Sven: I won't get screwed again

SVEN GORAN ERIKSSON was hailed as Leicester's new Special One - and immediately flew his new team off to Thailand.

Foxes chief Milan Mandaric handed the former England boss a two-year contract as manager, calling it the biggest event in the club's 125-year history.

And Eriksson started his reign today by flying his new players to Bangkok for a match against the Thai national team on Saturday.

But the Swede, who had his fingers burned over broken promises at Notts County last year, insisted he will not get fooled again.

Mandaric said: "Sven's going be special for this club. It's a landmark moment. Sometime in the future we're going to look back and say this was the right thing to do.

"The club's never had such a high-profile manager. I'm very excited."

Eriksson is Mandaric's EIGHTH boss in three years and takes over after Paulo Sousa was sacked just nine games into his reign.

He has signed a two-year, £1million-a-year deal with the Foxes' new Thai owners, just eight months after walking out of County, having never met the money men.

Eriksson said: "I did more checking here than I did at Notts County because I didn't want it to be like that. If you look at the company they own, then it's obvious the money is there.

"But the owners behind this are real people. I have met them!

"At Notts, I could see after six months it wasn't real - I met representatives, but here it is straight. I'm not frightened, this is a real project.

"They want to get to the Premier League as quickly as possible and they are willing to spend what is needed to reach that target. The money is there to support that idea.

"I think Manchester City worked out very well. The club played good football, with good results, then at end I wasn't wanted and I still don't know why."

£1m a year? I thought he would be on a bit more than that.

To be fair, he's probably still collecting nice payments from his last 4 or 5 jobs. lol

never had such a high profile manager???? i think o'neil is high profile!

Obviously, O'neil is a high profile manager, but Sven, with his extensive history in international and domestic football, must be one of the most recognisable managers in the world.

MON was high profile, of course. The question is, was he high profile at the time he joined the club, or did he become high profile because of his successes with us? Slightly different concepts...

I can't imagine there'd be much argument that at the time of joining the club, Sven is far and away the more high profile manager...

Come on MON was the famous Wigan manager;

Especially considering Al-Hilal were offering £1.5m a year.

Evidently he's here for the football rather than the money, a good sign.

Or he didn't fancy moving to the Middle East lol

£1.5 million a year would have been one hell of a sweetener though. lol

he clearly wasn't on his arrival though was he? just walked out on Norwich and been manager of Wycombe and teams like the mighty Grantham town, hardly high profile!

come the end of his tenure he was up there but still not at the level of Sven

He's here until he can get something bigger and better...or until MM sacks him...

Why else would a manager leave except to retire or die?

Thats Svens Sole purpose for coming here.

Fair enough if a a manger is hungry and motivated to do well.

If he then does do well, he deserves a crack at a bigger club.

I think Olde Svens motivation for coming here isnt to conqure the footballing world with little old Leicester

It could be that the press are just guessing.

Does this mean he's no longer 'Horny Sven'?

They say with age your libido goes a bit so maybe he is less of a horny Sven lol

I hope he is on 1 million a year. All this rubbish the Fulham fns talked about was that Sven wanted 3 million a year but after following Svens career I really think he ever talked money with them. The media in England keep calling him a money grabber. At England he was killed for being on 4.2 million a year from the very start. It took Capello to screw up the World Cup before the media attacked his 6 MILLION a year.

Sven was reported in this country as being on millions at Ivory Coast, but he was paid 300,000 thousand.
