l444ry Posted 26 September 2010 Posted 26 September 2010 p.s he only finished two places below us last season with an arguably weaker squad, does that mean nothing? The squad he inherited from Martinez at Swansea consisted of players already used to the passing style. He had to change very little and a totally different situation to Leicester. Therefore, your argument has very little relevance.
purpleronnie Posted 26 September 2010 Posted 26 September 2010 So people now agree with the swansea fan who came on here stating they were glad he had left? Strange as the leicester fans were defending sousa like he'd just won us the league.
ibbosuk Posted 26 September 2010 Posted 26 September 2010 Major point! Levein Holloway Allen Kelly Let's not fall into the changing the manager period again please, it ended in relegation to our lowest ever point Yer lets just get relegated using just the one ! ThorpeAstleyFox Posted 26 September 2010 Posted 26 September 2010 This is a post neither in support of Sousa nor against him but I wish to make the following points. After 5 games I posted that we should not judge Paulo so soon and that every manager deserves at least 12 league games before being judged. The target that I set at that point was that after 12 league games we had to be at leat 5 points above the relegation zone - and I'm going to stick with that criteria. With only 3 points from a possible 9 since then, a humiliating 5 goal defeat against the team who were bottom of the league and finding ourselves at the foot of the table I can fully understand why more fans are turning against Sousa. I personally (and I know that this is not a popular opinion) feel that there are some positives to take out of the first 10 games. I quite like the new formation and the new style of play. When we're passing it well (i.e. Coventry and Cardiff) we are a joy to watch. I am pleased with most of the signings and delighted with the way that Dyer and King are playing. I have no problem with Waghorn playing out wide as you need pace on both wings if you are to play a sucsessful 4-2-3-1 system. Unfortunately the negatives are starting to massively outweigh the positives. A previously solid defense is leaking goals for fun. We have failed to score the first goal in any of our 8 league games. We have had a ridiculously high number of corners but rarely look a threat from set pieces. We lack a cutting edge in the final third. We are bottom of the table. We have just suffered our worst defeat since January 2004 (which was arguabley a better result losing 5-0 to Aston Villa in the Premier League - you have to go back to October 2001 if you want a 6 goal defeat!) to the team who were bottom of the table and who had previously only scored twice in 7 games (obviously this isn't all Paulo's fault since we gave a way a stupid penalty and had a player harshly sent off - but he must take some of the blame)!!! We do not have the striker needed to sucsessfully play a 4-2-3-1 system - there is no point in blaming Howard and Fryatt for this - they just are not the right type of striker for this system. My major concern is that over the last 9 seasons only 3 of the teams who were bottom after 8 games have managed to avoid relegation - with the highest that any of them finished being 14th (QPR in 2008 - Forest finished 19th in 2007 and Rotherham finished 21st in 2002). This is omething that we need to bare in mind if we do get a new manager in. With history against us avoiding relegation from the position that we are in at the minute would be a very good achievement.
Suffolk_fox Posted 26 September 2010 Posted 26 September 2010 We have provided more chances than any other team and before Friday's game, our ratio was one goal for every 19 chances, What does that tell you? Will bringing in a new manager improve this? I reckon even if Sir Alex came in, we wouldn't be putting more of these away. Sacking Souza isn't gonna start Fryatt sticking them in.

It tells you that Sousa's training regime is shocking. We didn't score a hatful with Pearson but we didn't have major issues scoring goals - and at times our forwards looked excellent in this league. Sousa is clearly not training the strikers properly and his record at Swansea proves that it's not just our players. It's just one of his numerous failings as manager and the fact that we've not scored first in 8 league games shows we're going nowhere but down. Get him out.
muzzy1981 Posted 26 September 2010 Posted 26 September 2010 When Pearson left, I tried my own bit of playing chariman and scanned the markets for potential replacements. I used a very simple method of going onto wikipedia, looking at where they have been, how long they have managed, what they have won as a manager and importantly their win rate %. Below are the shortlist who I thought could do the job. Alan Cubishely = 40.85% (Kept a small club Charlton in the prem for years) 1991 - 2008 Mark Hughes = 42.04% (Had top 10 finishes with Blackburn in nearly every season at Blackburn, no mean feet!) Also when we were looking for a new manager, Hughes was by no means confirmed yet as Hodgson replacement at Fulham) 1999 - 2010 Tony Mowbray = 44.78% (Fantastic record at WBA, I know he's not that popular but ask WBA fans love him, always a good sign) 2002-2010 And then there is Paulo............. Paulo Sousa = 33.7% (Masively inexperienced, poor win rate percentage, never played in english leagues) 2008 - 2010 IT WAS A MASSIVE PUNT, THIS SHOULD BE A MANDARIC OUT PAGE!!!! I do believe Sousa could be a good manager, possibly even at Leicester but could be V. Risky to wait to find out. He has fantastic experience as a player, but he'd better off heading to europe, to build his trade. Don't blaim the manager blaim the Chairman!!!!
i hate cov Posted 26 September 2010 Posted 26 September 2010 wish that twat mandaric kept pearson in and the defence wouldnt have these problems!

