ozleicester Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 My time in the Midlands has been super so far... but im having trouble finding a "preferred radio station". I have found that most stations here seem to play pop based, "girly" sounding stuff, i dont mind a bit of that.. in fact its good background, but im looking for a station that carries some more Indy/hip hop/rock sounds. Any suggestions much appreciated. (please include where on the dial the stations are)
Bellend Sebastian Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 If you've got access to a DAB radio (which realistically you won't have in your car) you can listen to the recently-reprieved-from-closure BBC 6 Music. It's the 'serious' music station, with the emphasis on the music rather than twatty celebrity DJs (although some of them are a good laugh) and plays a good mix of what you're after. You can also get it on Sky/Freeview etc, and online
Houdini Logic Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 Smooth 106.6 would be my choice, but i'm a fan of the oldies On another note - Whatever happened to Graham Torrington?
rico Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 Demon FM is another somewhere between 104 and 106 i think
ramboacdc Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 kerrang 105.2 in the day time is full of that. its only after about 9pm it goes into my regions of heavy metal. but its alright to listen to.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 Yeah, 6 Music definitely if you have DAB radio, Kerrang! on 105.2 fm is good quality if you're west of Markfield, also consider Absolute Radio on 1215 Medium Wave.
Jon the Hat Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 You could also listen to 6 Music on an iphone using Tunein Radio app.... and a sound dock of some description.

Alexikokopops Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 USELESS POST ALERT: XFM's alright, but it's only available in London and Manchester

Matt Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 USELESS POST ALERT: XFM's alright, but it's only available in London and Manchester Or DAB. I have to put up with Radio 2, Smooth or Leicester Sound at work, all terrible, I have to take my iPod to work, or use my phone - Which I listen to Radio 1 in the morning for Chris Moyles and afternoon for Scott Mills inbetween I don't listen to Radio 1, awful station - Zane Lowe is ok but never listen after 7pm. I did buy a DAB radio and listened to XFM and Absoloute they both sounded good, Kerrang is also good, but unfortunatly can't really listen to my own radio because it gets drowned out by Radio 2/Smooth/Leicester Sound at work, so results back to my iPod or Phone radio.
KFS Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 BBC Radio 1 is very good I find but they have a set tracklist that gets played and played and played repetitively during the day.
Suffolk_fox Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 Will agree about XFM - my gf lives in London and introduced me to it, so I listen on my telly through Freesat. Very cool! 6 Music excellent at new music.
Alexikokopops Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 BBC Radio 1 is very good I find but they have a set tracklist that gets played and played and played repetitively during the day. There's a meeting at Radio One every week where they sort out the playlist for the main shows (morning through to drive time), so that is the case.
Unit Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 Smooth 106.6 would be my choice, but i'm a fan of the oldies On another note - Whatever happened to Graham Torrington? Haha as in Late night love?
hairy Posted 12 August 2010 Posted 12 August 2010 the station i had back on oz was triple J, if your looking for a good alternative station online.. give it a listen Triple J is the best music station in the world IMO. You can stream it over the t'interweb but listening to it during the day here means you get to listen to their night shows. 6Music is the closest you will get. You can stream that too or you need to get a DAB radio or you can always splash out on a SONOS system to stream around the house.
DeclanMC Posted 12 August 2010 Posted 12 August 2010 If you can get your hands on an internet connection or a DAB radio, 6 Music is fantastic. They do have a playlist like radio 1, but the DJs get a lot of freedom to play what they want.
Finnegan Posted 13 August 2010 Posted 13 August 2010 Just whatever you do. WHATEVER. YOU. DO. Don't ever, ever. ~whatever you do~... listen... ... to Takeover Radio.
Dr The Singh Posted 13 August 2010 Posted 13 August 2010 Raaj :trumpet:Radio, local radio at it's best!!
Zingari Posted 13 August 2010 Posted 13 August 2010 forget the rest , get the best Craig Adams99 http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=41765
ozleicester Posted 3 September 2010 Author Posted 3 September 2010 I love being home... but... the radio here remains sh"i"t, i spend more of every driving experience changing stations than doing anything else. Is it just me, or has the entirety of music become 17 year old girls (or boys who sound like them) who's voices have been altered to sound "electronic". why... in my day... grumble grizzle moan... Time to burn a few more CD's On the plus side... i do enjoy turning on radio Leics at 6.30-7.30 pm.. never know what ill get... Moan in... yodelling...weird unheard of sounds... i just never know
