cambridgefox Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 Making racially prejudiced (and completely factually inaccurate to the point of being amazingly stupid) songs is most definitely a "good reason" to criticise your fellow supporters. They're just copying Manchester United because they've seen their supporters singing the same thing about an Asian footballer and have been too fucking retarded to make the distinction. That's actually the bit that offends me the most - if he actually WAS Korean it would still bother me but largely I'd just roll my eyes and ignore it. The fact that he isn't and that there's a MASSIVE cultural difference that people are just blithely ignoring out of sheer ignorance is hugely disrespectful and, yes, completely fucking racist. I wouldnt sing the song either, but Japan did import 5 tonnes of dog meat from China last year for human consumption Dont think Abe ate any of it though!

accessory Posted 24 October 2010 Posted 24 October 2010 The reason why the atmosphere is so flat at the Walkers and other places is because it is no longer a young adults/working class sport. It is now family orientated and many lads who used to go can now no longer afford to go / refuse to pay the exorbitant amounts that it costs to go to a game. Add to this the fact that most of the new stadia do not hold noise in it will never be as it was 20-30 years ago. The Britannia Stadium and Eastlands seemed quite noisy today..
rabbid Posted 25 October 2010 Posted 25 October 2010 It's rather unpleasant to read that some posters think it appropriate to call their own fellow supporters "absolute ******" "utter pricks" "not up for it" etc. and then talk about solidarity for another club's fans. Isn't there some inconsistency when little respect is shown for your own club's supporters. Football is an expensive pastime and if people choose to sit down or not sing or drink from flasks or sit in the West Stand or not jump up and down or not wave flags then that is up to them. I appreciate what marbelladave says since on occasions I have chosen to get a seat with a better view than away supporters get - I prefer a seat at medium height towards the centre line instead of a distorted view in one corner of the ground. Does that make me a bad fan or not a "proper fan"? My predominant reason for going to a match is to watch the football and take pleasure (or not) out of the team's performance. The whole "away day experience" doesn't really interest me. I would rather see my team win than have a day singing and bouncing up and down. That's my personal taste which I am entitled to hold. I support the club by putting money in its coffers at the Walkers Stadium by buying a season ticket and car parking ticket and enjoy the comfort of the First Floor hospitality in the Great Hall/Keith Weller Suite. I'm tired of reading that you can only be a "proper fan" by standing and singing. I did that in my day but time has marched on and I simply can't stand and sing for the whole match. Fans do get older and you can't continue to support the team in the same way as you did in your youth. Just stand back and have some tolerance of how other fans wish to support the club and not take such an arrogant and self righteous stand against supporters who have different views. The Fosse Boys and other supporters can do what they like so long as other supporters are free to support the club in the way that they choose to do.
cambridgefox Posted 25 October 2010 Posted 25 October 2010 Have you been googling japan +"dog meat"? It does throw up some interesting entries. Indeed i have my friend. If only for the small chance that they do eat dog meat(which has been proved now)to say to other posters, its not as bad as you are making out and it is not racist. It is a diet, ive eaten horsemeat and it wouldnt upset me if someone said you British eat horsemeat, and no it didnt give me the TROTS! Im sure they could have sung a song about whales as they were in Swansea,or dont they eat that either!
Guest Bilo Posted 25 October 2010 Posted 25 October 2010 Actually, the Japanese do not eat dog meat. It's unreachable trolling as per usual. The 'interesting entries' throw up pictures accompanied by KOREAN writing. As for the 5 tons of dog meat being imported to Japan, the tiny size of that import is borne out by the fact that the same article on Wikipedia shows that 4,717 tons of beef, 14,340 tons of pork and 115,882 tons of poultry were imported in the same time period. God only knows how much fish and rice were imported, seeing as they form the majority of the Japanese diet. The chances are that the dog meat was intended for the Zainichi Korean ex-pats who live in Japan. Therefore, THE JAPANESE DO NOT EAT DOG. They do eat whale but I very much doubt that the people singing the song about Abe eating Alsatians are even aware of that. It was just a lazy song based on a lazy ethnic stereotype that actually does not hold true.
cambridgefox Posted 25 October 2010 Posted 25 October 2010 Can we expand the internet search to"DO THE JAPANESE EAT HOT DOGS"
Wymsey Posted 25 October 2010 Posted 25 October 2010 What does this exactly got to do with the analysis of this match?
Babylon Posted 25 October 2010 Posted 25 October 2010 What does this exactly got to do with the analysis of this match? Dunno, all I can find are comments on Portsmouth (who played everyone... well everyone gullible), eating alsations and fighting our own fans.
Dr The Singh Posted 25 October 2010 Posted 25 October 2010 Dunno, all I can find are comments on Portsmouth (who played everyone... well everyone gullible), eating alsations and fighting our own fans. :rolleyes:And people say I post aload of shite!!!!
James. Posted 25 October 2010 Posted 25 October 2010 According to Wikipedia in 2008 there were 589,239 Koreans living in Japan. Assuming they all eat dog meat and no Japanese do that would imply each Korean in Japan eats approximately 8.5 grams of dog meat per year (assuming 1 tonne = 1,000,000 grams). This falls to just 5.5 grams per year if you include those that have taken Japanese citizenship. I have no idea what point I'm trying to make, it was just fun working that out.
Babylon Posted 25 October 2010 Posted 25 October 2010 :rolleyes:And people say I post aload of shite!!!! You post a load of shite, so you can add me to the list.
cambridgefox Posted 25 October 2010 Posted 25 October 2010 What does this exactly got to do with the analysis of this match? Cant you see that do they/dont they eat dogs is a far more important topic that should be addressed. If you have nothing to add to this, please move on to another topic.
cambridgefox Posted 25 October 2010 Posted 25 October 2010 This topic has gone to the DOGS! I was at a Japanese zoo and they only had 1 dog.It was a shit zoo(shih tzu)