I agree entirely with you, but Mandaric is on his way out anyway. So really the only person to blame is Sousa now. If the stuff about the guy speaking to Birch is true, there's not a moment to lose.
Neil_LCFC Posted 26 September 2010 Posted 26 September 2010 How anyone can really defend Sousa after what has happened so far this season I just don't know. We were a penalty kick from a playoff final & possibly a return to the premiership. Then in a few months of his reign he has turned a promotion chasing team into relegation haunted whipping boys leaking goals for fun. He has dropped King/Hobbs/Wellens/Weale/Fryatt who were the spine of our succesful team picked Oakley & Neilson who could get nowhere near the team during the crucial run in last season. Those who are saying Oakley & Neilson are playing well it shows how much all the other players have dropped there game under Sousa which is down to him to get the best out of them. The foreigners he has signed haven't improved us in the slightest in fact had the opposite effect paying £3m for a striker & playing him wide is pathetic & everyone in the ground can see that. How much longer can you put up with this for whilst he says we played well & showed spirit & he isn't concerned about our position ? Just about anyone could have done a better job with this group of players & mid table would be an absolute minimum requirement after 7 or 8 games. Peter Taylor is widely regarded as the worst City manager ever but even he did well in his first dozen games before starting to dismantle O'Neills team, this clown has got just about every decision wrong from day one of his arrival. I would have sacked him friday night personally & if we don't get 4 points this week hopefully he is history & we can sort this out fast before he makes our best players leave.
Webbo Posted 26 September 2010 Posted 26 September 2010 Sousa's had a pre-season, 3 cup games and 8 league games. If his ideas were starting to come to fruition why haven't we seen any progress? It hasn't helped Sousa that we had such a good season last time. He's changed things that the fans and the players can't see any reason to change. If his changes had improved things then he could have carried the players with him, as it is things have got worse and it looks like change for the sake of change.

fatmando Posted 26 September 2010 Posted 26 September 2010 Not looking forward to Tuesday, I'm outnumbered 10-1 by Norwich fans in my office and can see us getting hammered again. It's probably not all Sousa's fault. The way he was bought in at the last minute and all. Build a house on sand and all that. This doesn't change the fact that we need a big change soon. 5 more games. 3 if he loses the first 3. I'd be happy if we got rid now though.
AndyBurke Posted 26 September 2010 Posted 26 September 2010 And I thought things were bad at hometown club Aldershot - and we've only lost 1 this season! Have to agree though, if we lose Tuesday (or should that be when we lose Tuesday?) Sousa should go otherwise I can see this situation only gettiing worse (if thats possible?) Granted, I dont get to many games being this far down south but something has to be done after Friday.... Oh, and I'd love O'Neill to come back and possibly bring back the glory days.......
Edmund Posted 26 September 2010 Posted 26 September 2010 Any manager who's proud of his players after a 6-1 hammering needs to go. It wouldn't surprise me if he's on a highly paid contract hence why were waiting a little longer.
Howard9 Posted 26 September 2010 Posted 26 September 2010 I wish we could afford to get Martin O'Neil back he'd see us back in to the top flight not this dickless wonder.
somebum Posted 26 September 2010 Posted 26 September 2010 Sousa needs to go, quicktime. If that **** isn't sacked by tuesday we will deserve to go down

It wouldn't surprise me if he's on a highly paid contract hence why were waiting a little longer. what do you expect him to say??? how many bad tackles on tv happen and the manager says it was bad?? they say i didnt see it, or its not in there nature. etc.. a manager is hardly going to slate his own team in front of the cameras.. people already reckon hes lost the dressing room (which still yet hasnt been proved) so what would it do if he wa on tv slagging his players off...

It wouldn't surprise me if he's on a highly paid contract hence why were waiting a little longer. I'm 100% sure that if his English were better he would not have used the word "proud". My feeling was that he wanted to support his players at a bad time, but had no idea what other English word to use.

I'd expect him to be honest and put his hands up and say we were poor. Saying he's proud is a kick in the teeth to each and every one of those fans who travelled on their hard earned cash to watch the game. What's wrong with honesty? The fans would respect him more. Simon Garyson did after their 5-2 defeat to Barnsley. If I remember correctly Pearson wasn't a happy bunny after the drubbing at Forest, he certainly didn't say he was proud. I'd rather have an honest manger than a bullshitter. These are players who are paid thousands a week, I've got no sympathy for any of them if they can't take criticism which they duly deserve. I'm 100% sure that if his English were better he would not have used the word "proud". My feeling was that he wanted to support his players at a bad time, but had no idea what other English word to use. Oh the old lost in translation chestnut. I'm sorry but I don't buy it.
tetly Posted 26 September 2010 Posted 26 September 2010 This silly man has messed the team up in less than 3 months, get rid now before the rot sets in.

It could be language issues...In the sentence "I am proud of my players", if you swapped "proud of" with "called a numpty by most of" I think he would be expressing exactly what happened at FT.....
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 26 September 2010 Posted 26 September 2010 MINUS ELEVEN GOAL DIFFERENCE. About minus 201 by the end of the season if we continue playing like a group of aids ridden ****s
