martyn Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 I don't think the top order will collapse anything like the Aussies did today. I've heard conflicting reports about the pitch but it sounds as if it is actually quite flat and should improve for batsmen tomorrow. Add to that the fact that the Aussie bowling attack is nowhere near as potent as the English right now and I can see us going 2-0 up. Might be jumping the gun a bit but we look hungry and on form, whereas the Aussies look neither. Yeah, by the sounds of it the groundsmen left more grass on the wicket this time meaning it was both a really important toss to win, and important to then fire out the top order early. Once the ball lost it's shine and some juice went out of the wicket, batting became far easier. Align this with the Perth sun baking down, and England using the heavy roller before the innings and likely tomorrow morning, tomorrow should be set fair for batting after a potentially tricky first hour.
Corky Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 Yep, get through the first hour. That's the most important thing.
Guest ttfn Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 Nice one Colly Colly with a conk on there (spotted by somebody on the Guardian website)
ScouseFox Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 Lovely first day overall, tad disappointing that we couldn't have mopped up the tail quicker, but credit to their lower order, esp. Johnson, for batting well under pressure. Stay calm tomorrow, should bat way past their score
StanSP Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 Colly with a conk on there (spotted by somebody on the Guardian website) I should have made it clear that's what I was on about

Corky Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 Yeah its destroying me !! Working in Edgbaston so get a hours kip on the way in the van but it dont make up for the 4 hours sleep i missed ! I like Perth. You can get up at a sensible-ish hour and still see a third of the day's play
AoWW Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 Is this still going on? Cricket completely baffles me. Are we winning?
StanSP Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 Is this still going on? Cricket completely baffles me. Are we winning? Yes. That's all that matters. Oh and Ponting being miserable. That matters too.
purpleronnie Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 Looks like my bet on the Aussies is having its desired affect.
Fox You Forest Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 I decided to watch it in bed and thought I'd just nod off but every time I tried to get some sleep a wicket fell so I was hooked for another few overs, finally got about three hours kip, thank **** Haddin and Hussey managed to put some kind of partnership together to allow me to finally nod off.
Daggers Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 I decided to watch gay porn in bed and thought I'd just nod off afters but every time I tried to flog one off the wrist a wicket fell so I was hooked for another few overs, finally got about three hours kip, thank **** Haddin and Hussey managed to put some kind of partnership together arousing me enough to allow me to finally nod off. You and your kind make me puke.
FoxyPV Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 England get bowled out for 300 and then Watto and Hughes put on at least 50 before play finishes and we've a game on our hands.
Jackirius Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 England get bowled out for 300 and then Watto and Hughes put on at least 50 before play finishes and we've a game on our hands. I hope we get 600-3 and the aussies slug out for 2 days for 160 all out of 180 overs.
Fox You Forest Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 the aussies slug out for 2 days for 160 all out of 180 overs. Be well worth staying up to watch that. I reckon batting for two full days you'd get close to 160 just from edges down to third man.
James. Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 Fantastic cricket today. Johnson's spell was ridiculous cutting through the top order. Hostile bowling from all the Aussies, fair play to them, I wasn't expecting the ball to do as much as it has. But now Bell is playing masterfully. Just needs to keep the strike as Swann is getting beaten by pretty much every ball.
FoxyPV Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 Just got up to watch the last couple of hours. What a treat to wake up to!! I can't wait to watch the highlights later. Bye Bye Bell - Harris gets the important wicket. Well done Johnson. Excellent ball to get Tremlett out and a 6for to boot. England finish 81 behind.
James. Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 No doubt we have our work cut out but the ball is still moving around and the Aussie batsmen just don't look comfortable out there. If we can get 3 wickets before close of play then we're still very much in it. That 81 run margin after the 1st innings is annoying though.
surrifox Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 they were bound to win another day at some stage - the selectors did well to re-select Mitchell who on his day has the potential to be their best bowler. Lets hope they also persevere with Hughes and Smith who look embarassingly short of ability
FoxyPV Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 Ponting's gone AGAIN!!! ****sake Punter - what's going wrong?!
James. Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 GET IN!! Ponting fails again. After an absolute shcoker of a first over from Finn, he's stepped up with some quality bowling. COME ON.
purpleronnie Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 The equivalent to 123-2, very strong position, they can't lose this one.
Daggers Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 GET IN!! Ponting fails again. After an absolute shcoker of a first over from Finn, he's stepped up with some quality bowling. COME ON. Shame he didn't have the decency to walk.