Finnegan Posted 25 October 2010 Posted 25 October 2010 I feel the need to point out that the Shih Tzu is Chinese.
Babylon Posted 25 October 2010 Posted 25 October 2010 I feel the need to point out that i'm a pedantic git. Your honesty is refreshing.
Bert Posted 25 October 2010 Posted 25 October 2010 Some people are so far up there own arses, and too bothered about trying to do the 'right' thing. The fosse boys weren't 'the only ones singing' on Saturday and that's an insult to the others that were. I wasn't near you lot, but where I was stood, there was a small group of fans also trying to generate a bit of atmosphere. Fair enough you lot probably didn't hear it though. People don't kick up a fuss when a song is sung about scousers or whatever so what's the difference here? Fair enough this song whatever is was, (didn't hear it) was probably bad taste, but I bet these people were only trying to create some atmosphere, which is what most of us all want yeah? I can't fault the fosse boys for what they want to do, and achieve. I enjoy singing and standing and do that how I want to do it. For me it Just seems some sort of snoberry is creeping in. We should all be as one, especially away from home. Are these people that were chanting about another team the same people that had a moan when a few seasons back a number of leicester fans were chanting cheltenham? Have a moan at me, slag me off, criticise my post if you all wish, i've Just had my say on things.

Proven?
Finnegan Posted 25 October 2010 Posted 25 October 2010 Sorry, Bert, I think you're normally a really sensible, pretty reasonable guy and I agree with a lot of your views. But there's a huge difference between ribbing Scousers or Geordies or even banter with the Welsh and actual, real racism. If, purely as example, we had an African player and people were singing songs about Cannibalism then people would be up in arms - quite rightfully - about that being wrong, racist, distasteful, whatever. There seems to be some sort of culture where by it's "okay" to discriminate against some races and I find that really worrying. And it's not just me, Bilo and Fosse Boy being our usual self-righteous, preachy, lefty selves - there are plenty of people who agree. Go and ask Lisa, for example, what she thinks of the song - or Fez or Kokopops. I really hope it fades out and doesn't catch on.
Bert Posted 25 October 2010 Posted 25 October 2010 Yeah finners, that's fair enough mate. Maybe my example that I used wasn't the best. I think some people don't actually realise that some people aren't as well educated as some others. Whilst you, bilo, etc see that as racist, others will see it as being great comedy, and witty. Very sad I know, but that's the way the world is. This isn't a dig at anyone by any means, but I do think some people Just don't realise that not everyone's well educated.

Have a moan at me, slag me off, criticise my post if you all wish, i've Just had my say on things. No I think your points are pretty valid really. As I said in my longer post a couple of pages back, the singers consisted of us and a smattering along the back. I assume you were in that group and I know you aren't the type to sit on your hands during a game but you must admit that the numbers of singers wasn't up to the levels of other games this season. Leeds for instance sounded outstanding and by all accounts it was. I agree with Finnegan that singing songs about an actual ethnic group to pisstaking about Scousers for instance though. As for us being the same people who moaned about Cheltenham, most of us still have a bit of a soft spot for them and loved them at the time as well. I'll stand and sing with Leicester fans all day long, I prefer it that way. I think I speak for most in the Fosse Boys when I say I'd have preferred us to be a near invisible part of 1000 singing on Saturday than the reality. On form we're as loud fans as almost anybody on the road. How many other sets of fans would have been singing as loud as we were when 3-0 down at Palace and playing shit? On some of the Ultra forums even Celtic fans have praised our away support before. That's what made Saturday so frustrating for me, to go from that to merely a few small pockets of fans singing so far apart we couldn't hear one another and a frankly racist song about one of our own players getting an airing is a bit disheartening.

That's a very fair point and a lot of what I'm bemoaning. I know most people will be singing the song out of genuine ignorance and not actual malice - but that's just another part of the problem. Unfortunately, other than word of mouth, I don't really have a solution - hence my preaching.
