martyn Posted 7 February 2011 Posted 7 February 2011 He did well on Saturday, but that's the first time for a long time where I could genuinely praise his contribution. Nice time to come on at 3-1 with 25 minutes to go but he did look more energetic than usual and used the ball well. Hopefully he can keep up his level and contribute positively. Abe probably is a little tired but that's hardly a surprise, the amount of work he has to get through in a game is huge and that will take its toll eventually. That's why I was hoping we'd add to the midfield area in January as we are light of quality back up.
Wymsey Posted 7 February 2011 Posted 7 February 2011 Would he replace Abe then as i thought Abe has been quite poor recently?
cc_star Posted 7 February 2011 Posted 7 February 2011 Would he replace Abe then as i thought Abe has been quite poor recently? that's what I said, about 4 or 5 posts up
fatboy Posted 7 February 2011 Posted 7 February 2011 Rob Tanner seems to have a thing for the old guard, Howard, Oakley etc. Turn our minds back to when Oakley was a regular in our midfield, in the holding role. We were bottom of the league after 9 games. Abe may not be playing to his full capability at the moment, but is a much better bet than Oakley. If Oakley starts against Derby, i predict a defeat
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 7 February 2011 Posted 7 February 2011 I am still of the opinion that if we get Bruma in then Bamba will move into the Abe position. I would think that Oakley will only be a bench player from now on.
J.Lisemore Posted 7 February 2011 Posted 7 February 2011 Gradually getting better, which is good to see.
blueredswed Posted 7 February 2011 Posted 7 February 2011 I have just read what Sven is thinking of Oakley and us I understand he gonna be in the start eleven soon! As I have read what you are saying here I thought he was bullish.......scrap..... nothing to have! But after what Sven said at Leicesters homepage he is good. What shall I think about this? Sven is wrong and all managers here knows better or????????????? I will thanks all who read and answer my wiew of Oakley but still wonder to all those says OAKLEY is not good enough for THE BLUE..... where are you? Come on and say what you think! Is he good or is he bad? I don´t know just following since Svennis come to Leicester and I live in Sweden don´t knew anything about this guy but.... LET ME KNOW In :sge: I trust
shailen Posted 7 February 2011 Posted 7 February 2011 On recent form would you start oakley instead of Abe?

LET ME KNOW In :sge: I trust Not exactly sure what you mean, but I'll answer as I think I understand your question, if it is a question A lot of people don't like Oakley because he was Derby captain, a lot of people don't like Oakley because he waved at the Derby fans when they applauded him, a lot of people don't like Oakley because they've got something against Pearson's era and a few people (me included) aren't keen because some of his performances haven't been great. Although some people forgive some of those performances because he's largely been played out of position where he's been ineffective. He has however done really well replacing a sub-par Abe in the past couple of games and really contributed to the team. I think he could be improved on, but he's probably worth a start given that it looks like Abe could do with a rest.
Ross 'LCFC' Turner Posted 7 February 2011 Posted 7 February 2011 oakley has done ok coming of the bench recently but i still think abe is better, abe doesnt offer alot going forward especially compared to king and wellens but i think what he does when we loose the ball or when a player goes on a run is equally important, he sits infront of the back four and offers them alot of protection, if naughton or van annholt go forward he always drops in at either rb or lb, he hasnt been great recently but i also think he is underrated at times and not given enough credit, taking him out would be wrong in my eyes, we lost most of the games at the start of the season with oakley in the side and we lost at swansea and millwall aswell
tomtom Posted 7 February 2011 Posted 7 February 2011 Judging it on the last 2 games I think I'd start Oakley on Saturday instead of Abe,... maybe Abe does need a rest but Oakley played well when he came on at sheffield and on Saturday so deserves to be picked

Now I understand Derby is shit and Oakley have playing for them! But now he is playing for Leicester and think he done that well as I seen (and perhaps also Sven) Thanks again CC looking followed to see Oakley play.....
gazfox9 Posted 7 February 2011 Posted 7 February 2011 I am still of the opinion that if we get Bruma in then Bamba will move into the Abe position. I would think that Oakley will only be a bench player from now on. Thats a pretty good shout. Wasn't he quoted as saying he preferred playing midfield to centre half? I was hoping we might sign another central midfielder during the window as after King, Wellens and Abe, quality wise there isn't a lot else. Maybe Bamba could do the job. I also don't think its any coincidence most of our poorest displays have been when Oakley has been in the side.

Yep could be a different option, i certainly agree Oakley isnt the player he was 2 or 3 seasons ago and now will get no further than the bench IMO
m00nie Posted 7 February 2011 Posted 7 February 2011 . I also don't think its any coincidence most of our poorest displays have been when Oakley has been in the side. as much as i dont rate oakley i dont agree with this..
Thracian Posted 8 February 2011 Posted 8 February 2011 Judging it on the last 2 games I think I'd start Oakley on Saturday instead of Abe,... maybe Abe does need a rest but Oakley played well when he came on at sheffield and on Saturday so deserves to be picked Oakley seems to have benefitted from a rest. Abe, on the other hand, seems to need one. Nothing so unusual about that. Abe might even be feeling some rection to all the adjustments he's had to make in his life - and the fact that he's so far from home. Both are good people to have around. Whether either will get a starting spot as things develop I don't know but I wouldn't write either of them off. Oakley remains a competent player and a popular guy who will never let anyone down. Abe's been good at times, less so at others but I don't think we've seen the best of him yet and might not do until his spends a close season here, assuming he gets the chance.

I also don't think its any coincidence most of our poorest displays have been when Oakley has been in the side. He probably could do a job but I'd be worried about moving him from centre back. Since he's been there he has been organising the whole defence, including Weale. He'll dictate the defence pushing out and keeping the line and also when Weale should and shouldn't come for the ball. Ericsson has referenced how quiet our team is and I think it's imperative that we have an organised defensive line with a leader (Brown last season) to do well. Take Bamba out and you have Mee and Hobbs, neither of which are leaders (yet).
Jimmy Posted 9 February 2011 Posted 9 February 2011 his contract is up this summer IIRC, I'd be very surprised if he's around next season
whitlock Posted 9 February 2011 Posted 9 February 2011 his contract is up this summer IIRC, I'd be very surprised if he's around next season Not too sure with that, Sven seems to bum Oaks a bit!
Tommy G Posted 9 February 2011 Posted 9 February 2011 If steve howard can get a new deal then oakley certainly can!!
Jimmy Posted 9 February 2011 Posted 9 February 2011 Not too sure with that, Sven seems to bum Oaks a bit! how can you say that? he keeps him on the bench but then who else do we have in CM? If steve howard can get a new deal then oakley certainly can!! at the time Howard was 1st choice and playing really well
whitlock Posted 10 February 2011 Posted 10 February 2011 If you've heard recent Sven interviews, Sven saying how well Oaks has been doing in training etc and its hard to keep him on the bench and also how well he's done when he's come on as a sub. Not my words.... But personally I think Oaks is a good professional and would be ideal to have round younger lads with his experience etc. Nice bloke.

ajthefox Posted 12 February 2011 Posted 12 February 2011 I do like Oakley and he did well at sheff utd but today he wasn't good enough for me. Passing was decent but it is a little too light weight I feel, remember him getting muscled out by savage and whoever else they had in midfield a few times.
superfox1980 Posted 12 February 2011 Posted 12 February 2011 Thought Oakley had a good game tonight, he got stuck in far more than Abe has in recent games and used the ball well IMO. I'm not his biggest fan but give credit where credits due. He played well.
