 2010 Most people have left out Bent, which I think will probably happen anyway. But I think it would be massively unfair on the lad, to score as many goals as he has throughout the past few seasons and not make it there.

No room for anymore goalscorers, or else there won't be a seat left for Emile.
marbelladave Posted 24 May 2010 Posted 24 May 2010 Frankly I think Capello's plans are beginning to unravel. He has a lot of serious issues to sort out in just a few weeks. Our only experienced international keeper is nearly 40 and rarely trains, oh, and those 'moments'! We have a right back can't defend, has hardly played recently and his backup is geriatric. Our pivotal central defensive position appears to be a job share between two crocks. Our most consistent central midfield player is injured and might not make it. His preferred deputy is Carrick, starting to worry yet? Walcott and Lennon have had not had great seasons, injuries and loss of form has taken it's toll on both players, Johnson anyone? We still have no obvious contender to play on the left, Gerrard won't/can't play the position, Joe Cole has been out most of the season and Milner will probably not lose you a game but will not win you one either. Up front the Rooney/Heskey partnership is under threat, mainly due to Heskey's poor season. Rooney may have done well as a lone striker for Utd, after all he got to see plenty of the ball, but at international level this will not happen. How long before he starts chasing back leaving us without a single target up front? All of which could be very interesting indeed, I think Capello is an excellent manager with a knack for seeing and finding ways to get things done, but I think his ability is going to be sorely tested in the weeks ahead. Players to leave out? Bent, Warnock, Upson, Carrick, Wright-Phillips, Carragher, Huddleston
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 25 May 2010 Posted 25 May 2010 If Carragher goes Capello can smd. Shouldn't be anywhere near the team, after some of his comments upon reitiring.
Uncle Albert Posted 25 May 2010 Posted 25 May 2010 If Carragher goes Capello can smd. Shouldn't be anywhere near the team, after some of his comments upon reitiring. He should be near the team, he is a quality player and he can cover across the back four, ideal player for the World Cup especially with his experience.. His comments were hardly bad, he said he prefers playing for Liverpool over England and that he wasnt going to travel all over Europe trying to qualify for a tournament and not get a look in over people like Wes Brown, to be fair I think I would probably quit, plus Carragher didnt like Steve McLaren. The fact people are slating someone who has come out of retirement to help his Country says it all about England fans at times, funny not everyone has the same to say about Paul Scholes who quit the England team because Lampard and Gerrard were forcing him out of the team, short memories. Anyway, I think Carragher will be going to South Africa and Capello may of pretty much told him he is in the squad, why else would Carragher come out of retirement to train in a 30 man squad if he didnt already know he was going to go to South Africa.

If Capello told him he's going straight in the squad I find that a bit unfair on the others. It's alright if he's prompted Carragher to at least try and get in the squad by accepting him in the set-up, but it'd be unfair on other players who have tried their utmost to get in the team. It's like giving Carragher a free-pass into the squad. Also, Carragher has hardly had a great season. He's past his best and even he knows it.
Uncle Albert Posted 25 May 2010 Posted 25 May 2010 My seven players to leave behind: Huddlestone A Johnson Warnock Bent Parker Dawson Upson

I think he has had a free pass into the 23 that doesnt mean he is going to play much, I just think why else would Capello of kept asking Carragher out of retirement if he was comfortable with the other defenders in the squad like Upson and Dawson? They didnt even get a chance last night to impress. I just think Capello would of had to say alot to Carra to get him out of retirement and I don't think he could of done that buy just inviting him to the 30 man squad because Capello has has him to rejoin the squad a few times since his reign as manager.
StanSP Posted 25 May 2010 Posted 25 May 2010 7 I'd leave behind: Upson Carrick Walcott Warnock Bent Parker Huddlestone Meaning my squad is: Green Hart James Terry Ferdinand King Dawson G. Johnson A. Cole Baines Carragher Lennon Milner Gerrard Lampard Barry SWP Joe Cole A. Johnson Crouch Defoe Heskey Rooney
lcfc_jme Posted 26 May 2010 Posted 26 May 2010 Leaving Darren Bent out of the squad after the season he's just had in a decidedly mediocre Sunderland team would be criminal and wouldn't really be true to Fabio's "picking players on merit" tagline. But meh, whatever. I'd also rather see Parker in England's squad than Gareth Barry as well, so what do I know.

'Jamie, come out of retirement for 2 weeks then i'll drop you again' Of course it's a free pass. Why would he ask him to come back if he was just going to leave him out?
C-man Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 Shearer's 23. Clueless. He wants to take 5 strikers, leave out Joe Cole, and play 4-5-1. Ok Alan. No wonder he got Newcastle relegated.

sdb Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 Capello says it'll be the 23 he already had in mind before the 2 games, so that surely means no Parker, Bent, Dawson, Huddlestone, Warnock/Baines, A Johnson. Not sure who the other would be? Carrick? SWP?
Bryn Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 As long as Heskey and J. Cole goes I'm happy, team is better with those two in. Hart Johnson Ferdinand Terry A. ColeLennon Gerrard Lampard J. ColeLennon Gerrard LampardRooney HeskeySubs: Green, James, Carragher, King, Dawson, Baines, Walcott, Barry, Parker, Milner, Crouch, Defoe Would be my squad. I'd solve the Gerrard-Lampard dovetailing problem by instructing Lampard to play deeper than Gerrard, his range of passing is better. Would consider putting Barry back in the first XI when he regains full fitness. Hopefully we'll qualify quickly and can give him a run out in the final group match.

AyewJoking Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 so u can solve the gerrard/lampard problem by telling one of them to stay back?
dandannieldanok Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 so u can solve the gerrard/lampard problem by telling one of them to stay back? I personally don't think there is a problem to solve and would play them both in the centre, in a 4-4-2. But the whole Gerrard and Lampard not playing together thing seems to be still in fashion.

Reckon this is our strongest eleven. Hart G. Johnson - Terry - Ferdinand - A. ColeBarryLennon - Lampard - GerrardRooney - Heskey I would take Adam Johnson to SA. And with him and Joe Cole in particular we got lads who can come off the bench and change the game.
